Thanks for the visit, I didn't know this château was partially rebuilt and having medieval like furnitures. Btw, this place was the scenery of "The Ninth Gate" in 1999 with Johnny Depp.

Never went inside this castle, just viewed it from it the outside. Nice to see a video of the interior. The donjon is very interesting Also love it when the items on display are a bit random and tatty, like that suit of armour with the blue coat, ha ha.

Haha, yeah they added some random bits and bobs to give it more of a medieval lived in vibe, but it works 😁

Thanks so much haha, it's the region that is just so full of these amazing places and we just happen to be travelling in the area 😁. About the round-up video, we'll give it a think over, however we always did do a review at the end of 2022 and you could also follow all the castle scores in this Excel to have an overview of what would statistically be our favourites: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WiOxhEzTCJ4-JJHjU0ufp7DvG4O6J4gDu4_O6sGxpfE/edit?usp=drivesdk

Loved this from the get go - the ruined castle of Puivert is incredible. Love how it stands over the hillside. Incredible to see the portcullis still, and the overview of the castle is epic, it would have been very grand back in its day i'm sure. Ahh, we really want to come over and visit all these beautiful places you've been highlighting, thank you for inspiring us with another epic video!

That's an impressive and well kept castle for its age. Great architecture everywhere you look, including in the chapel and the arched ceiling. Very nice! Enjoyed the musician's room as well. (As musicians, we biased. LOL! Speaking of that, how is your music/playing coming along, Dries?)

@@TheHistoryHikers these two videos are unlisted on our band's channel (someone recorded them from the front row and sent them to us) but they are from an event we played in February at a small church 40 minutes from us. (There was a developmentally disabled young man sitting near the person who recorded this and he was really getting into the music!) The first one is an original song and the second is a cover. Neither one picks up my bass well (poor mic on whatever camera was used) but you'll get an idea what we sound like currently. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZ3ZoJ2NebuHi6s kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2G8homohNGJirM

Love this one. ❤ I will be in the region for a day the next week. If you could only visit 2-3 castles with children which would you recommend ?
@TheHistoryHikers
@TheHistoryHikers Жыл бұрын
Difficult question! Puivert is definitely a good option. Most castles are a lot of climbing, but Queribus was stairs so that's easier for kids I think. The last one we'd suggest Peyrepertuse, the hike up there can be a bit tricky though not too steep, but it's a great castle to visit. Pay attention on some of the stairs which can be slippery. I (Dries) visited as a little kid myself back in the day and that went fine. We have video's on those castles as well if you want to judge the hike or the castle yourself!

6:15 (around there) that room would have been plastered and painted back in the day, right?
@TheHistoryHikers
@TheHistoryHikers Жыл бұрын
Though we don't have it in writing our gut feeling does say it would have done like most churches back then. Another possibility is that the walls were all covered with tapestries

Did they use plaster on the interior walls and did it stop at the stone busts of the musicians?
@TheHistoryHikers
@TheHistoryHikers Жыл бұрын
Don't exactly remember if they used plaster here. I believe in this case they rather used tapestries (more lavish than seen in the video) to make the room prettier and provide better accoustics. Churches did often get plastered and painted in the Middle Ages and we do have some examples of that on the channel, most famously the cathedral in Albi.

7:57 what are those prints? I thought they were dog....are they original to the castle?
@TheHistoryHikers
@TheHistoryHikers Жыл бұрын
They do seem like they're from a dog. We can't really say when the prints were made, but the stone they were in seemed very old indeed, so could be medieval or something? 😅
