I don't usually comment. But this is a slap in the face. I hope the artists were POC. If my understanding is correct the artist is paid a flat fee. So white classics that make money decade after decade will be promoted for Black History to surpass POC books sale because of (limited edition POC covers). WOW American schools purchase these books by the box load yearly. Ivy is right over the years the number of inner city kids interested in reading some of these books is decreasing. I don't know who suggested this a POC or not. I'm hurt that B&N would use Black History to promote White Classics and not use Black History to promote and support up and coming POC authors in a way that guarantees notice (like this did). In fact, if B&N took a cut in their profits to do the PR for POC authors they know are excellent but lack proper support, I would have been elated and a purchaser. To push a white profit agenda I can only define as “2020 black face”, I can only be insulted I had a membership with B&N for more than 15 years. Anyone who knows me can only imagine the money I have left in their stores over the years.

I 100,000% agree- they need sensitivity editors. I guarantee this idea was done by white people and white people alone, who didn’t even think to ask a person of color about it

One question could have made a huge difference. Or! Making BN classic editions of actual black classics. 🥰But no one in this meeting thought that so at least we know the type of people on their marketing team.🤷🏾♀️👩🏾💻😬
