Part of the problem is the attack on police officers over the last several years. No matter what they do people will say the police were in the wrong. @@bwenluck9812 That’s a bit misleading. The SCOTUS ruled that a restraining order that was written with instructions to the police that they “shall arrest” or issue an order for arrest of a violator did not constitute a “property interest” in the view of the 14th Amendment. Basically, such a case carries no legal obligation from the Constitution. However… the Constitution is not the only set of laws. Far from it. There are statutes too. In the end, the point is that the police have broad discretion on what to enforce, and how to enforce it… or not, because of an unending variety of situations they encounter, each requiring a different approach. Writing legislation that covers each possible situation is plainly impossible. It is therefore up to the executives in charge of the law enforcement agency to see to it that they do their jobs correctly.

@@rcisneros8567 I do see why. You shouldn't have that job if you can't handle risky and terrifying situations, but it also feels wrong to charge someone with crimes for being afraid. I can't know for sure, but my guess is that the police officer (Arredondo?) was afraid to die and instead tried to talk the perpetrator into giving up. He shouldn't be allowed to keep his job, since he's obviously not right for that job, but I'm also not sure what more can be done. Should he be fined? Maybe. Prison time? I don't think so.

Please officers are trained and equipped to deal with this situation. They have been many instances of active shooters in recent time in the United States as far as I know, this is the only case in which the police did not immediately and aggressively act to suppress the shooter. The border patrol team that went in suffered no casualties. They had been on the scene for half an hour and had not going in because the police chief had ordered them not to. Finally the commander of that team put his own retirement and career at risk by disobeying the police chief and ordering the team into the room. It was bravery on that day, but not on the part of the police chief.

@@VictorPoulin Guns don’t do anything. People use guns to do things. Police officers tend to respond to the training, which indicates there may be a problem there. These issues need to be addressed to prevent a repeat of this unfortunate incident.

Actually, they do know what “protect and serve” means. Far better than you and all their other critics. Did you think “protect and serve” applied to YOU? No. It applies to the LAW. If you told a random cop to do your laundry, then he will probably say no. Therefore, cops clearly do not serve YOU. They serve the LAW. YOU are just an entitled fool.
