I forgot to mention this, but I took World and got a 5 last year. I'm also taking Euro and APUSH this year so hopefully that adds to my credibility lol.

Hello, I took the AP World and APUSH test and got a 5 on both, so I figured I would add my input for you. My Experience and Timeline: AP world was easy for me, which might just be due to my love for history and I want to teach it, but what I can tell you is do your best to enjoy the subject and pay attention. I believe your test will only include from 600CE to present, because they cut the timelines after my class. This should make it easier for you, since its less to study. Videos: There is plenty of good videos on KZbin for review. I actually wouldn't watch crash course because they go fast, but there is some review videos specifically on the AP time periods. Those are great, and luckily time periods do not really change. What To Know: If it is really only 600CE to present, the big factions (groups) you want to know are the Islamic Caliphates, mongols, China for sure, some medieval Europe for the earlier portion. Some other really important stuff, arguably some of the most important include the Colombian exchange, the whole east and west hemispheres, Empires such as Spain, Portugal, France, England. Then revolutions like in the US, France, Haiti. After that, know industrialization for sure! What's new from it and who is getting power from it, and how. Also, economic systems like communism and capitalism. Some world wars, but mostly new tech and relationships between countries. Then in the modern age, know mostly just the new tech like internet. Key Thing to Remember: Think critically, and comparatively. Big deal, especially on essays. How did this group, invention, or idea affect another? What is this particular event similar to? Also, think about what people want. Why invent? Why conquer? Think about the money, infrastructure, ideas. Religion. When it comes to Spanish in the Americas for example, they took the silver from South America and sold to China because everyone wanted a piece of China. Why bring catholicism to America's? Increase power, especially over enemy nations. Congratulations! If you read this far, good job. I hope I help you. Remembering all this helps a lot. For essays, there is individual videos on which will help greatly. Do a practice test a little while before, and time yourself. Quick tip: A lot of this applies to US history too, just different content and focus. The essay skills, MC, and critical thinking all can be taken into this class too. I also got a 5 there. Additional info: You can check AP central and see past year's tests, as well as student's responses, and grades. This is important for writing good essays and short answers. Take advantage of this. Best of luck! You got this to whoever read all this!

thank you so much for this video! i have some questions: -how can you easily figure out how to group the documents? -for complexity, if you are relating it back to another time period in a paragraph at the end, will this be enough and does it matter how far back/ahead in time you go? -how can you differentiate between historical context in sourcing and outside evidence?

1- As for grouping, I generally try to figure out if the document is for something, or against something. If your thesis is that the Portuguese significantly impacted trade through maritime inventions, I would put a document about the strength of their ships in the "pro" group and a document about the Muslim's established routes in the "con" group. I wouldn't worry *too* much about this though. 2 - For complexity, relating it to another period is one method that could def get you the point! If you are worried but have extra time, I would attempt multiple methods as the rubric outlines. As long as you don't merely mention it (obviously, saying "Well the Portuguese trade routes were like those of the British" - isn't enough.) It shouldn't matter how far back or ahead of time you go, or even where you compare it to, since it would still employ the historical thinking skills of compare/contrast or changes over time (CCOT). For example, I compared the Protestant Reformation to the French Revolution in my Euro DBQ, and to prove my point I elaborated on their commonalities like violent protests and the bloody aftermath that followed. 3 - This is always super tricky, but in my opinion anything that you can't get directly from the document (there is always a brief description before each document including the author, their background, and the year) is outside evidence.

I’ve been stressing out because of this, not sure if the change of the dbq thing is good or bad.

Vitas To be honest, I think the rubric is really forgiving in terms of their “intermediate” points, like in the past you needed to source 3 documents for 1pt but now you can source 2 documents for 2 pts, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it! I’m just sad that it’s DBQ only haha

1 funny thing, I took the test the year with that Indian Ocean box too haha. My class was frustrated with it, but it was no problem for me. Must have not been too bad for you either if you got a good grade

Thanks so much for this helpful video! I was just wondering if you had advice for how to absorb all the material best, or what general things are most important to keep in mind when studying? I'm trying to review material from the past year for AP World but find it difficult to actually be absorbing what I'm reading! I really want to get a 4 or 5 this year, so I'm kinda stressing and any of your biggest tips would help lol!

Dori B my advice always is to study the relationships (social, economic, cultural, also comparisons to other civilizations etc). it’s much more important to understand the bigger picture than the smaller details (e.g you should understand the cultural, economic and social ramifications of the columbian exchange like how it spread disease and technology over knowing that columbus arrived in 1492). although notetaking is really helpful i would also recommend taking in info in small doses, such as in cram videos and podcasts (crash course isnt a podcast, but a great series i listened to in the background while i worked out/cooked), that was really manageable for me and avoided burnout. when i did take notes though i focused less on explicit definitions and rather writing my own summaries - like i was retelling the story of an empire almost. i did this with my friends too, we would just facetime each other and talk about what happened in each period and fill in the gaps for each other, and that makes learning more interactive (although i am a history nerd so i am biased lol). trust me, it gets tiring staring at princeton review after a while. finally ik now the exam is just a dbq, but when i prepped i preferred to use all the saqs, dbqs and leqs as content review (in conjunction to refining my writing skills) as it allowed me to critically think about the content and write it down (which helps with memory). i hope this helps and good luck!!
