Fainting is so scary. I remember the first time I fainted when I was nine, it was bad. Before actually falling over, my eyesight began to get fuzzy and my head felt like a million pounds. The images in front of me began to become more fuzzy until I couldn't make out anything. Next thing I knew, I woke up and I was on the ground being attended to by bystanders and my parents. I remember my Mom had tears in her eyes. You don't even feel yourself falling. That's the scary part for me. Second time I did it, I had a concussion and almost had to go to the hospital. I got sick and threw up later that day, but I felt better afterwards. I hope the actor was okay and made it out with no serious damage.

I'm very late to this. But the reason why they don't take the head off is because the performer is wearing a chin strap in the head to help secure and stabalize the head. Trying to remove it would only cause further injury to the neck and spine by just "taking it off".

I’m surprised they don’t have a “help me” signal. I used to be a character performer for a different theme park and we had a sign/pose we would use as a signal to our handlers if something was seriously wrong and we had to go backstage (medical emergency, costume malfunction, threats from guests, etc), we were all trained how to do it and how to look out for it and what steps you need to take during an emergency. Of course the guests don’t know what the signal is, it’s just between the characters and the attendants, and in my experience all characters are watched like hawks by the attendants who essentially act as the eyes/ears/voice of the character when interacting with guests. Not sure how this works for parades, they seem to be more hands off here, which is unfortunate since it leaves the characters exposed and alone in front of huge crowds without an easy way out if an emergency should arise (and sadly it happens more often than you’ll know. so many characters have had heat exhaustion or heat strokes or something similar).

Poor thing. Heat exhaustion and probably needing electrolytes. I played Tigger, Goofy, Genie, Baloo, Launchpad, and Follo and Toy Soldier in Parades. Those costumes are so hot. You’re soaked when you get out of them and need a lot of water. Tigger is basically wearing a tight fur coat in the summer. It’s unbearable. At least Baloo and Genie have rings to make their shapes bigger and keep the cloth off your skin. Tigger is a full skin tight bodysuit and it’s horrible. AND you have to basically constantly do jumping jacks because he a hyper character. I HATED when I had to do him. He’s super cute and cuddly, but geeze he’s uncomfortable.

Honestly sad asf… they are not allowed to break character. A Mickey Mouse member was fired because she was attending a Disney college party and was pushed in the pool, she took of the head and was fired because of it.. she almost drowned which is why she took the head off. Smh

Another KZbin commentor has suggested blocking the character entirely from public view or putting some type of cooling system into the suits. Thats a great idea as it both saves their life and preserves the magic of the characters and Disney. Otherwise you'd ruin the show for kids and some little kids would be asking "Why is there a human in that teddy bear?" or "Why is there a human in Mickey/Minnie?"

Probably was sick, and also probably not used to that heat. At Florida, I feel like this would be less likely to happen, plus the fact that Tokyo Disney wants it to seem perfect, and actually isn't run fully by Disney, Disney is just a partnership, you could say. I feel like Disney would have handled the situation better, but Tokyo just didn't know that they should do it, poor person. I hope they're okay.

In another shot of this a security guard has to calm down and reassure a crying little girl. This is why masks should be taken off immediately. Not only is the worker in a health crisis but the kids see what seems like an animal dying. All they have to do is say that specific character was sick that day and couldn’t come in. So a human filled in. The kids are young enough to believe it

Context: This was a Disney show about to end/starting and then this character seems off, it started looking like she was gonna fall, she tried staying still, she also tried just sitting still with legs, later she couldn’t take it anymore and fells and fainted unconscious, she was took inside and she threw up all over the costume, she was also banned and fired for ruining the “show” bc this could have been a fav children’s character. I’ve had a heatstroke before and it is so scary. You can’t stand, you’re hearing is muffled, you can barely talk and barely see anything. To feel that and be in a hot, furry costume would be absolute hell. I feel so sorry for her. It’s so stupid that they’re not allowed to take off her headpiece so she can actually breathe. In all honesty the person who got hired could have something wrong on the inside, so issues like this where they faint, they shouldn’t even be hired to play the costumed character in the first place… (I heard they are sweaty in there but the fact people like this are hired who can’t be in the sun too long…That poor person… 😔 The fact they don’t even help them until she’s just on the ground too, checking on them is more important than “staying in character”. 😔 (It’s so unfortunate they couldn’t even take the mask off to let them breathe…)

I heard Cantonese, this might happened in Hong Kong. And to faint is pretty… that don’t always have to be them being sick or something, that’s most possibly a heat exhaustion. As a person from hk, Hong Kong can get hot, like 35+ degrees in summer. And getting heat exhaustion is not uncommon, especially when she/he is in a mascot. However, wish that it really is just a heat exhaustion and not something more serious
