The canal was not abandoned. Rather it was rerouted and merged with the state wide barge canal system. The historic park that you rode on is a well traveled and well kept state park.

Hello Marylin, yes, that's a much better way of putting it. Sections were abandoned for better routes that more closely matched the needs of today, but the state seems to have done well to keep these sections relevant to us tourists and history buffs.

Each episode becomes a new favorite! This one especially so. The architecture of Syracuse was incredible. Add in the fall color...wow!! And yes, Julianna, we care! = ) One of the things I've loved about this series is that you're "real" about the highs and lows. Hoping your adrenal fatigue has now resolved. The anticipation each week reminds me of television the way it used to be...you waited from week to week to see your favorite show!

Yeah, that's kind of the way we view the experience. It's what drives us, the adventure, the wonderment. Not knowing what's going to happen next. Isn't that what life is all about?

We loved Syracuse. And it was a real sleeper...We'd never heard anything to suggest what a cool city it was, which made it all the more amazing.

Thank you Roland for sharing your trip across America!! I work on the trail coming out of Cincinnati. We loved your comments about our trail and your evening at Washington Park. Our Friends group would love to send you two t-shirts. Find us at FLMSP- South Maintenance. Hope you are recovering.

I really appreciate the authenticity of what you share…trials and tribulations. Although a year later I hope Julianna’s adrenal fatigue is healed. As a nutritionist I see this often, and have dealt with myself. Various nutrients, botanicals, and of course rest are supportive. This section was so beautiful! Closer and closer! We love our Friday nights with you! 😊

Well, Julianna got surgery on her hand when we got home which put her on the couch watching daytime television. She's way more rested than she ever wanted to be. Thanks for your comments, so glad we help make Fridays enjoyable!

I love this especially because these are some of my regular riding trails. I am formerly from the Syracuse area (Camillus), and now in Clyde, NY as You no doubt pedaled through Clyde the day before. I need to check out Your previous episodes. I biked the Erie Canal Buffalo to Albany 2x 2015 and 2016. Love Your story and the videography with the narration is simply amazing!!!! You are both bicycle RockStars! D

Damn! The Art Nouveau on the Mohawk building is spectacular. Another great video. Have never been to New York, but clearly need to visit.

Thanks for the comment! We found the architecture in all these older Northeast cities to be spectacular. The Mohawk is exceptional. There's a lot to love in these forgotten metropolises.

Another good one folks. Just returned home from 400+kms of riding inspired by you folks. So much of what you are doing gets the rest of us motivated. We rode, then used out trailer as a motel, then rode again, then abandoned it for a night while to headed out to a further destination where we moteled, in one of those places you favor - you the kind where where is barely room for two beds and two bikes and a cracked sink etc. Then home to pick and start breaking in a new bike. Cheers

Wow! That just made our day! There's really nothing like this kind of traveling, and if we have much of any point in making all these, its to share our excitement and hope some of that rubs off. Thanks again. So where did you ride?

@@TheBicycleTourists You tube did not like my first response! We were in Calgary Alta to visit my son and new grand daughter so rode there, then went to Banff AB and rode several trails including the nice trail to Canmore. Then off to the Kootenays to ride out and back on the trail from Fairmont Hot Spring to Invermere - 70km return (and on the trail met a fellow I knew from our white-water rafting guide days of 40 years ago!). Then over to the Okanagan area of B.C. where we parked our trailer and rode to from Vernon to Kelowna. Great trail except where the trail is incomplete and we had to ride the freeway for 7 km and then make a desperate crossover of 4 lanes. My octogenarian legs just make it. We overnighted there in one of you folks favorite type of motel - you know - the ones with barely room for 2 bikes and 2 people and a cracked sink and weak coffee. But it was grand. Back to Vernon the next day and then home. 400 kms in about 10 days with about 6 ride days. Now to break in my new Orbea bike! Great rides and great food.

Don't know why you didn't want to talk about the adrenal fatigue, I have problems with it even on short trips of 800 miles or so. The body can only go at maximum for so long. I think its great that you mentioned it as I don't think most recreational cyclist really know or think about it but wonder why they are geeing weaker and not stronger as they ride day after day. That's why when long distance backpacking we take zero days every so often, got to let the body re-coop. I'd give anything to be where you are right now. This is why I like your video, It's real life with real people, not the hot shot pros.
@TheBicycleTourists
@TheBicycleTourists 2 жыл бұрын
First, 800 miles isn't close to short. Second, whadya mean we ain't hot shot pros? :-) But, yeah, it does wear on you. Still, when you look at Julianna in these, as tired as she might be, she's happy. Really happy. So I guess it balances out.

If it were not for Mexican restaurants in America I wouldn't eat. Just not enough Greek salad places any more.

Yep, I just never get tired of Mexican cuisine! And it's nearly everywhere. Although as we went further east, Italian seemed to be more the staple in those small towns. Also always a great choice!
