Not a healthcare professional. I'm just an anxious patient. But I'm curious if different patients define "sensitive health issues differently. Talking about my sexual health is awkward to me. However if a provider brings up my BP, or forbid weight, I absolutely shut down. Those things are far more sensitive to me than sexual health. I'm curious if what is sensitive and embarrassing for one patient, isn't a concern for another. BTW, I walk at least 5 miles before work every day, so my BP is within normal ranges and my weight is lower than many. But... Great conversation. I loved how matter of fact you were and how you normalized it.

Great question! Hopefully the patient would feel comfortable with their provider enough to say they are not comfortable with a specific topic. At the same time the provider should be compassionate to the patient needs and prioritize the patients goals in care.

I believe the answer to your question is that whether or not the patient experiences sensitivity depends upon a number of factors. Some patients are more or less sensitive across the board. Others don’t experience shame or embarrassment at all. Some patients need to get to know their healthcare provider over the course of YEARS before they feel comfortable opening up. Some of us have been sexually abused, others not. So I don’t think your question is easily answered.
