People can't just look at statistics alone, have tocbe based on many factors like envoirment around the players, weighted average of points + defense, team impacts etc. Dame isn't top 75 all time.

@Marvin Hunter if it were close then I'd concede your argument but Kemp was never in MVP consideration. Dwight finished in the top 5 of voting multiple times and was 2nd once. Kemp's prime was 8 years (that's how long he was a regular starter), Dwight's is the same over that time he averaged more points, rebounds, & blocks. I will concede that Kemp was more polished offensively in large part due to his mid range jumper but Dwight still put up more points. As for the competition you mentioned, Dwight did in fact have to deal with Duncan. He also had to deal with guys like KG, Amare, & Yao (who is admittedly a class below) as well as Shaq his last years in LA & during his Miami run. He always had to check the opponent's best big be they a 4 or a 5. Kemp be comparison didn't have to contend with half of who you mentioned. If I recall correctly he didn't guard centers all that much which would disqualify Shaq, Mourning, & Ewing etc. The 99 lockout did hurt Kemp though. He got out of shape & though he still made an All star team afterward, he was never the same. Also, his decline was far steeper than Dwights

Zach Lowe lost all credibility when he said Dennis Rodman should not be on the list. This is the problem with the list. No respect for defensive players. Dikembe, Dwight Howard, Ben Wallace. They were great players. Dikembe dominated Game 7 vs the Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals when he the 76ers went to the Finals. He's a 4-Time Defensive Player of the Year. He should be on the list above AD, Dame, Melo, Harden.

Walton's case is really tough. One the one hand, his career was way too short. He's more of a what-if. Think guys like Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway, or Derrick Rose if they won a title. But on the other hand, Walton actually did win a title, which separates him from those guys I listed above. And recent analysis I've come across suggests he really had one of the biggest impacts on the game, particularly on defense and playmaking. So your definition of value really stems from what you consider important, peak play, longevity, or some combination. I think most of us think some combination so that takes Walton off many lists because he didn't have longevity, but the argument could be made his peak was so good that he belongs on the list of the best who ever played. And mind you, for years I was of the opinion this guy doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame, or that if you use his collegiate success to define his greatness then guys like Christian Laettner need more consideration.

Nice discussion but you missed the biggest one of all Artis Gilmore, better than 25 of the people who made the list. His first 5 seasons in ABA but won Rookie of the Year and MVP in first year. If you completely disregard the ABA years, take what he did in the NBA compare to Wes Unseld, or Dennis Rodman, who both made it, Gilmore's numbers are still way better. Player Efficiency Rating of 22.1 #50 all time so many other areas in top 50. Some of the voters had bias for the teammates they played with, and are not always the best analysts. Hopefully there will be more sophistication next time Gilmore will be considered and acknowledged at the 100 anniversary. There's already probably 25 active players destined for that list so they're gonna have to gotta start trimming.
