I was told I was rebellious for having a differing viewpoint. My younger brother and his wife were our pastors for 14 years. It was a mistake for me to stay as long as I did. I honestly didn’t realize how spiritually abused I was until the last few months. This Daystar case has truly grabbed my attention. I’ve listened nonstop. It’s uncanny how I went through similar control and manipulation tactics. It was hard to listen to in the beginning and had my nervous system firing off. Glad to have come across this video in my feed.

In 2006 I realized the pastor of church I was member was extremely manipulating: I left that church. The pastor even came to my job and told me I belonged in his church. I ignored him, prayed for him but never went back to that church.

Yes. I agree. It's highly commendable that Jonathan showed such remarkable strength of controlled emotions and resolve by sticking to his point calmly and not faltering or folding. The weaklings are those who needed each other to back them up and who needed witchcraft such as chanting, manipulation (such as undermining Jonathan's age and experience), and loss of self control to get their point across. They left there defeated by their own devices as well as by the strength of the Holy Spirit within a younger man, who was victorious because "in quietness (calmness) and confidence shall be your strength." Jonathan exuded strength and walked away the victor. His adversaries were the victims of their own evil devices and still are.

Yes it is amazing to see the abuse we silently suffered with for decades- is coming to the forefront of the church- Jesus is cleansing us of this manipulative and narcisisstic spirit of Jezebel...

I had a pastor decades ago who expected and demanded that new members have a second water Baptistism. Most new members went along with it, but one brave person said NO. No need ever for be baptisted again because a pastors says so.

Great analysis! ❤Seems like recent decades the ministry has been a magnet for attracting leaders who are narcissists, sociopaths or seriously damaged people. That recording of Joni Lamb & Jimmy Evans was such a powerful lesson about spiritual abuse, coercive control, manipulation, gaslighting, etc. They behaved nothing like Jesus. Jonathan, however, was respectful, yet held to his convictions, more like Jesus. We have a right to think, ask questions & say “no” if we think it violates our biblical convictions or common sense. I was in a destructive “Christian” cult for only 5 years & it affected me for 3 decades! I’m just now learning how to be stronger.

Praise God for your clear voice of truth! The silence of others is a loud acknowledgement of the truth you speak. You sound quite educated with narcissistic behavior. We became aware last year when I asked God to show me what distroyed my family. I appreciate how you speak of this abuse in non triggering words. Demons created the term triggering to get truth tellers shut down.

I can’t believe Joni took another woman’s husband as her own and then allowed her granddaughter to be abused and keeps that man around still . She treats her son like garbage

I left my church because the pastor was used to members jumping when he said jump and when it became evident I wouldn't do that, he purposely publicly tried to humiliate me. He had the church in groups, always something for members to do, 4 or 5 days a week and even more when he could. Church busy-work to him was more important than spending time with just your family. But a church cannot be healthy unless families within the church are healthy. I wouldn't jump through hoops. but neither was I disrespectful towards him. There was always one more "to-do" list, so many times it was not what God had told me to do. It was just another box to check off on the Pastor's list. He liked looking good to the community. He was manipulative in "subtle" ways, but i saw right through that. and he knew it. He would guilt greeters (i was one of them) and other members of the serve team, if we couldn't get there an hour early before church every Sunday. Being 15 to 20 minutes early was never good enough no matter what your family situation was. He'd guilt you if you already had plans on a Saturday, when he decided some last minute community service, expressing disappointment if you didn't show up. I saw right through that, the spirit of subtle control was so evident to me, but many others seemed oblivious to it. God told me to leave so I did. I've never regretted it. Churches in general are not even close to how God intended them to be. (That's not a blanket statement, I'm aware there are exceptions to every rule)

I was manipulated and told I was rebellious. That satan would destroy my life within 2 years because I stepped out from under my covering. This female Assistant Pastor demanded of me "WHO ARE YOU TO QUESTION THE KING?" I asked her who she is saying the King is? She told me "Pastor R because HE IS THE PERSON IN AUTHORITY!" My last words to her were "Pastor N, I have one king, and his name is Jesus!" With that stand and statement, we left our church of 12 years. It wasn't easy. We were shunned. Lost friends and struggled emotionally for a time. Spiritual abuse and manipulation is very damaging.

I'm so sorry you went through that. It's not easy to stand up and stay resolved on your convictions, especially when you're misunderstood and lose friends.

Yes, too many people rely on the arm of flesh. In the LDS cult I left recently the phrase is to follow the prophet. And those who don't are considered apostates and going to outer darkness, even worse of a place than where liars, murderers and adulterers go.... lol can't believe I used to believe all that nonsense!

I grew up in these circles and was parented with this type of spiritual manipulation. Everything was sin. Everything was “I can’t believe you call yourself a Christian and act like this. God is not pleased with you.” “You aren’t honoring your parents and people like you go to hell.” I was a good kid. Never got in trouble. Always respectful. I loved the Lord. But any show of emotion was sin and ai was displeasing God.

my parents (my dad in particular) think I am not honoring and obeying them because I left the LDS church they raised me in... I don't think they understand what that commandment means if they think that as an adult I am supposed to counsel with them in all my decisions and DO what they counsel me to do.

The nice thing about being a protestant is there is another church on the next corner so it is easy to walk away. But Jonathan would have had to walk away from his family and his job and a large fortune. That made him vulnerable to financial and spiritual abuse, but he held firm. The number one danger sign at a church is a board that is dominated by one family or the preacher. That makes it ripe for financial and spiritual abuse. If you see that run away.

Or a church that has no board or elders & the pastor makes all of the decisions & no one is allowed to question anything & loyalty was demanded at all times. We were guilted from the platform about being divisive or spiritual vagabonds if we left the church & would be out from under covering and therefore couldn't be blessed if we didn't honor the set man of the house or questioned things. There's so much more, but it is too exhausting to even share anymore.

@@barbs1298 That is not a church - that is a cult. Run away as fast as you can. I know it is hard but there are other real, Christian churches. Get out of there as fast as you can. Just walk away.

I discovered a new word - s*xtortion - and it fits a situation that I know about. The mental struggle to go through it, deal with it, recognize it, and get out of it . . . THEN expose it, is a huge mental gymnastic feat that few are willing to relive or go through again. That's why it's so insidious to use against a person.

Yes lived through it . Came to see them as a naracistic social path . Exodus 14:14. Unless God helps it is a strong presence against you . I have been dehumanized and not permitted to have my personality. Although I was a spirit filled controlled by Holy Spirit person . Working through my continual forgiveness to them when there are flair ups.

This is a good example of why Priestcraft is so destructive. There should not be a paycheck/money connected to leaders in churches. Take the money out and you'll get rid of most of the corruption.
