The probability of living after two shots is (5/6)*(4/5) which is about 67%. Toast's math was off when he said there's a 50% chance of being dead by the second shot. However the third shot is 3/4, which makes the total probability of survival at 50% after the third shot. ...Which makes total sense since each chamber has a 1/6 chance of having the bullet, so the latter 3 chambers have a 3/6 chance of having the bullet. Similarly the first four chambers had a 4/6 chance of holding the bullet, which matches the (5/6)*(4/5) from above.

Do you know for sure the games calculates the probabilities like that? Based on the animations they don't spin the drum after a shot, which means the probability is always 1/6 cause it only depends on where the drum lands after the first spin. So it's like after you spin at the start you have 1/6 chance of picking the bullet straight away, 1/6 chance of picking the chamber right before the bullet (i.e., 1/6 of dying with the second shot), 1/6 of picking the chamber that's two spots away from the bullet (1/6 of dying with the third) and so on

If the game randomises the position of the bullet even without showing the animation of the character spinning the drum again after every shot then you're correct, but if we stick to the fact that they don't ever spin it after the initial spin then it's always 1/6 as I said

@@benjaminbarbaro6040 actually, the more I think about it the more I'm convinced it must be the way I say it is. You can't spin after every shot otherwise you could never die. You can only spin at the start to be sure you would eventually go through every chamber. My point is, and I could be mistaken, that you can look at it this way: first round you have a 1/6 chance of lining up any of the chambers, obviously, and then you just keep going from there, so the probability of you picking the chamber with the bullet is 1/6 in the first round, obviously, but the probability of you picking the chamber that would kill you with the second shot is also 1/6, since the bullet has a 1/6 probability of ending up in any of the chambers, and you just keep going through them systematically. You don't spin and pick at random between the remaining chambers, there's a fixed order to them

Yes. The correct way to calculate is 1/6 chance for the bullet to end up in a specific chamber, and then going through it, you progressively have 1/6 2/6 3/6 4/6 5/6 and 6/6=100% chance to land on that specific chamber.
