My first impression was "He's wearing a shop coat, he's not from here," :). I bet your wife appreciates that too, we don't seem to wear shop coats here, just get sawdust in our jeans and carry it into the house! Many noticed all the equipment in the shop that you have but I say "Look at the man-- he appears to be over, say, 35; therefore he's had a few years to accumulate them. Say your 20ish, you will have the next 15 years to make/buy your collection of tools. It doesn't happen over night. And this man is seriously into wood work, which most of us in our garage shops aren't. So we use what tools we have now, and add more as we gain more experience and hopefully more income to afford better." I really liked the editing, and your doing the work instead of giving long explanations about what your going to do. Thanks for your video.

I second this comment. I started off approx 5 years ago and I had no tools except for a dewalt impact and drill my dad gave me. from there I bought and sold many tools, ended up with a job. moved my tools a few times from shop to shop. and Now have quite a few tools. I have a drill press that will outlast me, the mitre saw I dreamt of owning. a wood lathe thats better than I need it to be and a metal lathe that I havent wired up yet lol. The point is. youll get there. start off with projects that you CAN do with the tools you do have. or do what I did and pick projects where you need one mpre new tool to complete. Thats how I ended up with quite a few great cordless tools 😅

Great result but many details needed by prospective DIY builders not provided. How are the discs attached to the drive shafts? How did you achieve a low 0.01 mm run out? Why the serpentine belt running with grooves outermost? What is the RPM of the discs?

@rogerhodges7656
@rogerhodges7656 8 жыл бұрын
He didn't use glue. He used a hard, sticky wax. It grips firmly but will peel right off for easy paper replacement. You can purchase it in paper/cardboard tubes. If you apply it while the sander is running, the friction will help spread a soft sticky layer across the disk. turn off, stick your sandpaper into place and you are ready to go. Most disk sanders use cloth backed papers for ease of removal.

First off awesome work! I have been messing with a design of my own for the same exact tool! Question for you if I may - One thing I've been a bit apprehensive about is the speed of the motor. The one I have came off an old 6 inch jointer that I no longer need. It spins at right around 3200 RPM and my gut reaction is that it'll just be too darn fast! LOL Do you happen to know what RPM your motor is spinning at?
@FromTheWood
@FromTheWood 5 жыл бұрын
My engine is 3200 rpm, but I reduced to half the disk speed with two pulleys. one is half of another.

i mean, if you have it, use it. i know for a fact he didnt NEED all of those tools, mount the wheel on the motor to lathe it out, you dont need a table saw, you can do whatever you can on a table saw with a mitre, band or skill saw, it just takes more skill and you will get less precise cuts. hell you could even use a hand saw if you wanted. you dont need to plane the wood, but it sure makes it look nicer, all you need is a saw, a chisel, a drill, a square and a measuring tape. you can use longboard wheels instead of the storebought or lathed out ones he has. think brother, theres always a cheaper solution to everything.
@aserta
@aserta 7 жыл бұрын
Actually, you can do all he did with a dual sided bimetal hacksaw (wood teeth and metal teeth), a screw driver, and a basic drill. I know, because that's what i did in school when our shop sander bit the dust in metal flames. I was so pissed off at the moron who did it, that i channeled my anger in making a new one. Only difference between mine and his, is that mine used rock sand paper (quartz particulate), much, much harsher. Alas, another idiot nearly scraped his finger off, and thus, the disc sander had to be dismantled as it was deemed "not safe".
