'Dopiero tu, w Lublinie, czuję, że jestem w Polsce.' /Józef Piłsudski, 1915/ 'Lublin, miasto bardzo stare, Z wielkich sejmów niegdyś sławne, Ma wspomnienia wielkopomne I pamiątki starodawne. ' /Artur Oppman, 'Abecadło Polskich Dzieci w Krajobrazach (L)'/ You came Nynke to one of the most beautiful cities in Poland, a city with an extremely rich history, full of wonderful monuments. The city is also the capital of the beautiful Province of Lublin, an extraordinary region of Poland, full of charming towns and villages. Kazimierz Dolny and Puławy, which you will see soon, are just two examples of such towns, but there are many more. I join all the commentators who recommended you to visit Zamość - this small town is a must see, you will be delighted with the market square, town hall and beautifully preserved historic tenement houses. And did you know that the Lublin region is also a land full of historic beautifully preserved palaces? In the times of old Poland they belonged to the largest Polish aristocratic families, hence their names: the Lubomirski Palace in Lublin, the Ogiński Palace in Siedlce, the Czartoryski Palace in Puławy, the Zamoyski Palace in Kozłówka, the Sanguszko Palace in Lubartów, the Jabłonowski Palace in Kock ... these palaces and the places where they are located are worth visiting. However, I would advise you to postpone visiting these places until your friend from the Netherlands joins you and you have a camper at your disposal. Meanwhile, I wish you pleasant sightseeing of Lublin, Puławy and Kazimierz Dolny. Uściski! 🥰🤗

Oh, one more, Nynke 😊 you talk about Lublin being the place for artists and writers. One of the most important literary works connected to Lublin is the “Magician of Lublin”, by the Noble Prize winner Isaac Bashevis Singer. Very good book, recommended! Also, as you are in the city, hope you noticed the mentions of the Union of Lublin between Poland and Lithuania, an event that was crucial for all Poland, Lithuania and what was to become Belarus and Ukraine. It’s basically the moment when a multicultural parliamentary monarchy of Poland and Lithuania became a key player in Europe for a long time. In today’s troubled time it’s only the more relevant and important to understand the current events.

@@pamelajaye this smiley has been with me since 2010 :) The Commonwealth of Poland and Lithuania, at its peak one of the largest and most important states in Europe was formed due to the Union of Lublin in 1569 and collapsed in 1795. It encompassed the lands of today's Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Slovakia and even parts of Russia. Had its ups and downs, but generally it was a unique setup with elected monarch and relative religious freedom (80% of the world Jews can trace their roots to the Commonwealth, which number dates back to that time of tolerance). It then fell into political disrepair, too much catholic dominance and hungry neighbours, but its legacy is now being revived, as it has been overshadowed by the Russian dominance in the last 200 years.

15:20 Dzień dobry Nynke! 🌹Ten "little guy" jak go nazywasz 😂to drugi Koziołek o imieniu Kazik. Został on umieszczony 29 stycznia na schodach przed lubelskim Ratuszem. Powstał on na cześć zmarłego w 2019 r. (Eng) This "little guy" as you call him 😂is another goat named Kazik. The figure was placed at the Krakowska Gate. It is an initiative of the Lublin Koziołki Foundation, which decided to create a trail by placing similar figures near the most interesting places in the city. Kazik, named after Casimir the Great, holds a spirit level and a key. The spirit level symbolizes that the Krakowska Gate is tilted about 70 cm from the vertical. The key, on the other hand, is to refer to Mr. Lutowski, who lived in the Krakowska Gate in ancient times and was supposed to wind up the clocks. However, these were always late. The first goat is Onufry. It was placed on January 29 on the stairs in front of the Lublin City Hall. It was created in honour of Onufry Koszarny, a city trumpeter who died in 2019, who for 20 years played the bugle-call of Lublin from the balcony of the town hall. More goats are planned. A billy goat will appear in front of the Crown Tribunal, a billy goat with a theatrical mask next to the Stary Theater, a goat fishing in the Fish Gate, and a goat with a candle next to the Half-Round Tower, as a symbol of many years of candle production in this place.

Lublin is a tourist trap. People go there and walk around Krakowskie Przedmieście, Lithuanian Square, the Cracow Gate, the Old Town, and the Castle. That is like 1% of Lublin. You at least walked from the train station through the Ludowy Park. And the best way to get from Lublin to Kazimierz is via the red cycling trail which bypasses main roads. There are many loess ravines around Kazimierz that can be traversed on a bike, although it involves some steep climbs.
