Discovering Mrauk U in Myanmar

Unknown by the tourists due to the difficulty of access, Mrauk U is a charming place where Arakane Kingdom has settled fo hundreds of years.
To reach it, there's one bus per day from Yangon leaving at 8h30 and the journey takes between 22-30h.

In Mog language Mrohong/mrung means Tipra or Tripura. Tripura/Tipra is an ancient Tribe in Indian sub-continent. I am Tayel Tripura, from Tripura state, North East India.

I plan to visit this place in February 2018. Is it still safe for tourist to visit this place?

Hi Indi, I was there end of May...I was actually lucky with the weather. February should be a good time to visit. The most unsafe thing was the bus journey. the road is in a shitty state and the only one bus a day is in bad conditions. The journey can last from 24 to 30 hours. I had to pass two checkpoints. They were worried if I was a journalist because of the Rohingya situation. Mrauk U is still kinda far from the border where the situation is tense and unsafe.

Shel It was like being transported to another dimension! No tourists at all! I was the only foreigner almost! I definitely recommend you to go before it get devastated by mass tourism like Bagan! :)
