For me it was really odd and for me that would be something I would do if I was trying to do as racist film as possible. But hey, 10 out of 10 Oscard worthy Masterpiece

What I find most amusing is the intellectual inconsistency of some of the arguments; the way that the commentor would disagree with themself if you asked them a question using their own logic. This whole "no culture groups are superior or inferior" thing is a load of horse shit, because of you asked them "do you think nazis are inferior to wakandans", Im pretty confident the answer would be "well of course", but that opens up a whole can of worms, because now we've established a culture CAN be inferior based on its traits - so superior and inferior cultures exist; a culture can have characteristics that make it worse than other cultures, and so you characteristics can improve or degrade a culture. Or maybe they would really say nazis and wakandans are equal, Idk. But that seems dubious, if you ask me.

Yeah, it really comes down to the fact that many people find it difficult to admit that some cultures (fictional and real) are just objectively better than others. Some cultures result in higher standards of living, resilience against external threats, famine, etc... and then, well, ya know... some cultures breed rhinos for milk.
@something73110

The problem is that the real world is grey. I think most people grasp the concept of a culture being better than another. But the problem is that the examples used to prove this concept are hardly ever applicable to the subject at hand. Say for example a culture that approves abortion and another that doesn't. Which is the better culture. Applying the concept of one culture being better than another is not at straight forward in this context. And unfortunately, most of the time you'll encounter this concept is in cases where it's not straight forward how it fits into the problem
@othertalk3313
@othertalk3313 Ай бұрын
@@something73110 Yeah, that's true when you look at individual pieces of a culture (views on abortion in your example), but most of that grey goes away when you zoom out and look at cultures as a whole. And that's what really matters, I think, because nobody lives in a world where one individual piece carries 100% of the weight. People will put more or less importance on any given piece, but it'll never be the only thing that matters. People will also undervalue things that are important but harder to pinpoint. "You don't know what you've got til it's gone" kinda things.

The Australian government has posted signs everywhere telling us lowly plebs that we walk upon the sacred ground of The First Empire, which according to government spokesmen was founded five hundred thousand years ago by aboriginal people who somehow just appeared and never conquered others or did anything wrong. This would totally overthrow everything we know not just about history but prehistory as well, as modern humans weren't even around 500 000 years ago. The government has ruled that this is super true and only a nazi would doubt it, so for the record I would say I love The First Empire and recognise my innate racial inferiority.

The Trial by combat COULD work of they spun it like... The king is also the black panther and must prove he has the strength and power to protect wakanda HOWEVER That would then necessitate an external threat that would invalidate Wakanda's status as this pinnacle of society and technological advancement
@trevorsalamander8711
@trevorsalamander8711 Ай бұрын
The trial by combat would play best as heir to the Black Panther, imagine if Kill monger won the position and now TChalla had to deal with a revenge crazy killer but was actually being clever and turning people against the King.
@VerilyViscous
@VerilyViscous Ай бұрын
Or it could have become ceremonial. At one time in the past, it was an integral part of how they chose a new leader. As time went on, eventually the actual combat was done away with and the old king would yield to the new king as a show that the new king was "better" than the old king. Perhaps it didn't mean much but was kept around because that was how they always did it and the Wakandans were proud of their history and traditions. Then Killmonger comes around and actually wants to kill T'Challa and that screws up everything.
@gottesurteil3201
@gottesurteil3201 Ай бұрын
They could have made the trial by combat be one of those old laws that weren't observed for centuries but still would be binding in the right circumstances. What if Killmonger got the approval of a noble house that hated the current king, and their sway would be enough to invoke the trial by combat? Have the rule be that the challenger must be of the same bloodline and backing from enough of the nobility.

I believe some famous astronomer once said that humankind will never colonize the galaxy. What he meant was that in order to colonize the galaxy, we would require a sense of cohesion that could only come about by enormous positive changes to our morality, ethics, and how we treat one another, and at that point, we would be so different from how we are now that either we could no longer call ourselves human, or we would consider all past generations less than human. Of course he was speaking of culture and societal norms, not biology. There's nothing really wrong with saying that a certain culture is incapable of achieving a certain living standard. No one could possibly say that the Americans of 1824 could create the America of 2024. Not only is there an intellectual gap, but there is a moral gap that covers suffrage, slavery and genocide. While I don't think the commenter is correct in what he accuses EFAP of claiming, he should understand that not all cultures are equal. Cultures evolve. Some are just in different stages of their evolution than others. Reality itself is evidence of this. Trust your own eyes.
@reptarcar
@reptarcar Ай бұрын
While i do think ur comment is very interesting and thoughtful, that astronomer was talking out his ass lol. All humanity needs to colonize the galaxy are the same things we needed to colonize our whole planet. The will, the technology and the time. The culture we go to the stars with will be irrelevant, and we'll be inventing new and seperate cultures wen we're faced with the immense distances just like we always have. The only thing that will stop us is if we become extinct. And we'll look back on our ancient ancestors the same way we always have too, as fellow humans that lived in very different times with different challenges. His view just sounds extremely narrow minded, more like he was projecting his own ideal outcome rather than making an insightful prediction.

I liked Black Panther for what it was, in spite of it's many problems. It definitely wasn't the best it could be and I certainly agree with the vast majority of Wolf and Mauler's criticisms for it. As it stands, I agree with Gary of Nerdrotic's stance on the movie by saying it was ok. It's not unbearable nor is it awful. It just crosses into ok territory. That said, the radical extremists in the media and social media have soured me on the movie, taking an otherwise ok movie and turning it into an overrated movie for how much they pandered to this movie and bullied people for not agreeing with them. Like seriously, calm down. There's very few movies I would consider as flawless masterpieces. Even the best MCU movies (which I absolutely adore) I don't consider flawless.

Black Panther taps into the Afro-futurism movement which is interesting but weird and pretty esoteric. It's a creation of African diaspora especially African Americans, not really a thing in Africa itself. Prior to Black Panther it was largely confined to the music industry, it didn't really have any significant literary or movie roots. It's philosophical, more about ideas and cool imagery, that's why it's a bit superficial and lacks the foundation for decent world-building.

Just to be clear: Hitler was *not* a good painter. He was very amateurish and bland. His perspective and proportions were wonky and all over the place.

Hey Wolf, do you want to cool in a bit with the inflammatory titles? It's veering into slop rage bait when you guys spend most of the video calmly discussing it instead of sounding like your Nerdrotic or Doomcock tisming out over people's dumb takes on the internet as a personal front. I know it's probably harder to title these clips from the older episodes but still there's gotta be something better.

It's about a comment that called Mauler a white supremacist for criticizing Black Panther. Why do they need to scream and flail in response to such a cartoonish accusation to validate the title?

Thinking that starvation in Africa is not a consequence of white cononialism is completely delusional. This podcast is filled with ignorant snobs who could use a history book or two.

Mauler seems to be the only one that isn’t a closeted racist desperately trying and ailing to contain their bigotry before it becomes too obvious. Not that it wasn’t before

It's a shame that despite giving them money to take away the people they didn't want they still managed to squander their resources.

Ethiopia sent away all the white farmers and they immediately started starving. They are in a hell of their own making.
