the real question is whether Jen went via the only Acton station in the north on her way back from this trip to London (specifically Acton bridge)

Excellent stuff, Jen - you must have a good mic as I couldn’t hear much wind noise at all. I’ve never been further west on the central line than Shepherd’s Bush so it’s good to see the 74 different Actons!

7:00 I was able to take a tour of BBC TC in like 2004. It was neat! Fun fact: I nearly got run over by Amy Lee of Evanescence who was on TOTP that week lol. She was running out of a studio and well…I was on the other side of that door lol.

i like Ealing Broadway for its connections & ive used that station loads of times & ive used East Acton a few times & i love White city & Holland Park which are both lovely stations on the Central line & def agree its better to spend a day on the underground in the winter than in the summer as it gets too hot in the summer in the tunnels awesome video

When you were walking from White City to Shepherd's Bush, the Football Types you encountered were probably going to Loftus Road to see QPR play. The ground is only a 5 to 10 minute walk away down South Africa Road.

Well you be surprised that the Central Line is still struggling and needs a massive upgrade. Including new tube trains, stations that aren’t step-free to be upgraded to be step-free and better improved services. I do like the Central Line and my Nan used to take me on the Central Line into Central Line as she lives in Hainault.

I incorporate ACTON as one of my quiz night questions... which town in the U.K. is the only one that has an South, East, North and West station, plus another two stations bearing the name of the the town..... I could also add and also has a station some way off also bearing the name (Acton Bridge) Glad you've done a vid on them, just to prove the validity of my question!

The heat of the central line has it's advantages. When I was a uni student 20 -odd years ago, I did a load of washing the day before uni and the next morning it was still damp. I had to put damp clothes on! An hour or so on the central line from Bethnal green to Ealing Broadway however, dried them nicely and took the edge off the heat too. Great video as always, Thanks Carl

the hotel just above North Acton is a good choice for near London. Amazingly quiet even though right above the tracks. But you are largely stuck with only one line option for easy return in the evening. It was a miscalculation on my part. Was lucky to attend a taping of QI last year when I was there. It is amazing what lurks behind the walls of the television center.

The step discrepency is often a single staircase may have x number of steps, (and thus counted as an effective continuos run) to a short mezzanine where further staircase takes you to the ticket hall, having y number of steps, some signs count the x+y.

At North Acton, you would have seen the remains of the Great Western main line from Paddington to Birmingham Snow Hill. A couple of years ago with a couple of friends, I tried to recreate that journey using the parallel Central Line from South Ruislip to North Acton but then had to backtrack to Greenford to do a diversion via West Ealing. A thought for a future video?

The car problem from Shepherds Bush via White City to the A40 and Acton.Willesden land is caused by one set of newish traffic lights into the BBC studio extention (site of White City Stadium) and the A40/M40 traffic lights , they each let about two vehicles move north. Time it right early mornings and its not too bad , but does seem worse since Westfield came into play , sundays are now no-go

Cat! And yes I well remember Live & Kicking, and Going Live before that. And yes I can't understand why anyone would want to drive in London when the public transport is so good The London Underground is a delightful mix of Victorian Grandeur, quaint branch line stations, 1920s art deco and ultra modernism.

Wow Ealing Broadway station has changed. Thats massively different to when I used to work there only 5 years ago. Edit: the middle platform at North Acton (and White City) is used to terminate a number of services per hour (used to be 3 each) to keep up frequencies through the central section.

Guessing you were at White City around 10am for services terminating there from the West to head into the depot underneath the Westfield centre. The lines are the wrong way there because the original terminus used to have an underground turnback loop.

@doughunt9621

The line used to only have two platforms, the two southernmost tracks. Beside the Central Line on the north side was a line built by the GWR to link the main track from Old Oak Common towards Greenford, the junction was just east of the Central Line junction. The reason was to provide a route for milk traffic to a dairy near White City. So through North Acton there were 2 Central Line tracks, then 2 tracks for milk traffic, then 2 lines for Birmingham to Paddington traffic. By the time I used the line from 1964 to 1971the milk traffic had ceased and the two lines from North Acton to White City were disused. Eventually the lines were lifted, allowing the third Central Line track to be laid. The cenral platform is now mainly used for terminating trains in either direction.
