I have inspected several R32 GTRs where they start up exactly like this. When they start up the RPMs stay very low for a short period of time, almost to the point of stalling and then gradually rise to the proper idle RPM. The issue is that the oil pressure also stays low during this time and you hear a weird knocking for half a second. They seem to run and drive fine however, and compression is usually within spec. I would try to find one that starts normally.

Oil pumps don't prime...they are mechanical...and the low rpms at 1st start is only the iacv...wich is easily replaceable...or a vac leak...anyone who buys these...is going to restore it anyway...or go slide it into a wall....id rather make a badass street beast outta that white s15

i have a friend who has a 99 ek9 with 28,000 kilometers on it. it's been in the us since 2000 and was used as a show car. its been restored w new D2 coil overs, new motor mounts, fuel injector o rings, new tires, volk wheels, skunk 2 exhaust, skunk 2 (2) piece radiator hose kit, skunk 2 strut tower bar front upper and rear lower, flyudine radiator, new o2 sensor, nrg carbon fiber hood, those are the things i remember being done. the interior is super clean poss 9.5 or a 10 but does not have the original recaro seats and type r floor mats. if it cant be lagal it would be the best parts car for a ek9 brought back legally. wonder how much a car like this is worth.

Maybe a dumb question, but if you find another rough r32 and find no rust on inspection, would it be better to pick one of those up and source a shop (like yours) to repair it? Or is going for the middle ground on price/quality always the best option? Also I stare at the modified white r32 every day on the page. 😔

coming from someone who owns an old skyline, if it has no rust go for it and get a shop to go through the whole thing properly. Skylines love hiding rust in spots you wouldnt even think of, but its not often you find them anymore with how high the prices are going. So probably best to find one that's in the middle ground, but still send it to a shop and have them go through it anyway

Manual cars are supposed to have a clutch pedal start interlock. Meaning it will only crank with clutch pedal depressed.

People stateside aren't buying from auctions they're buying from resellers,and alot of resellers are lying about the condition of the cars they're selling. There are plenty of videos on KZbin about people that are selling these cars for more than what they're worth and going as afar as to fake inspection videos and even pay off auction officials to get better grades for their junk cars

All these cars are now 20+ years old. Not unusual for them to have had a few knocks. Not a problem if they are minor knocks. But with R grade it's difficult to tell when bidding half a world away.

I fear for low oil pressure on startup for that white r32 gtr - You're right it did sound weird at startup That faded 32 gtr had a nice exterior color though. The jzx sounded mean, I loved it. Fun long video and that black supra at the end was a nice pic :)

I had a 1990 240sx and not the hatch(180sx), it was as close as I could get to a true S13 without giving up my first born lol. It only had the ka24e but was still a dream to drive. r32 and s14 at the begining of the vid, two really important things you didn't check was before you started them they were in neutral or not, should sit in them with clutch depressed and foot covering brake,having first checked there is a firm feeling brake pedal , was one of the first things taught when moving cars/bikes some 43 years ago

the european cars need the clutch to be depressed but the japanese cars dont, if the handbrake is up and it is in neutral, just start it, no big deal.
