Not only do you have to stand around in hot costumes all day, but you are required to know pretty much any question that could be asked of you that your character should know. You have to stay in character the whole time and I believe Disney makes people live in certain housing as well that is close to the park. There is actually a cool behind the scenes documentary video about becoming a princess at Disneyland on YT. Added an edit: ahh I was going off memory, I guess you can live wherever you want, but you have to option to live in their housing.
