I’m sure everyone has already told you but those are entirely to close to your building. My dad planted a peach tree too close to the house years ago and the roots went under the house and now we have a tree growing up right in between the house and patio foundation. I would pull them up and move them ASAP if I were you. Just my humble opinion. Good luck!! You’ll have a beautiful orchard in a few years God willing!!❤️

I hope you don’t regret having those fruit trees so close to the building. We have pear and apple trees close to our house and I hate it because there is apple and pears on the ground constantly, no matter how much you pick them up. Plus they attract bees galore. I wish they were now further away.
@patpearson63582 жыл бұрын
That is so true. My parents had a cherry and pear tree. I remember sitting on the ground eating them until I was sick to my stomach when I was a kid. But the cherries were edible in Spring and the pears in Fall. So, we were pretty much supplied with fruit most of the year.

Good morning! I’m so happy your building an orchard. My husband was a Tree Transplanting Specialist for 40 years. That was our business . A few tips for you. 1) tarp your trees when driving. They can get Leaf Burn. This will cause the leaves to drop off and make you think the tree died. Protect those leaves. 2) Mulch your new trees. The mulch should look like a donut around the tree. NO mulch against the trunk. Leave 8-10 inches around the trunk bare. This will stop disease and help hold moisture in. 3) water your trees at the drip line, not on the trunk. Put the hose on a slow trickle and just lay it there. Most new trees need 1-2 inches of water per week. 4) Put in some liquid Root Starter. Follow the directions on the bottle. It Must be mixed with water. This will greatly help your roots start new growth. In your area: This year every 2 weeks this year for about 6 weeks then once a month. For a year. Then switch to a recommended fertilizer for your fruit trees. Less is more. 5) Keep your trees well pruned. They will actually produce more fruit. I hope this helps! Keep the babies off the trees! 😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️ Enjoy!

As many others have stated, the fruit trees being so close to the garage will definitely draw bees! We had a peach & pear tree very close to our patio when I was a kid & the bees were horrible. I got stung countless times (ouch lol). Plus, moving them farther away might keep ole Tilly away 😂.

You should not plant trees so close to buildings. They can damage your foundation due to roots, clog gutters with leaves, etc., and branches can damage the building as well.
@patelk36482 жыл бұрын
When planting into the ground from pots i was always told to half fill the hole with water...leave it to be absorbed .then insert the plant. The wet hole makes it easier for the roots to begin spreading. It always seemed to work too.

I love the orchard idea! Just a word of caution, fruit trees bring lots of unwanted visitors. You will have animals at night coming to eat them and that is close proximity to the ostrich's and goats. You'll also have lots of birds and bees and since a few of the trees are close to your patio area and roll up doors, you could have some problems. Maybe plant them in 2 long rows on the bluff by the trailhead that goes to the river. That way you can still easily access them, but they're further away from your babies and the bees and birds won't disturb you as much. I'm not trying to burst your bubble, just giving you an FYI. Love all your videos!❤

The goats are going to destroy those fruit trees, you know how they love to forage, it's just their instinct. I'm afraid you will regret the orchard being so close to the shop. The fig trees definitely need to be much farther away from the other trees and especially the entrance to the shop as they tend to be very bushy and difficult to mow around or see around if by a door. Our fig trees are 15 - 16 feet around and about 6-7 ft high. We are cautious about snakes around the bottom as it is generally a cool shaded/dark area they like. 👀🐍 Jason knows all about figs as he's grown them for years. There will be birds, bees, squirrels, snakes etc galore as you are creating a buffet. Watch for bee hives nearby.🐝🐝🐝 Luckily you have a beekeeper in the family. The grapes 🍇 (raisins) and apple seeds are poisonous to the dogs🐕; Be very careful with those. Your azaleas are also poisonous to your dogs and cats and maybe the others. If you have any oleander bushes, they are as well even to humans. I know the previous owners loved flowers. Depending on the type of 🍐 tree, some like Bradford have very stinky blooms. 😵💫

I agree. Jami needs to fence around the trees or Tillie's gonna destroy them, especially during this early time of planting them. Love your orchard! What a great thing. Growing up, we had a wild plum tree on the property that my parents built on. I loved those plums! They were the size of cherries and made the best jelly. We did discover one draw back to having plumbs.... Come fall, when the fruit was ripe and we couldn't pick it fast enough, leaving the ground covered with ripe plums... I came home from school one day to find the front lawn covered with dead birds! And our collie dog unconscious on the front steps! I called my mom, she got the dog to the vets and about the time she got home... the birds all woke up and flew away, they didn't fly in their usual graceful manner.... clumsily, flying away. Vet's diagnosis... our dog was drunk... the birds were drunk. Yep, our yard was the neighborhood animal tavern. And with in a few weeks, ewwww.... the smell of fermented plums. It was an annual event... dog gets her drunk on, birds party till they pass out, and us kids had to keep things raked up so we didn't stink up the place with our booze tree.

Loved the pups trying to help Lester dig. Be careful with the grapes and avocados. I remember my vets telling me about certain fruits being toxic to my horses and dogs. Grapes and avocados. I think goats aren't suppose to have any part of an avocado. Your orchard is going to be beautiful.

@@jenniferthomas2441 It's the persin in the avocados. It's in the pits as well. Dogs tend to chew and swallow things. Jami , any plant or tree you put in the ground needs water in the hole on the roots before you back fill the dirt. Also glad your putting in some soil amenities. You need to make the hole larger so you can mix in potting soil and I add peat moss so the clay doesn't strangle it. Then put the tree in a let water fill the hole as it absorbs the water back fill with your dirt mix. (And fertilizer) As you top the hole off. You are going to have to fence those tender barks from the animals. I would go 4x4. May seem like overkill but they will get large fast. Also Fig trees can get pretty large and bushy....like 15 feet both ways. Even though Tilly broke your fig, chances are it may grow. Dampen the end and stick it in hormone growth powder (any lawn store will have this.) Then plant the twig . I would spread these out....like maybe by Lester's garage. Once all those fruit trees start dropping fruit you are going to be bombarded by flies and wasp. Good luck.

Jami, I'm so happy for you! I know that you've been wanting to do this and you can hear the excitement in your voice. We all know that Tilly wrecked them and did become a goat for a few days. I hope that all of them survived after Lester replanted them. I got a good laugh when Fiona almost flipped over Milly. Good luck on getting rid of the Wisteria because that is one tough plant. You may want to research how to get rid of it permanently. There's gotta be some way!

I used to have a plum tree at home growing up. They grow really big. Like use a step ladder to reach the plums. You want it further away from the building so you don’t have to remove as it grows. And you can get caterpillars galore and webs on them.

Fiona is helping you Lester. Ohoh, grape vines? 🍇 those ostriches will love that!! I have a plum tree, it takes 3years to give fruit ( mine hasn't yet) but it shot runners all over. I will have to go to town pruning it this fall

Jami, You are right on the Fig "tree/bushes" they do grow vertical quite slowly but also round quicker and are 'usually' more difficult to mow under during 'growth years' 3 - 5 before & after they become much more manageable especially IF you cull the lower limbs as I am certain Jason will do. THAT being said, IF your growing the tree specifically for the fruit, then you will NOT want to cull the lower limbs due to them being so loaded down w/fruit and you can begin picking them, after this blazing hot summer, I bet figs were ready by mid August there in TX IF the trees received plenty of watering ie; private and/or a 'farm' You will LOVE your fruit trees!! But will regret not putting down tarping & either cedar chips or gravel as Jason & Brooke have done. That virtually eliminates bugs, worms, cuts way back on birds [ along w/your fencing ] no mowing, no weed eating, easier watering, much easier to dress up & decorate seasonally, picking fruit, etc, etc...

Tickle my tree, hahaha love it, so funny. Just thinking that maybe you might have been better building your fence first especially with miss Tillie, she's so cheeky, love the way she looks at you with that sly little smile on her face 🤣🤣🤣

Fiona can do a head stand!!! That was funny. The dogs enjoyed digging a bit to much. Now what do ya bet you will come back and find holes everywhere.

Good morning Jami and Lester. Hope you have great success in your orchard trees and the helpers that you had will leave them alone. The item found in the ground did look like a grinder for use in the olden days. I would have put it back too. Millie and Fiona were so cute trying to help dig the hole with you both. See you later on Timeout Tuesday. HAGD.

I just found out how to get larger grapes (I have tiny wild grapes). Cut the bottom half of the grape bunch off and the remaining top half will grow larger. Unfortunately, the drought this summer killed all of my grapes but the vines are still doing great. A little too great. Don't pull out your wisteria, put a protective (but beautiful) fence around it. The bush can be thinned to encourage it to grow taller. The flowers hanging down are incredibly beautiful. Water the holes before you plant the trees!!! You need to get the water down deep to encourage to roots to grow down. That will make the tree stronger against strong winds.

Dogs usually love the smell of fresh dug dirt and potting soil. Tilly thinks they're for sharpening her horns.

I agree about the wisteria. That is going to need some expert removal. We had one by our air condition unit and bathroom window, when I was a kid. My mom and dad pulled that thing out more times then I can count. It kept growing back every time.

Fig trees can grow 15-30 ft tall left on their own. A well drained area with full sun is required. Don't do like me. 20yrs ago, when I bought my property, I was unaware how wet it stayed where I planted the trees to make a fruitful barrier between me & my neighbors. I planted 6 along the property line & all eventually died because it was too wet. I can fig preserve every year & wanted my own trees, now I have to search for one to pick. Good luck with your orchard. Oh, & I think by planting the fruit trees the native american spirits will be quite pleased. 🙋♀️💜
