Another black leader has resigned as a Democratic Alliance MP. The party's former shadow Communications Minister, Phumzile van Damme resigned as an MP last night, saying it's because of a 'clique of individuals.' For more, Dan Moyane speaks to political analyst, Professor Dirk Kotze. Courtesy #DStv403

The DA has lost its plot. It seem they will soon disappear as the National Party did. They will not get my vote again. It seems like Bantu Holimisa is the only decent veteran politician still left out there.

But even under Maimane's leadership the DA was also loosing voters. Why no analyst mentions that when they analyse DA affairs? I suspect political correctness!!

Black people seeking membership in DA, most of them if not all of them never participated in the liberation struggle in South Africa. They join and being capacitated by stalwarts of DA and enjoy political positions because the organization lack black people support. In real sense black people leaders in DA are newcomers in politics. That situation create uncertainty in promotion of you're chosen political party and such result to the feeling of discrimination and ignorance of black people ideas within white dominated organizations. People like Mashaba and Marimane are example of such non strategic involvement in politics. They wish to supernatural in politics but lack of political development during apartheid era suppress their formal activities.

The DA's diversity clause is a joke. Individualism when such is literally still negated by ongoing structures which interpellate people as groups...They are not pluralists, they are assimilationists. Moreover, they refuse to recognize (conferring harm) such and other interpellations and call for detaching from one's background to be "aN iNDiViDUalL"; the result is the recognition of one effective group identity -- those of individuals -- without conceding that it's a group identity. They think their ideology is not a cultural inheritance but something beyond culture. Universalising their particularity. It's white supremacy, ez

@lordwickphophi6998
@lordwickphophi6998 3 жыл бұрын
@Sentso I suspect you have a problem of comprehension. Yes Maimane resigned, but he resigned both as DA MP and member at once. In Van Damme's case, she resigned as DA MP only but not as a DA member. Initialy, you claimed that "she's not the first and surely not the last,,,,,,,,,,". I then asked you to name black D.A members who once resigned as MPs first and later as members. As things stand, Van Damme is still DA member. Lastly, what do you mean when you say i'm making this my baby? Am i not allowed to debate this thread?

So more than one truth can exist at the same time. The DA started out as being the "vanguard" of white liberal consciousness, which at its heart (at the time) was well positioned to play the role of "Jiminy Cricket" to middle class white South Africans. That impact in the history of our political landscape shouldn't be forgotten. But (yep), like most parties from "that" time, they have failed to become relevant now, much less maintain whatever relevance they might have at all. The ANC enjoys the psychological support of many black South Africans, God knows not because they're actually doing anything right, but as the "liberating" party (although that sentiment is in an of itself becoming an oxymoron) they can speak to the hearts of black citizens with nostalgia and invoking the nobility of their past through struggle songs and using the names of Mandela, Tambo, Sisulu et al... But those days are fast running out too. The question then becomes - who replaces who? and perhaps more importantly, at what cost? The magicians adage rings true here: "Magic happens...when you're looking somewhere else". We insist on identity politics in this country - but cry foul when nasty stereotypes rear their ugly heads. We play at political correctness - but only when it suits a particular narrative. We are pretenders at egalitarianism - but only if you have enough victim cards can you be a beneficiary. We talk a big game about nation building - but have forgotten that the only way to rise, is to rise together. All along, we have failed to learn the most important lesson of all. The grand experiment of racial superiority and segregation in this country failed MISERABLY and generations later will be paying the cost. There too, we make very, very big mistakes in the wording that we use to articulate the legacy of Apartheid. We conflate "psychology" with "economy". While we were NEVER going to fix the psychological harm of Colonialism and Apartheid rule in 30 years, the hundreds of BILLIONS of Dollars that have been stolen in this country by members and connections of the ruling party, would have gone quite some way towards....oh, I don't know...building toilets in the townships. So let's continue on the merry-go-round then. The DA has does what it does and who the hell is even sure about what that is anymore and the ANC does (or more accurately DOESN'T do...well, anything) and in the meantime, the "magic" is happening somewhere else, only - we're too distracted to see it.
