I was an ordinary nurse wanting a job in an ordinary hospital and was told I needed a medical examination prior to commencing work. The doctor I saw asked me to remove my top and bra. I am a qualified heart and lung nurse and I know that it is not necessary to remove all clothing to listen to someone's heart or lungs. I asked why he wanted my clothes removed. He gave me a story. I refused, he got angry and threatened to not ok me for the job. I didn't back down. I got the job and later heard that this doctor was notorious for getting women (nurses) to remove their tops and feeling their breasts. (You may think he was checking for breast cancer...but no he wasn't...he was just wanting a feel.) I wish I had reported him but I was very young. Now I wouldn't hesitate to report him. I believe that even though I may not have been able to prove what happened at least my report would be on file to help the next person it happened to. *Always report this behavior...please* even if it is difficult to prove...at least it will be on file to help the next persons case.

I've seen some people in the comments arguing that we should seek to punish within the law, forgive, and then rehabilitate child molesters. No. Just no. These sick, disgusting people should not be forgiven for ruining a child's life, or in this case, hundreds of children's lives. They can't be rehabilitated either. A child molester will spend the rest of their life feeling those urges and desires. They only stop doing it if they make the decision to resist those urges. And very few are strong enough to do so. Putting them back out into the public because you believe they are "rehabilitated" is only putting more innocent children at risk of becoming their victims. Frankly, prison time is not a good enough punishment for these monsters. However, I also support the rule of law, thus we shouldn't be torturing them. I think they should all be sentenced to death. They destroyed an innocent child's life, so let's end theirs. It's honestly better than they deserve. EDIT: Changed all instances of "pedophile" to "child molester," since I meant to be specifically talking about those that sexually assault children.

I wasn't aware there was a difference. Is it that pedophiles use child pornography but don't actually assault children, while child molesters do? Honestly, even those using child pornography should be punished extremely harshly, considering that they enable the market for child pornography, where children are molested for their viewing pleasure. Perhaps they shouldn't be executed though, as those that assault children should be.

No I think you should put them in a prison speically for these kinds of people, that's so bad they'll wish they had been killed, because humane euthanasia is too good for them.
@PraetorianHiJynx

Actually, I've looked it up and pedophiles are simply people who are sexually attracted to children. So technically child molesters are also pedophiles, but I see what you're saying. A pedophile might not have done anything illegal yet. However, I think it was clear to most people who I was talking about, considering that I strictly mention those that assault children.

Zoeannaart -Zilahtov In an age where anyone can claim anything without proof and where studies now include being asked out twice as a form of sexual harassment, we need to be provided details when someone claims something on social media. This could have been gluteus massages for all we know. I'm not trying to discredit anyone, I'm not just assigning any belief to something unless I know more.
@desalex4683
@desalex4683 7 жыл бұрын
R T they already provided a lot of evidence though their accounts. it's hard to have any real physical evidence for past assault and non-rape sexual assaults. And even if they were "just massages" why did they happen privately, away from practices and other people? It would be inappropriate for a grown man to be alone with prepubescent girls even if the "treatments" weren't sexual.
@badascan8910
@badascan8910 7 жыл бұрын
Zoeannaart -Zilahtov big difference. One is a grown man putting his fingers in little girls, the other is pressuring women into sex. they want to be famous so bad they either say yes or keep quiet until they're already successful. That's half on them. You don't need to be an actress. There are other ways. Like bill burr said, you don't see people talking about the gold diggers marrying a guy having kids with him then taking everything he has And banging the new guy in his house.
@treebark8156
@treebark8156 7 жыл бұрын
R T Undermining the victims because of how easy it is to lie (news flash, m8: Lying isn't new and goes both ways) is stupid and backwards. The first story is about someone already proven to be a molester, children included, who abused his position of power. Also, since when are gluteal muscles in your *chest* or *in* your genitals??? Already the excuses exist for you, and they aren't even correct! You acknowledge the fact anyone can claim anything about proof _in this age,_ but not the fact that's it's also easy to either prove/disprove things _in this age._ Like I did with googling gluteal muscles. If a doctor told me that him fingering me and groping my chest was a "gluteus massage", then fuck that I'm calling the police. False accusations are shit, and fuck people that do that, but the way you're sounding it's as if you're dismissing everything just because you don't know everything, and that's it. This is the problem victims have with coming out, and the problem with people not taking these things seriously. If I was raped in some dark alley, do you really expect a handwritten letter from the rapist written immediately before I ran? This is also only if my world isn't flipped upside-down from what just happened to me, and whether I'm even able to disclose this to anyone, AND whether the hospital has rape kits because that's another situation that fucks rape victims that I won't go into. One thing's for sure, I won't tell the dude who thinks my ass muscles are where my boobs are. Nassar(fucking his spelling) abused kids, imagine what he did to make them not talk. He *fingered them, groped them under their shirt, recorded them* and you're going "Ah, I don't know. I need to _see_ video evidence and to be there live to believe you. 100+ people saying this dude is a rapist doesn't cut it." Really? This is one of the most extreme cases, but if the person fits the actions, a person who gives no fucks about keeping their hands to themselves, then the accusation fits. Guilty instantly? No. Definitely look into this dude? Yes, jesus.

Zoeannaart -Zilahtov probably the huge difference between the two is that the former can get a lot of support from the industry they were in when they speak out, while the latter can only speak out when the likes of the former speak out, just to gain support. Sad but true.

Hi Phillip DeFranco! Im portuguese and just wanted to say thank you for reporting about the fires in Portugal! you did a fantastic job in so little time in reporting extremely accurately what is going on in Portugal and in Spain. It is true that these fires are caused by criminal hand. every year we have fires during the summer, but this outrageous and dramatic blazes this year where over the top. in a rare interview, with the portuguese police, one cop dare to expose that this is joint "terrorism" between an organized portuguese and Spanish criminal entity, in order to collect the millions of euros given by the public tender placed by both Portuguese and Spanish governments. what happens is that they take advantage over the desertification of the interior. by this I'm talking about the migrations of several generations that used to live in the interior of Portugal working the land and moved to the big cities in search of better lives and work. due to this shift the interior is full of abandoned plots of land that still belong to younger generations, but they have no connection to the older life style, because they grew up in the cities and therefor don't clean the terrains. they just use their ancestors houses in the interior for vacation. other probably don't even know they own anything. its just acres and acres of abandoned land. The eucalyptus is a tree that was brought to Portugal around the middle of the 1900 century, and it has been spreading like crazy. since. around 80% of the forest area in Portugal is (or was, I don't know now, with this devastation). it is mainly used for the production of cellulose, for the paper industry. it is highly controversial because its a very aggressive species the drains all the water form the ground and kills the native plants and trees from the area. Plus it hurts the rest of the native animals. birds don't nest on eucalyptus the branches aren't stable enough, and other animals cant eat their leaves for they are poisonous. when will we has a race start to understand that if we want to play God and rule over the planet, we should unite and take care of it... Portugal is a small example of the misery we are causing to our self's and the environment. when will we take the egocentric veil of greed and from our eyes and see that we are here to create balance, to live with nature, not from nature. sorry for the long comment. thank you for your work!

Saying this as an active FireFighter so please read. If you have any questions please ask as I would much rather help people know what they need to before they need it. 1) You need to decide in advance if you are staying or leaving. If you are going to stay, clear at least 10 meters around your house, make sure you have water and once the front comes get inside your home. If you are leaving, leave early. There is no such thing as leaving too soon, as fire can and will do things you will never ever expect (coming from a place of knowledge) 2) if you decide to stay, once the front has passed, and when it is safe to do so (cannot stress this enough. You need to make sure it is safe to go outside before you do) you need to get outside and put out any spot fires. Most houses that burn down during a fire, do not do so during the initial front. Most will burn down due to embers up and around the eve's. You need to make sure you are thorough and methodical, there is no harm in taking your time but there is in rushing. 3) If at any point while evacuating, you end up going through a thick amount of smoke, turn your lights onto high beam and drive slowly. I have had to go to many an MVA (motor Vehicle Accident) during a firefight due to someone not being seen and/or driving too fast. 4) Do not rely on a single source of information. During the Black Saturday fires (February 7th 2009 Victoria) , the CFA emergency system failed due to an over abundant influx of use. Now this is something that will hopefully never happen again, but due to people being reliant on the one source many did not receive the information they needed. If in doubt, most fire stations will have someone in the station to help out. But be aware they are extremely busy and most likely tired from being up for 2-3 days, so if you are rude to them expect to be told where to go. 5) Be ready before a fire happens. I already have my strike team bag packed, and the fire season for me has only just come into effect. Major fires can happen at any time. It does not have to be hot or dry for something to happen. Most Wildfires are caused by lightning strikes days before hand. 6) If you wish to help fight the fires at all, go down to your local FireStation with food or drinks. All fire staff will be tired, hungry and thirsty. So a plate of biscuits will go a long way. And make sure if the truck returns that you stay right out of the way. Every FireFighter around the world knows what they are doing, and have a system when it comes to re-stoking the truck, and the worst thing you can do is get in the way. Even if you mean well, you are not helping. Thankyou for reading this, as i said before. I want more people to be aware before hand and hope that this information can help someone in need.

There have died almost 100 people here, this year alone, due to fires (94 thus far), quite a few Portuguese people think that some of them were man-made (with ill intent) a few professionals even saying so on TV. The pictures of the first big fire (the one where 62 people died on 18/06/2017, are devastating). SIRESP was something funded by the previous government and here's the kicker: we can't sue SIRESP for not working, it says so in their contract, when that news came out everyone was pissed! Who would sign something like that?!? It's been horrible, my grandmother and aunt had to be evacuated, there's just not enough firefighters/ambulance/police to deal with this, the lines are dead so calling for help or to warn people to leave is impossible; the only reason they were evacuated was because the mayor rounded up people (regular citizens) to go help everyone and tell them to leave for the local gymnasium, they're coming to stay with us this weekend.

Couldn't agree more with Phil's "locked in a room filling with water" analogy... Really hope KZbin does something and I don't say this trying to just complain or be mean... But KZbin needs to quit putting so much effort into catering to Jimmy Kimmel and others like him who are famous from different platforms..... and start catering to the people like Casey, Phil all the smaller creators who made this platform so personal and special..... THOSE people give me the sense of relatability and community that I come back for. Not the Jimmy Kimmels who could careless about the KZbin community.

@TheDuoLive
@TheDuoLive 7 жыл бұрын
True... and if that's the case (it is a majorly beneficial business move) I can't blame them. But I would have to have some sort of direct confirmation that that's the case... BECAUSE despite KZbin kissing up to Jimmy Kimmel and others like him, trending them literally nonstop, he only gets roughly 70 million monthly views. SNL, another show youtube promotes like crazy on trending, gets even less monthly views than Kimmel... On the flip side you have non-traditional content creators like (and I hate to use this example but) Logan Paul who pulls 400 million views per month, over 5x Kimmel. Or you have OG youtubers like PewDiePie who KZbin has somewhat slandered, but even in these slower months is still pulling well over 200 million views per month and at his peak was in the 400 millions. Same with Casey Neistat who back in his regular months of uploading was pulling over double the views Kimmel has during his peak. So again. I have nothing against Tv shows as they are and I certainly can't speak if it's strictly a business move. A business has to be a business at the end of the day. But I question whether or not promoting these shows is strictly about vs just wanting to be relevant or some other agenda like taking over mainstream TV. When they could invest time in finding and promoting these unique creators that explode the platform, explode the numbers, and are the legitimate reason the giant hardcore KZbin community exists. Just my 2 cents and I definitely appreciate yours. Shines some like on another angle of the situation.
@TheDuoLive
@TheDuoLive 7 жыл бұрын
I should add Kimmel and SNL's numbers are still very impressive and look impressive to KZbin, but that's with them getting all the money they want from their efforts bypassing KZbin's Ad guidelines AND with YT constantly promoting them. Many of the other KZbinrs like Phil, H3H3, PewdiePie, Casey Neistat, Logan Paul have equally or way more impressive numbers and are being give all sorts of roadblocks by YT like mass demonetization or investing countless hours into making a viral video that KZbin will never trend.

I disclaimed that I was sent the box for review but was not being paid to make the video, as I always have for reviews and I have never had a problem until now. I did not cuss or show anything that could be considered slightly bad by anybody. The video is 100% family friendly and very lighthearted. I only make a small amount through KZbin but every penny counts. I have requested a review on the video but it will be a while because I have to wait for the video to reach 1000 views. I love KZbin and I would love nothing more than to do KZbin as a full time job but that dream is seeming harder and harder to reach, even if I do get the views.

As a Portuguese citizen let me say this: more than 300 active fires in our country is not just an "emergency"...it's chaos. but i'm sure these fires were purposely made, because of the big industry of wood, illegal construction sites and agriculture in Portugal, the buyers can buy wood for less than half-price, and company's can build on places that they were not supposed to, almost every Portuguese citizen knows this. it has been proven on past years. this is disgusting. I really hope you see this Philip, not many non-portuguese people know this. this has to be stopped. they are literally feeding on the misery of others.

That being said, I think that it is so sad that the only people being talked about in the news are those who have hurt 10, 20, 30 women. There are so many people in the industry that have abused 1 or 2 women but because it's just 1 or 2 that makes it more acceptable? A life is a life whether it be 1 or 50 women these people are still monsters and non of them should be exempted from the consequences.

As a gymnastics coach, I do want to defend USA Gymnastics here. They've taken this controversy very seriously, and now have an entirely new department dedicated to preventing sexual assault in the gymnastics community. All coaches already have to go through a lot of testing and training to even become a coach. We have always had to have a background check and must be safety certified before all of this happened. In the safety certification tests, there is an entire chapter on learning how to see signs of sexual abuse with coaches with the main focus being on "grooming" athletes. They recently have introduced the new "Safe Sport" program. We are going to be required to take these new tests within the next year in order to remain a part of USA Gymnastics. If these tests are not taken, then the coaches are not allowed on the competition floor and coaches will be fined and/or banned from the program. I know that one of the new rules in place is that no male authority figure is allowed to be left alone with a female athlete. A female authority figure must also be present. So, now if there is a male coach in the gym, a female coach must also teach the class with him. Also, if you didn't know, the CEO was forced to resign as well. It's sickening to know that a program I dedicated my life to allowed for such a thing to be swept under the rug. I am glad that something is being done about it, but it's obviously 30 years too late. I'm hoping the doctor gets life because of all the pain he's caused. I also wouldn't complain if he was set on fire as well.

aprilblenk yes I think you’re right. The “but it doesn’t hurt any less” was HER OWN opinion... basically she meant that he may have known that injury/death was a possibility when signing up for the military, but that doesn’t mean his death hurts any less. I think Phil misunderstood that.

It was my initial thought too but I trusted Phillip de Franco's explanation of the quotation because my first language is not English. I belevive that if the part of "it still hurts" was not intended to be a direct quotation of Donald trump then the meaning of what the lady said in both instances stays almost completely identical. One is just more colloquial than another.

I worked in the private sector and was sexually harassed at every job l had until after I turned 40. The harassment varied from words, to touch and threats. My only recourse at that time was to quit my job. When such conduct was reported, I was told that I was overly sensitive. I was told more than once that the men in question were under a lot of pressure and it was their way of blowing off steam. It was and is not just Hollywood, by any means.

My english teacher back in high school used to say the same thing. Made us write a couple essays on it. And it is possible that the implication is that 9 year olds and actresses create different dynamics just by virtue of their age, but I'd argue that Weinstein, for example, would have similar control over an actresses career to this doctor. Whether that's maintained through trust in their position, conditioning, or an understanding that these are the people who are capable of making or breaking your career. These are both subsets of people who are told that this is just how it is, and that rocking the boat is punished, because these people seem unassailable for one reason or another. I guess the TL;DR is this: Different demographic, same dynamic.

I’m from Portugal. It is scary. It’s happened twice in less than six months. Thankfully I’m not near the regions where it’s at it’s worse but there’s still no excuse to how these things are being handled. There was a HUGE fire less than six months ago. No procedures were put in place. Families still don’t have resources. The thing is this is not unusual. Every year we have fires like these. Every year it’s just: “Thank you to the fireman. Donate. We are sorry for your loss” from the government but there’s never a plan put in action. People were PUTTING OUT FIRE WITH WINE CAUSE THERES NO WATER. We have unnecessary submarines but we have very little fire fighter airplanes. The whole thing is sad and disgusting tbh... As far as terrorism goes: would not be surprised. We still (thankfully) haven’t been attacked so we’re always: when will it happen (which is terrifying). There’s lots of non terrorist bad people but this is too far. Winds help, yes, but it’s still too much. I’ve come to a point to where I don’t know what to say about this anymore.

I'm a combat veteran, for what that's worth. Fortunately, I survived with no injuries, but if I had died, it would be true that I knew the risks and accepted them. I accepted the possibility that death could come for me, and saying so isn't even slightly disrespectful (even given this circumstance). I think pointing that out only shines a light on the bravery of my brother. That being said, I hate that this is political story, the congress woman had no business dragging this offence taking into the public. Phil, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for covering the fire stories in Portugal, we've suffered way too much this year to fires and seeing our government do nothing and ignoring the issues after we've had one of the worst tragedies in our country's history only 4 months ago, where people were burned alive inside their cars trying to escape fires due to the governments program failing, it's good to know that people can hear us...

I am portuguese and these fires have been going on since I remember watching TV. We literally have a "fire season" during the summer. This year was by far the worse due to the climacteric conditions you´ve described. Every year it´s the same story. There are fires, acres and acres of forest are burnt, everyone is in shock, including the government, and after two months, when winter begins everyone forgets that fires ever existed (including the government), only to be reminded about them again the next summer. People love to throw blame around, to the paper industry, crazy people who just like fires, and negligence. And I do believe that these might be igniters of the fire, but the fact that there is no forest planning rules or control after decades and decades of this still baffles me. I really hope that the seriousness of what happened this year opens some eyes and triggers some change. Thank you very much for covering this story, maybe some international pressure will do some good

Thank you for talking about the Portugal fires. I had to hear my gf cry and scream in terror as her car was surrounded by fire, luckly she managed to get out safely. I never felt so powerless. Her parents almost died while trying to save their car shop even after both me and my gf repeatedly told them over the phone to get out and run (when we actually could get any reception at all). I don't know how nor why nobody died here in monção. It was something close of a miracle, it just doesn't seem real how anyone could do this (it was arson). A once beautifull place of green now lies black. My heart goes to all who have lost their relatives, who have lost their homes, who have lost it all to the fires. And to the F****** arsonists that weren't caught i hope the fires caught you, you C****. The lucky bastards arrested by the police. If it were the people who caught you wouldn't see a court.

Phil I think you took her (Wilson) tone of voice and what she was quoting the wrong way on the cnn interview, to me it sounded like she was saying: "I didn't hear the whole phone call, but I did hear him say; 'He knew what he was signing up for' and uh.. it still hurts". I think she cut off the quote at "up for", and that the "it still hurts" part is her referring to the fact that even though she didn't hear the whole call, it still hurts

About the fires, we in australia (particularly in victoria) know far too well the dangers of eucalyptus trees and a failed communication system in such emergencies. It feels just like yesterday that black saturday happened (if you don't know what that is search it up) and the communication systems failed that day and as a result people who were fleeing fires fled into the direction of other fires and thus lost their lives. After this failure, systems throughout the state were overhauled and tested to make sure it will all work when it matters the most. Hopefully they learn and either remove the faoled system over there or fix it so it will always be effective when needed.

Regarding the Portugal situation, I live in Portugal and the situation is a lot more scary from my inside perspective: The whole fire issue is not new to our country, but starting in June it became much more devastating, it started with a huge tragedy that caused countless families to loose everything and has escalated to 600 active fires (In a relatively small country) back on Monday. Our country is run by incompetent people who don't fullfil their promises to the people and this catastrophic situation just helps proving it, they claimed to rework the whole emergency fire protocol after the first tragedy and again the system has failed in the exact same way. The unbelievable part is that out of all the 600 fires and tragedies most of them were caused deliberately. We are a small country which economic state, which is already very fragile and weakened, is very dependable forests and agriculture to survive. Many families died, and our politicians keep on getting richer without dealing with it. I volunteered a week back in June to hand out supplies and deal with the families, but all the efforts we make especially the firefighters seem worthless to a government that considers it a game.

In the story about Portugal, I am Portuguese and I assure you every year there are this devastating fires, but there was never anything like that. With so many lost lives. For what have been seeing it is due to lack of organization by the people in charge. People who do not understand how to handle the situation at all. There were also quite a few system errors and failures. Firefighters have done so much with the conditions they are being subjected to work with. I just hope the government will stop whining, trying to figure out who is to blame and start doing something, because if things do not change, it is almost guaranteed that next year the fires will appear again.

Hi, Portuguese here. Thanks for covering my country. Truth is, we pretty much expect fires to occur during the summer every year. What's really shocking about it is the amount of deaths. The last time someone had died to the fires in Portugal before this year was in 2003, where we had 3 deaths. This year we've had over 100, so there's a good amount of sheer incompetence added into this whole situation.

Forest fires are a industry of millions in Portugal right now and it is sad. I live right next to one of the most affected areas and hearing about friends fighting for days to save their homes is just crazy... The wind was insane and made it so hard to keep things controlled.
