@Locutus5 жыл бұрын
I thought Bob was very on point with this video. I agreed with nearly everything he said. Linear TV is becoming less important. Netflix is still brand building, and that's why with 100m+ subs, they are still losing money because they need content. Now with Disney, who already has the brand and the content, a 6.99 service is nothing! Disney+ doesn't have to spend billions on programming, when its parent already has/does. If Disney+ was a separate business, and had to create its own content, it would not be profitable. Just remember, content-is-king!
@Acuepk5 жыл бұрын
You might want to keep in mind that Netflix is actually a VERY old streaming service compared to all the other ones out there now (10+ years because I definitely remember it was already existing back in 2007 or 08), and it actually had a lot of film content. But I don't think many people liked Netflix to begin with because they were always taking away and replacing content in their library all the time. The only reason why most original subscribers stayed with Netflix in the years past was because that was the ONLY streaming service out there until other ones like Amazon Prime and Google Play started popping up in recent years and made it a lot easier for people to pay only for what they wanted to see instead of charging a flat rate monthly or yearly subscription fee. Either way, I don't see Disney trying to compete in the streaming industry like Amazon Prime anyway. Their just making it easier for their already huge fan base to access their own content because of all the (internet connected) technology out there now like Iger mentioned. Plus, the fact that they're offering it at such a low rate says a lot about this too that they don't need to compete or make more money than they already are (and have been for many years).
@Locutus5 жыл бұрын
@@Acuepk I use my sister's Netflix and Prime account, and I would not pay for Prime or Netflix otherwise. I just don't see the content I want to see. I want to be able to see Disney, Fox, Universal, etc, stuff all in one place. I don't mind paying for it, but I just want one service, not 5 different services. This is why Apple and Spotify have been successful with music, they had such a vast catalogue of songs to download. I use KZbin for my music, because it has lots of EDM, stuff that you won't find on Spotify or Apple. I don't mind paying for a music service like KZbin because it has all of my EDM on it. But as soon as you start splitting it all up, it makes no sense, and piracy starts. The more fragmented the streaming services become, the more rampant piracy becomes.

Some ideas I had for original Disney+ content - 1. Tron - The most obvious choice. A live-action series with a budget like The Mandalorian could be huge. 2. Kingdom Hearts - Disney are missing a trick if they don't make a Kingdom Hearts series. Could be completely animated but a hybrid of Live-action and traditional animation would be a bigger deal and is very on brand for Disney. 3. Musicana - A series that acts as a sequel to Fantasia. They were working on this as a movie decades ago. Turn it into a series. 4. Darth Maul - Big budget live-action series. Bring back Ray Parks for the role. Base it on the Marvel Comics mini-series from a few years ago. 5. Jiminy Cricket - A docuseries inspired by David Attenborough but with Jiminy as the narrator instead. Could focus on nature or exploring different cultures around the world. 6. Tim Burton stop-motion series - A series of stand-alone stop-motion episodes. Similar to Netflix's 'Love, Death and Robots' but it will be stop-motion. Each episode has a different creator but Tim Burton produces all. 7. Dinosaurs - Bring back the 90's ABC series Dinosaurs for a new season. Work with Jim Henson company again. 8. Newsies - Live-action series based on the musical/film. Will have big musical dance and song numbers in each episode. Basically appeal to the High School Musical and Glee crowds. 9. Willow - Get Lucasfilm to make a Willow series that acts as a sequel to the original movie. Warwick Davis returns as Willow. 10. Wizards of Mickey - Animated series based on the Disney comic of the same name. 11. Frontierland - Live-action Western series. Think cowboy version of 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. 12. The Kingdom Keepers - Series based on the book series from Disney publishing where the attractions at Disney come to life. Film it at real Disney parks. 13. Prince Charming - Live-action comedy series that satirises fairytale tropes and makes fun of Disney in a playful way. Think Shrek. 14. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit - Animated series. Time to turn this character into a brand. 15. Medfield College - Live-action series set at the college. Retell the stories of The Absent Minded Professor, The Shaggy DA, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, Now You See Me Now You Don't, and other classic Disney movies that were all set at the college. 16. Knights of the Old Republic - Another live-action Star Wars series. 17. Disney Rabbits - Animated series for pre-schoolers, based on the successful book series from Disney Publishing that is based on Thumper. 18. The Love Bug - Live-action series reboot. Inspired by the 'Bumblebee' movie in terms of tone and visuals. 19. Bedtime Stories - Live-action series inspired by the movie and by The Princess Bride. A grandparent tells their grandchild a story which we see play out on screen, with the story being different in each episode. 20. Sequels to low-budget movies - Hocus Pocus 2, Princess Diaries 3, Sky High 2, National Treasure 3, Sister Act 3 - bring back original casts for all of them. 21. Other animated series ideas - Pandora, Barsoom, Zootopia, It's a Small World, The Three Cabarellos, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Frankenweenie, Hit Monkey, G-Force, Mary Poppins, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, and Monkey Island.

We are for the first time, cutting out the middle man of cable/movies/streaming services and collecting the data and money directly from our consumers. @@franklingoodwin Lol they pay taxes by creating thousands of jobs where the employees pay income tax and then VAT and other taxes based on their consumption. Obviously American companies pay more tax in America because that is where their shareholders are and the Parent Company HQ. Also US has lost trillions because of their own homegrown companies setting up subsidiaries in low tax jurisdictions to keep their international profits outside the US and being taxed at the higher corporate rates. Trump lessened the rules and companies like Amazon and Apple have started bringing offshore money back home and investing it in new office expansion in major cities and also on share buybacks.

Not much, the cinemas will likely show the movies for 3 months before they reach Disney+. The only problem Disney will have is that fewer people will pre order Disney movies on ITunes and Google Play if they know they can wait a few months for them to be available on Disney +.
@Sam195095 жыл бұрын
@@franklingoodwin he literally says in the interview that the content will be available on Disney+ at the same time as other alternatives the minute the theater/exhibition window has closed. A Disney+ subscriber is more profitable then one customer who purchases a blu-ray disc or downloads one film. And it will soon be more than worthwhile for that latter customer to subscribe to Disney+ than buy content separately. This is literally like Apple Music growing while itunes demand shrinks but it still serves a profitable purpose.

They're planning to spend $1billion a year on original content, plus they'd need to cover the lost revenue they'd get from licensing the content to other streaming services, plus whatever the costs are to keep the service running. I think about $15-20m subscribers worldwide is what they need to cover all costs each year. Anything above that is pure profit, and they should easily hit above that. They're aiming for 90m subscribers worldwide within the first 5 years and I don't see why they wouldn't hit that number with ease.
