Why does no one ever mention that this is the perfect example of how to do density right? I don't think most people fully appreciate what this really is. It is so much more than an oddity!

Nowadays it’s all about fast. Why spend time building something nice and functional? No one gives a $h1t what we want. It’s about what they want (in their own pockets).

It is an intriguing architecture. The 1st time I saw Habitat '67 was in the 80's: I was at île Sainte-Hélène and I saw this construction from afar that immediately caught my attention because I wondered what it was. My first thought was it looked like a bunch of boxes sitting on top of each other.

Surprised to hear some people say that it’s an eyesore... I think it’s beautiful. And based on what I saw of the inside of the units I’d live there in a second. Multiple views, lots of light and having an actual solarium would be so great... and you’re right beside the water too! Reminds me of some of the “space age” architecture that I saw in the Netherlands while touring Rotterdam.

I thought the wry visual commentary at the end, where the driver who hates Habitat 67 is driving by it, saying “I wish I could unsee it,” and once he’s passed the complex, he looks ahead and says “Ahhh, that’s better” - so the camera silently pans to show us what the driver’s now looking at… and it’s slab after slab of identical drab featureless monoliths, with neither beauty nor character, lol. That’s what the driver thinks is “better,” a world where everyone lives in identically anodyne office buildings. Amazing, what dull horror we brainwash ourselves into accepting is the norm.

I grew up in Latin America surrounded by many brutalist structures, as well as living in a brutalist-lite building - a brutalist-echoing or brutalist-inspired building, your might say, today surprisingly designated a national landmark - and that may partly inspire my immense fondness for well-expressed brutalist architecture. Plus it’s pretty practical near the equator: all those concrete breezeways provide ventilation, while the overhangs provide shade, and using poured concrete to quickly and cheaply house the flow of poor rural people suddenly flooding cities is far better than abandoning them to build shantytowns for themselves with cinderblocks and corrugated metal. Yay brutalist architecture! 🤘

Once again, you have gone above and beyond to amaze us. When I was younger I was selected for Canada World Youth and before sending us on this great adventure we all went for a few weeks to the old Labyrinth which adjoined Habitat 67. (Now it's a huge condo tower with a giant greenhouse) We often went to the convenience store that was in the Habitat because there are more amenities for these residents, you must have seen it during your visit. You did a great job as always.

It's one of the most beautiful structures I've ever seen. I would say if they maybe did a little sandblasting and other little touchups, it would be splendid looking. It looks a little "cellblock" (ish) now, but if they cleaned it up and maybe even repainted it or whatever… It would be amazing and wonderful!

The function of the building is amazing. Each unit has views and solariums and access to nature. The form looks hideous with it's grey concrete. It reminds me of east block Russian buildings that have no style to their exteriors. The boxes also remind me of shipping containers as poor houses in some sci-fi movies. @@machupikachu1085 if you want to design entire cities, you can look at smart cities that have already been created or be more ambitious with cities seen in The Venus Project. As they point out, the dome is a superior shape for a home... it's tornado proof, earthquake proof, fire proof... I recall one story on the news of a forest that burnt down, dozens of homes gone but one dome home stood amongst a field burnt to blackened ash. Such designs are rather simple but intelligence and science is the culture of it that'll be more beneficial for humans to live happily. A handicapped person can't even live in these block homes and they look like they'll just collapse in due time from an earthquake.
@RavenousFallen

@@machupikachu1085 in the future, cities will need to be designed to be more human forward... without reliance on vehicles, protecting the environment so it may be best to simply keep humanity away from nature and let it flourish once again.
