Why do they have to suck blood of young talents like SSR by posting blind articles like the one put on by the 'Salt and Pepper' guy about Sushant being a rap*st? These same reviewers get the support of others, who has such a similar blind mentality and can't accept a person's success, if they build a career of their own. These same women talk about feminism but no one were supporting Kangana all these years. She may not be right 100%. But, there is certainly some truth about what she speaks and no one supports her for that. Where are these feminists then? sleeping or getting stuff from the biggies? If a random girl speaks about sexual abuse, no one really cares if what she is speaking is genuine. But, these hypocrites respond to such stuff saying them as 'Brave, Good job etc etc'. But where are these so called feminists when Kangana speaks about Mukesh Bhatt throwing chappal at her or the abuse that she has to take for exposing the bollywood mafia? So called critics take the first place in sucking the blood of the film industry by being the parasites.

Okay. I have to comment here like an idiot/religious fan of this movie. Anupama saying the transition to saadda haq was just put in to make it look cool explains the exact point nearly everyone missed about Rockstar. The direction style was so fresh that most mediocre film critics like Anupama missed the effect he wanted to produce. Imtiaz used a masterful timeline progression to show how Jordan gets to different pivotal points in his journey, through the use of montages. Before the point where he goes to Prague, he has seen basic levels of hardships: homelessness and breakup. He is portrayed as this lost and angry person. At this point, he is living his dream to be a singer, but he still doesn't know what is going on with his mind. He looks at Heer's window, looks with empty eyes at the sky, till he finds out that he has a chance to meet Heer. His path to darkness kindda begins there. He meets her, and falls into the next depth of love, only to be chucked off of her life again. She herself has to throw him out because of society, rules and prestige. He returns to India to enter his next level of darkness: the rebel. He hates people, his fans and the society at its existence. That's where saadda haq comes in. The song's remenassance with people fighting for freedom all around the country shows the sheer suffocation the emotion of love and purity has to face in this society. This here ends the address to your confusion of his character arc. But to complete my rant, I want to proceed further. After that point, Jordan reunites with Heer only to find out that she is about to die. He immediately decides to get into that bubble and tries to become happy again. This time around, he finds out that as they dig one level deeper into their love, nature itself rebels against their love and kills her. He now is pushed into the last level of darkness where he is existing: to eventually die. He sings to allmighty: take away my physical being, but no matter what dont take away my hope to reunite. The movie then ends with them living peacefully in their after lives signifying the field that Jordan asks her to wait at at the start of the movie. Rockstar always will be one of the best directed movies from india for it is the form of direction that is adept enough to amalgamate fimmaking with the core emotion behind the story.

People who haven't watched it yet definitely should give it a watch. I request Imtiaz Ali to go back to Ranbir. Only Ranbir has that ability to sense your actual emotions from the script.

POV: Heer in Rockstar, Tara in Tamasha and Mahabir in Highway are actually a part of the leads respectively. They are not actual beings but the personification of the feelings of the protagonists. Heer is the peace Jordan needed to calm down and get his head out of the things he was feeling. Therefore, when he is actually at peace, Heer fades away to his soul(which is represented as death). Tum Ho by Mohit Chauhan tells the need of peace and Kun Faya Kun also tells the surrendering to the God. Tara is the heart of Ved which he ignored as he made decisions with his mind. Agar Tum Saath Ho beautifully captures the arguments between the brain(Ved-Male part-Cream colored dress) and the heart(Tara-Female part-Red colored dress). Mahabir is the actually neither the heart nor the soul of Veera but the urge to travel. The urge to break free and to breathe without any suffocation. She first doesn’t accept the decision to go out(a problem of introverts) but finally comes to terms with it and enjoys. Maahi Ve tells the story of acceptance of the happiness of travelling by Veera.

I think, Ranbir is the embodiment of art and the artist in one and Heer is the individual engaging with art in society. They both need each other, desperately. The individual is stuck amidst the freedom and freshness of art and the constraints of society. Heer wants to break free and she needs art, otherwise she dies. Similarly art( and the artist) needs the individual to have any meaning. Janardhan can derive no meaning from his life without Heer. Symbolically, it is Heer who names him Jordan.

Here's the thing: both Ae Dil and Rockstar feature a first half that I assume is a version of a true story that took place, and the second half features things that people fantasize about after a heartbreak: becoming a rockstar or a famous celebrity, the girl having an unsuccessful marriage, her cheating on her husband, her dying, the guy dating literally the hottest woman in the world (Aishwariya Rai), I could go on. It's like I wrote the screenplay for those movies. I didn't think successful movie directors fantasized about the same things. And that's part of the problem: fantasies like those are fun for the guy fantasizing but they are not fun to watch for anyone else. Heartbreaks are relatable and are coming from a very real place, but the events that follow are inauthentic, self-indulgent, and are not something the writers of these movies have experienced or can credibly write about. And that kind of break from reality is noticeable.

In which world are you living? I have seen a real life example in my life, my friend He was such a chomu guy, he used to play video games till 26. He was a loser in a mediocre job. Some of his married male colleagues whom he used to have drinks made fun of him that he's Virgin, he has No gf. There are two of beautiful girls in office. They incited him to develop friendship with them n woo one of them n then marry them. This guy took it seriously n tried wooing them. It started with taking their number, slowly he developed friendship. He was pretty awkward n used to ask me what to chat, how to chat etc. I told him to not propose n just have fun, don't take it seriously. But the boy messed up he proposed with both of them n got rejected. To his worse both ladies got to know that he was after both of them. So it was very bad impression. Guy was heartbroken, embarrassed he felt like a total loser. He then started focusing on a ugly female colleague n going out with her. Made good friendship with her. Then after 2 months a new beautiful colleague joined their office. This colleague was room mate of this ugly colleague. So few times she joined their outing. Now this guy, groomed up now from past debacle started hitting on her with fresh approach. This girl was very beautiful, even more beautiful than previous girl. This girl started giving him positive response n eventually accepted his proposal. The guy dated her n did everything. The other two girls were jealous. He then even hooked up with them as well. It sound like a filmy story but it's the real story of this chomu guy who had heartbreak. So such stories exist bro.

Rockstar was a film that I liked and I couldn't understand why. It just spoke to me on an emotional level. And this was despite the toxic masculinity, man-child protagonist and weak female characterization that usually puts me off. This discussion helped me look at the film from different perspectives and get closer to understanding why. It is a flawed film, sure. But when it comes to the themes of music, heartbreak love and pain, very few contemporary films spoke to me like Rockstar did. ADHDM and Aashiqui 2, which had similar themes, probably had more coherent storylines, but they lacked the soul and depth, and hence the emotional impact of a film like Rockstar.

@@shailyrohini3802 love aaj kal wasn't a bad movie v honestly... His movies are about moments.. In such a case it gets v important to choose an extraordinary actor... I feel only ranbir/ deepika/ randeep hooda could get the pulse of the Imtiaz world... Not every actor gets that world On top of that love aaj kal 2 didn't have actors of that calibre yet ( acc to me)... A scene can be changed by an actor... I can't imagine anyone else doing a scene of ved in tamasha other than Ranbir.. Similarly, ' the andar wali zoe' scene wasn't done justice to by the actor... The scene in the dinner table in love aaj kal 2 was a disaster cos of the actress.. Imtiaz Ali films are culmination of moments and if the actor isn't great... It will not work 😀

I liked Rockstar because of its music and Ranbir's acting.. Heroine (or her role in the movie)was its minus. Completely agree with Anupama's take on this. Had the heroine's character was strong this movie would have become more successful and believable.

Do a retake on DevD What I like about that movie that both paro and chandramukhi have agencies and also it shows throughout all the devdas stories it is the paro and chandramukhi who actually knows what love is and not Devdas, This movie compelled me to watch all the adaptations of the same but this interpretation is simply mindblowing. I can't thank enough Anurag to give chandramukhi a back story

I cannot compare these two films. They are different people. There will always be politics when two subjects and people are involved. When any piece of craft generates from pain it becomes Art And to me him being a rockstar was also a metaphor for the journey one just endure to reach that level of inner self.

And idk he is not at all devoted to the spiritual thing of the movie. So based. I'm only here to see Imtiaz Ali. And Rahul , thanks for being our voice in this interview ❤️

I find Rockstar very disturbing because it critically navigates the birth and growth of an artist. And that is a difficult narrative to make and watch. And it is exceptionally done masha Allah. Kudos to Mr Ali for pulling it off and Mr Kapoor for essaying a character so intense with such integrity.

When this song come in movie I get goosebumps even now, and please dont do over analysis , it is like dat feeling which is so wrong but felt so good, ranbir, Rahman, imitiaz u guys are simply awesome and last but not least please make sequel I want to see how jordan manages to live after heer, I want to see even darker version, by d way m not someone who comments regularly but i have to do this cos this film plays so important role in making me what m today thanku @filmcompanion for doing this, love ur work guys🤟🤟

Also, very very important roles like Chautala Bhai and Record Label Owner played by Kumud Mishra and Piyush Mishra respectively need to be given the due credits more often as they are not only filling up those story patches but characterizing who Janardan was and what Jordan became. Remember, that till the end of the very film, the frenzy of Jordan's mind is only understood and accepted by his muse Heer and the fatherly figure Chautala Bhai.
