As a factory-trained Ammco service tech I've collected a decent amount of genuine Ammco parts over the last 40+ years. I'm retiring and have a parts inventory list if you are interested.

@@handydandyupgradesinc7164 what kind of grease to use in the crossfeed and the drum brake gearbox?
@handydandyupgradesinc71642 жыл бұрын
@@nathan484848 thanks for the call. I want to put this here - for colder climates use a thin brown grease like for barrings. In colder climates the grease can thicken and you want a nice thin grease.

Could you make a video on some of the options to modify the ammco 4000 to accept larger brake rotors? I know the gold option is your power feed but it is expensive. I have seen other options like changing the lead screw nut and changing the twin cutter platform. There may be pros and cons though.
@MakingStuffUp14 жыл бұрын
Its in the works to do a series of videos on cutting the big stuff. The extension plate is not stable enough in my opinion. Tends to have chattering issues. Excellent question. Short answer is it comes down to stability of both the rotor/drum and the cutting tooling. Turning rpm too.At some point in the future Im thinking of doing a variable main drive motor upgrade or make some better pulleys Slowing down the arbor speed is a must at like 16 inch diameter.

Hi how are you doing ? I have an AMMCO BRAKE LATHE. And it does not have a motor to feed the disc cutting knives table is that a normal thing or does this one have a missing part? And if I need parts for my machine would you have a recommendation for a place to get some?

My gearbox keeps slipping out of gear in fast speed only, literally have to use a silencer band to hold it in gear....the shifter handle is tightly secured to shaft but there seems to be considerable play inside the gearbox. What part do I look to replace in the gearbox ?
@handydandyupgradesinc71642 жыл бұрын
First thing to look at is the shifter. The only thing holding it in gear is the spring in the shifter handle. If its sticky it wont hold it in gear. Some times its the shifter plate is worn or miss aligned. If that doesn't solve it call me.

Do you know if the long and short Lead Screws are interchangeable on the drum box?
@handydandyupgradesinc71643 жыл бұрын
They are interchangeable in the gear box BUT the length is important on the machine itself. You cant use a 4000 drum feed screw in a 4100. A 4100 screw can be used in a 4000, but only if it is cut carefully to length and dress the threads properly.

Question: I noticed your trap gear drive rod has slots running all along the entire rod. My rod has slots that stop short about 2 inches from the end. Do i need to get a newer rod like yours for longer travel or are they the same? Also would i then need a newer coupler as well? Yes i'm already getting a longer the longer slide bar and i will reverse the feed nut.
@sinned963 жыл бұрын
Why is the feednut backwards the lip should slip in the case. That keeps the feednut centered. The screws don't really keep it centered correctly
@sinned963 жыл бұрын
I don't know how many customers call me complaining that hey it doesn't go into gear it keeps skipping out. My first question is you didn't take it apart did you? They're like no we didn't take it apart. I remove the Box off the the machine and take it apart and that gear talking about they put in backwards but they swear they never took it apart. I'm like the factory doesn't put this in backwards

My ammco brake disc feed doesn’t work when I turn it with the knob unless I pull and push it but when I put it in gear slow or fast the knob turns on its own but the disc feed shaft itself stays in place it won’t move on it’s own
@handydandyupgradesinc71644 жыл бұрын
sounds like the roll pin in the trap shaft has fallen out. its a easy fix. Remove disk feed box and replace the roll pin. it might also be just unscrewed from the trap shaft coupling. this happens when someone leaves it in gear and whines out the feed screw.

Your vid says use lots of grease. What kind of grease or does it matter?
@MakingStuffUp14 жыл бұрын
Soft grease is what I like. We are looking for smooth action. The harder stuff has issues when it gets really cold. Molly greases tends to break sheer gears when its really cold. The drum feed gearbox wont work well with harder grease. There are trade offs with the soft stuff too. The juice runs out in hot climates. The soft brown stuff or the soft blue stuff seems to work pretty well. White lithium grease is nice for sliding parts.
