I immediately said this if Austin Dillon turned Elliot first then turned Larson everyone would want him dead no matter the three getting back in victory lane. Nascar will never beat the "drivers have no talent and just turn left" when you do this. Europeans and American fans of sports like F1 will continue to laugh when things like this happen on the weekly.

You are a million percent right Tyler. Nascar has done it to themselves. Playoffs, gwc, one race to decide a champion, win and your in.....people need to admit nascar has become a reality show and less of a racing series. I still think a 1hr time slot in prime time with no commercials would save the current reality show more than pretending we're still a sport.

No matter how anyone puts it, Austin Dillon deserved to win the race. He led the final 29 laps of the scheduled distance while driving away from Hamlin. If it wasn't for NASCAR having an overtime (caused by Preece's brain dead move) and the win and your in playoff format, none of this would have happened. Dillon would have won the race without incident after undoubtedly having the best car at the end. But instead we had a race that finally went EXACTLY how NASCAR has wanted after all these years.

It depends on what you mean by "deserve." You don't just deserve to win because you led laps and were pulling away towards the end. Before the caution (that Stenhouse caused, not Preece), had it stayed green, anything could still happen, like a blown engine, tire issue, brake issue, driver error, etc. You don't deserve it until you've won (unless someone clearly wrecks you as you're coming to the line, then a much better argument could be made for it). I understand what you're saying, and I agree with it being a result of NASCAR's rules and that they're the ones who have given the drivers incentive to drive this way. This is ultimately on them for creating this environment. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what the fans or consumers of the product say; we all know that NASCAR is never wrong and that this is the best format ever created in the history of sports. This race is the pinnacle of everything wrong with nascar. From the fact that they needed goodyear to make a bandaid for the car because nascar can't design a good race car, From the fact that the entire playoff format means nothing matters in the long term if you get lucky, from the gwc rule taking away a good finish. Everything from stage racing, playoff points, win and your in is pointless and dumb. No other motorsport does this, get rid of the championship and go back to a points based system and at least 60% of all the problems with nascar are solved right there.

The option/prime tires worked excellently, Suarex & McDowell changed their races by taking it at a different time to the other. McDowell managed to go from being the lucky dog & likely a 25-30th place finish to a 15th place finish by using 1 set of his early. If they keep it up then I think you'll see the cars towards the back gambling on their primes early hoping to catch a quick caution, which could mix the field up a bit

I hate the player, but more importantly hate the game as it is right now, which is saying something as a Ryan Blaney fan as I am. The win and your in system shouldn't be the way you make it into a playoff if we are going to keep this system around. Go back to what the 2004 version of the chase was to determine who makes it in.

Let’s say that Dillon won outright without the craziness. It really sucks this system makes people dislike him winning because it’s a waste of a playoff spot. The underdog win used to be great. When your driver wasn’t in it and there was an underdog, it was a popular win. Now it makes it hard for those drivers. They win and receive hate for winning just because they aren’t a top driver.

It's almost like a full season long points race is still the truest and most pure way to determine a champion and entirely avoids this kind of drama. I stand by to this day that Jeff Gordon should be the actual third 7-time champion, and not Jimmie, when looking at the true and full season long points total if NASCAR didn't try to fix what wasn't broke. And I say this as a mid-30's millennial growing up in his early years being a diehard Dale Sr. fan who can only remember the painful years of his falling off, outside of that glorious 1998 Daytona 500 win, and being beyond frustrated and hated to see Jeff take his mantle as the best in the sport at that time.

That does depend on exactly what full season point system you use. If NASCAR used F1 points, Johnson would be the only seven time champion in Cup history. (Though not quite the ones he did win, as he'd lose '08 and '16 while picking up '04 and '12.)

If you watch the replay, starting 200 feet before the line that starts the restart area you will see the front of the 22 car is even with the beginning of the 3’s passenger’s door. When they get to the line that starts the restart area the 22 is even with 3. Either the 3 slowed down or the 22 sped up for that to happen. It looks to me if you look at the relationship of the 3 and 22 in relation to the other cars, the 22 sped up. That gives the 22 an unfair advantage because his car has forward momentum at the line. The 22 should be disqualified for jumping the start. Look at other replays for the contact of the 3 and 11. Look at the position of the 3 and 11 in relation to the bottom yellow line of the track and the first lane dashed line and keep in mind that they are both still in the exit of the turn. You will see that the 3 in straddling the first lane dashed line and the 11 is at the bottom of lane 1 next to the yellow line. Now go frame by frame and watch the cars in relation to the 2 lines. You will clearly see the 11 moves up and into the 3, the 3 is NOT moving down. The 11 caused the accident.

In any other Motorsport that cares about the quality of its races and the driving product, this would be penalized. There's a difference between hard racing and then just drilling someone through the corner out of desperation for a win.

and then he fucked up the restart and would have lost if he didn't dump two cars. You can be the fastest car all night, but if you lose because of your own mistake, then so be it. Just straight-up killing two cars though? Dude tainted the night for himself.

I loved it. Dale Sr did the same thing all the time. I’m so happy for Austin. I hope Joey gets suspended for doing burn outs in the 3 pit box with crew members and family around
