You always bring interesting places for us to see. I’d never heard of this place before. I love art deco decor and this is exquisite. Of course I love the original parts as well. Thanks for showing.

Well once again, I have learned of a beautiful grand gem I never knew about! This gorgeous palace is so unique. It is hard to believe this is still London. This palace is different in its exterior design from other palaces in England. The stone and brick work are artistic looking and the footing as well. So I agree with you, Steve, in that I was not expecting a full-on Art Deco design interior. Although Art Deco has it places (like New York City), I certainly do not associate it with a mid evil palace. I do think it is out of place. I am not a big fan of it, but it is interesting in the right setting. Now the gardens and the moat and the grounds are absolutely majestic. Love those wonderful English tree lines. Beautiful side where the moat is holding water and the glorious Weeping Willow stands proudly on its own grassy island. I will say it yet again - England is the most beautiful country in the entire world! I can imaging walking around these grounds and gardens. I am happy you crossed the old bridge - I would have. Appreciate the history of the palace going though the many hand-offs of English monarchy. The Tudor Christmas celebrations must have been so beautifully festive. And after that I can see where the 500 plus acres were fabulous hunting grounds back in the day. I was impressed to see the Lemur (I almost typed Racoon!) having his own latter to run through the palace. Such fun. Truly enjoyed this as well as all the great musical pieces. Blessings.

So funny Luana, one of thiose tucked away places that not many know about :) Yes that bridge across the moat had to be crossed, too tempting otherwise :) Yes just felt funny something so old then with art deco and agree in the right place, love to see and appreciated it. A different place but with a great hall and outside to totally love :)

This is a fantastic blog on a rather unknown palace. Being an architectural designer , the Art Deco /Moderne interiors, especially the entrance hall and dining room, look very similar in style to the interiors of the RMS Queen Mary ! Both having Beautifully preserved examples...

I have loved to see the orginal palace as it must have been stunning. I am a big fan of art deco,i should have been born in the 1920s, but it just isn't right. The designs on the walls are very nice and there is some great furniture but it just isn't right. The grounds are amazing and the borders are something else. I also love the old walls. When i was a lot younger my family used to visit old houses like this with the flowers and walls and i always wanted one. I would have felt safe having a moat. I think if i went here I would enjoy the outside more than the inside.

Lesley, there is something comforting about knowing a deep moat is keeping your Palace safe! The gardens are just incredible and had to be my favourite part of the walk around :)

there is a lift inside the house for disabled visitors .... staff or volunteers will assist visitors with access to that .... some of the grounds are accessible for wheelchair users but as with all historic properties, it can be uneven in places

Midievil next to contemporary looks trashy. Best to do best to restore then to remodel in such structures. In my humble opinion.
