Discussion Today - Judiciary & Artificial Intelligence

Today we’re going to talk about a very interesting subject - Artificial Intelligence in Judiciary. The Supreme Court's Artificial Intelligence Committee on Tuesday launched its Artificial Intelligence portal SUPACE - which is short for Supreme Court Portal for Assistance in Courts Efficiency. The specially designed system was inaugurated by CJI SA Bobde, who called it a 'perfect blend of human intelligence and machine learning and 'a hybrid system', which works together with human intelligence. He said it’s the first of its kind system in the world as it would collect all the information, much faster than a human being, which a judge would require to decide a case, but it itself will not come out with a decision. Allaying apprehensions that the new technology will in any manner influence the outcome of a litigation, the CJI said the autonomy and discretion of judges will remain intact with no interference from the software. CJI-designate Justice N V Ramana, also welcomed the new system saying it is time saving and would help reduce the pendency of cases that the apex court is burdened with. So how will this new AI-based system help in reducing delays and pendency of cases? And how will it help in making justice delivery more efficient is what we will discuss on the show today.

Artificial intelligence in judiciary is useful aid because it can recognize patterns in a text document, and can thus quickly identify which direction a judgment could take.

Ease of justice also implies ease of accessibility to justice. The major challenge in this regard is the accessibility of internet to and with the very last individual in the country. Covid 19 has put focus on the internet divide in our society. Unless this challenge is addressed, we cannot be sure of the equal deliverance of justice.

AI is a wonderful tool to sift through innumerable laws, bylaws, acts, precedents and the humangous burden of cases in seconds that humans can't. But this will never be allowed to happen. Because politicians want a system that can be bent as per their convenience.

is this AI going to cover Antecedents of litigants to have 360 view of litigants and obviously to have report res judicata vs res sub judice. Is this cover Adhar / passport to KYC (Know your customer/litigant)- Is AI database will have unique identification. Is litigants support to declare previous cases as mandatory of all nature ?

all government jobs age limit should be 50, bcoz what happens, when a person joins a government job, he knows that if he quits, he won't be able to get this job again, & so now he is stuck like a bad marriage, so he will be abusive, exploitative, liar, timid & deep in corruption, but if the age limit is 50, he will easily leave government job, he will try his dream business or passion, bcoz he knows that if he will pass the exam again, he can join the job again.
