Could you not just cut the top bit off where the lock is m, leaving the bar in place but still using a padlock ?
@PeoplesCarАй бұрын
@@scorcha100 The bar goes through the hole where the padlock is fitted so not sure how could have both? Maybe I'm missing understanding? 🤔👍
@scorcha100Ай бұрын
@ i meant the rectangular arm which the bar slides through therefore cutting the bar out but leaving the arm in place
@PeoplesCarАй бұрын
@scorcha100 oh I see what your saying, maybe so. I don't think would have worked with the particular lock I was using as so chunky but a smaller one maybe. Also the arm would have been annoying to a theif but its strength compromised and probably become easier to bend out the way. But definitely a good idea and worth a try before whipping the whole thing off. 😊👍

Now they can drive with it on
@PeoplesCar Жыл бұрын
Nah. It would be impossible in an old classic as the steering is so heavy and the cover doesn't clamp tight on the wheel, just spins loosely. I guess maybe possible in something superlight and modern but would be a real task. 😊👍

I have one, nice bit of kit. The issue I have a where to store the bugger when driving the car. It does rattle around unattended, so I wondered if a suitably sized box/pouch under the dash would work.
@PeoplesCar2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I can imagine it's rattly and annoying and hard to store! I think the solution is to have an even louder and more rattly and annoying car and you'll never even notice....the ratrod! LOL 😅 Rather than the bug it will prolly be used on the Ratrod as that won't even have doot locks!

More to the point of most importance is what do you do when it's still on your steering wheel ?
@PeoplesCar3 ай бұрын
@@blondee_xx3049 If you have the code on the netalbtag that came with the keys you can order a new set of keys. Coukd try drilling the lock-out. Failing that I guess Angle Grinder. You can see how the Mechanism works I this vid. Just protect your interior, it will make a rough rusty melty mess of everything if you don't. Best of luck 😊👍

Why didn't you just drill two holes in the arm and put a padlock through to secure the pin in position? You then haven't lost the arm security feature
@PeoplesCar Жыл бұрын
The clasp on my padlock which is suppose to be a high security wasn't long enough as is guarded, unless I cut it right back, and I just figured they would bend it off or out the way with only 2 sides of the arm to keep it rigid, so was a neater solution. Like I say at the start it is only as secure as the padlock. I suspect propper theives will just carry a cheap battery grinder these days and the hinges would be gone in 10 seconds either way. So it's just a deterrent for joyrider really. 😊👍
@absenteeatom Жыл бұрын
@@PeoplesCarYes, I thought that might be the reason. As you say, it's a deterrent, so putting it on without a padlock will work to some extent

All competent theifs already know how to get past these devises in seconds, and probably have a battery grinder to chop through any security they want anyway. IMHO all these security devices do is stop casual opportunist theives or joy riders from quickly stealing something when are unprepared with little more than a screwdriver and this video wouldn't help them. Tx for watching 😊👍

Ok but cutting the arm off is getting rid of its security feature that makes the car very hard to drive if it's still fitted.
@PeoplesCar2 жыл бұрын
It would be impossible to drive the car, or at least my cars with it fitted. It's not a tight fit and just spins freely on the steering wheel. Maybe something super modern with featherlight steering I'll give you that. 🙂👍
@fixityourself1111 Жыл бұрын
Thinking about it, you could recreate the arm by fabricating a bit a steel to notch in where the lock goes, either jams in when the lock closes or put a hole in one end L section it and thread it onto the padlock so its linked through...it will then stick out causing hassle to turn it all if turned.
@PeoplesCar Жыл бұрын
I like that idea thanks for the thought. As above I think it may apply for a more modern vehicle where the steering is feather light but on my old classics you would have no chance trying to steer it fitted. The wheel is not tight in the lock and too hard to turn. To be fair you could weld arms onto the lock pretty much anywhere on the case with a similar effect. I guess when making this vid I kind of didn't really consider viewers outside the classic car scene which is where my channel focuses. So great idea, just wasn't worth the extra effort for my basic intended use, awesome feedback tho! thankyou 🙂👍
