@rebeccapaquette92035 жыл бұрын
Basically all Clinton Anderson's "training" videos are the same : a completely ignorant and clueless owner becomes scared of their horse, so Clinton comes in labelling the horse as "aggressive" or "dangerous" and goes into his absolutely unnecessary whip cracking, rope swinging, chase the horse like a wild man act for the camera. The horse has no idea why this strange human is doing this and tries to escape, so Clinton declares the horse is disrespectful because he's trying to scramble over the fence to get away. More chasing, whip cracking, etc before the horse responds in a way that Clinton finds acceptable, at which point he tells the owner that he has to become the dominant member to get trust and respect. (Meanwhile any trust the horse might have had has just been blown out of the arena). So the owner is taught to be needlessly aggressive instead of learning communication and Clinton goes on to label and harass yet another horse who doesn't deserve it.

Clinton just runs a horse until they are totally drenched in sweat and are breathing as fast as they can-in Texas when the temperature is hot as hell. I can’t watch him anymore. I am training a horse that was scared as hell. I think he was maybe abused or some shit and now since he knows that I am not hurting him and we can have fun he has a very playful and brave side. This horse reminds me of him. He is swinging his head at me when I want him to change direction and one time he kicked in the air. I corrected that, because it could be dangerous if he is kicking. But I know that it is just his playful not mean behaviour. He is such a great little horsey. I just love this playful side.

2 weeks ago i was doing liberty with my horse and just being a terrible person. I was nagging him, chasing him with a whip, ignoring his cues and when he was trying to communicate with me, i just wanted to watch him run. His hooves were too long, there were horses tied to the outside of the round pen that he wanted to avoid and i was pushing him into them, id already been making him run for a long time that day, and he was uncomfortable and nervous and in pain, and i was just not listening. So, he charged at me, ears pinned, but he veered off several feet away, he wasnt trying to hurt me only communicate, and then looked at me expectantly, ready to do what i wanted noe that id gotten the message. I wasnt listening when he asked me to stop, so he had to yell at me. It was the first time he had ever acted like that, and i knew instantly it was my fault. He doesnt hate me, he was just frustrated i wasnt listening and made it obvious. I pushed him passed his limit and made him explode, and ive never felt like a bigger piece of shit in my life. But Rick, thanks to your videos i can look back on what happened, see what i missed and what i did wrong, and I will never make those mistakes again. If i hadnt watched you i mightve gotten mad, chased him, made him respect me and my space, or been scared that he was a dangerous horse, but i can see that it wasnt a horse problem, it was a stupid human problem, and i was the stupid human, so thanks for what you do Rick.

Love your videos. When you were talking about Blue hating being caught because she knows what’s going to happen it hit home with me. This year I took in an 18 year old mare that these people no longer wanted because she was hard to catch and they didn’t have time. I’ve had her for 2 months now and still cannot catch her if I have a halter in my hand. But. If I just have a rope in my hand she’ll let me catch her and walk her to the gate where I can halter her. I’m perfectly ok with that. I don’t have to bribe her with grain or lock her in a catch pen to get her.

I dont think think how Clinton Anderson trains is that bad (hes more aggressive than what I think is necessary, but I wouldn't say hes abusive) the problem, I think, comes from trying to teach people to do what he does. The biggest difference is, from what I've noticed, is he (for the most part) seems to know when to release pressure, but he doesn't teach that very well. People try to do what he does and use "the method" but they don't actually know how to apply it. Doing what Anderson does requires you to be able to read the horse (really every training does) and if you dont know how to read a horse, his method does more harm than good.
@notadumbblond35 жыл бұрын
Rick, I just want to say, even though I can be an idiot and a pest in your comments, I love that you point out in every video how it's not the horse's fault and that fault is 100% with the human. And especially love that you point out how this horse was portrayed as mean when it's not.
@notadumbblond35 жыл бұрын
There are certain horses I'm great with, since I have experience with those that have been both abused by one owner and spoiled by the "rescuer". Or injured accidentally by the owner, then spoiled because they've frightened the owner. But I only am great with them because I learned to read them and use horse rules for working them, not human rules.

@Horsedogz5 жыл бұрын
Ohhhh I saw this a while back! I also remember thinking that this horse is just playing and the owner is teaching her that he runs away when she behaves that way. Absolutely no aggression coming from her, and there is no way she's dangerous or trying to kill her owner. I also thought that Clinton Anderson was being a bit too harsh with her, and then teaching her owner to be so harsh. I thought that amount of chasing and etc. was completely unnecessary. Oh, and her groundwork is poor? No, he has no idea how to lunge a horse properly or how to send any sort of clear signals at all! He's all over the place! If he didn't use a chain and she had room to burn off energy (and other horses to play and interact with), Blue would be so much easier to work with, but the owner needs to know how to ask a horse to do something properly. Never the horse fault. Glad you're covering this video Rick!

I'm visually picking up that she's a bit lonely and playfull with energy to burn. Kind of a big filly, that she wants to run and have fun. She'd rather be with other horses, but a good human will do in a pinch if they can keep up. Yet to see an agressive or willfully disrespectful bone in her body so far (@19:10). At most, I'd call this showey 'play fighting' like foals or dogs often do. The most she would likely do is nip/bite, which for a 1/2 ton animal is rough play at best. Heck, I think she's great and wish I had longer legs so I could run around and keep up with her :)

He has no idea how to lunge that horse. He's giving so many God damn confusing signals. The rope says one way, the arm says another way, his positioning says another and his posture says yet another! My mare would have flattened him. She would have just run straight through him, and she's a gentle respectful mare! Even when asked to do something she doesn't like, she will do it with minimal fuss. Actually she looks like she is energetic and playful and he looks like he doesn’t understand his horse. What an unfortunate combination! With a more experienced rider I bet she could be a lot of fun as well as be willing to develop a more bonded relationship but the unwitting owner seems to always misinterpret her signals. When she says let’s play, he will think she is disrespectful. If she rides well then clearly the previous owner had a very different relationship with the horse. I would also be inclined to talk more with the previous owner about the horses personality and training style of the owner.

I absolutely hate when people stall up horses with no good reason other than they want them there. Only time MY barn EVER stalls a horse is if there’s a lesson coming up for someone who for some reason or another can’t catch the horse themself. Like someone with Cerebral Palsy. If there’s a strong dangerous storm and we don’t trust the run in to be protective enough. (We get tornados sometimes). If we have the farrier or get coming soon. Or if the horse is sick or injured and we don’t want them with the rest of the herd. For example we had a sick horse that we didn’t know if they were contagious yet. And another time we had a mare fall down a hill and got a deep deep gash in her leg that she kept pulling open so we wrapped her up and kept her stalled up til it healed enough to go back out.

@cypheri13395 жыл бұрын
My grandfather once bought a gelding who we later found out had been abused badly... rode like a dream for pretty much anyone once he was saddled, but was a major asshole on the ground because he got defensive to people due to his past experience. Turns out they'd been saddling him in anchored cross ties so he couldn't whip his head around and bite while being tacked and we had to learn the hard way that trying to tack him with his head free was a bad idea. He was reconditioned to be better mannered with a lot of time and patience, but that little gelding was the first (and only) horse to ever force me out of the round pen for my own safety early on in that process. Had a really bad session where he decided that biting was a good idea while trying to get his halter on. Pushed his head away, ended up with him trying to reach down and bite at my legs instead, so I leaned into his shoulder while holding onto the halter and mane to make him spin a few times before sending him across the pen to give myself time to back off and reset. Still never used chains or whips even with a horse actually trying to hurt.

Paints can be solid. Because all the Genes that cause the paint coloring are dominant, if both parent are heterozygous (one dominant copy, one recessive [non paint]) copy, theres a 25% chance of a non paint. There is a section of the paint horse registry for "solid" paints. Plus, if they were a paint/quarter horse cross, they can be in the paint registry and be solid (especially if the paint parent was heterozygos, then there would be a 50% chance of a solid paint horse). My grandpa had a horse that barely made it as a colored paint. He was only considered part of the colored registry because of a white spot on his size (pretty small, but exceeded the minimum standard for the amount of white [or color in the case of mostly white horses]).
