Disney Cruise Fish Extender Haul!

My husband and I went on our first Disney cruise last Fall. Our son is in college and so we went without him. Prior to sailing, we discovered that one of my husband’s former colleagues would be on our sailing. She has twin daughters who are around 7 years old. We weren’t doing FE, but I was super excited to do pixie dust for the girls. I was especially excited because as the mother of a son Disney princesses weren’t big in my house. In order to try and figure out the girls’ interest we looked at the family’s Facebook page. The girls had just gotten their own individual rooms and their mom posted video tours of each of their rooms which were themed. Their themes were Disney. One was Star Wars and the other was Power Rangers. Not a princess in sight 😦. I was so disappointed initially, but I got over it. I had so much fun putting their Pixie Dust bags together and they got such a kick out of them. I didn’t even raid my son’s bins of action figures, although I did think about it.

Pixie Dusting is the best and the most fun to do! We love that it is random and no structure to it. However we focus our pixie dusting on crew members. We started doing it couple of cruises ago on a Halloween on the High Seas trip, where we handed out candy bags to random crew members. Like the lady vacuuming hallway or the man painting the railings, etc. It was the most fun. They were so happily surprised because it's easy to get caught up and over look those that work just as hard to make our cruise incredible. I think we handed pixie dust to about 75 crew members that time. So fun...we now make it a tradition. 😊💕

@@LeggLife ...by the way Darren, the cruise director on your recent cruise was our cruise director on the Wonder my daughter ran over to him to pixie dust him, and in return he pixie dusted her back. Later that evening when we returned to our stateroom, there were 4 chocolate dipped Mickey rice krispie treats with a small note from him! So much fun to go back and forth like that with the crew. And the lady vacuuming, clutched her face in shock that she was pixie dusted and said "for me???" as if she had typically gone unnoticed. Kindness goes along way. 💕🙏🏻

So glad you guys liked your gifts! Also glad you liked the jewelry....not everyone has the same taste, so I always worry when giving it as a gift to someone I don't know. (That's amazing that the earrings matched your ears!!). I WAS able to identify the chocolate moose you gave me, even though it needed a little surgery, lol! The funny thing about doing the FE group was that I had to check an entire 2nd bag just for the gifts, thinking that on the way home I could put my smaller checked bag into the larger checked bag so I would only have one to check, but due to receiving FE gifts (and a little shopping), I still ended up checking 2 bags on the way home (insert sad face). The beads are called Perler Beads :) My kids love them too! We have only been on one cruise 4 yrs ago and we loved participating in the fish extender exchange too! We received a few things that we still use to this day. I had a blast making a variety of items for the families in our group: personalized tumbler cups for the kids themed to their fave characters (made decals with my Silhouette), delicate necklaces for the women with little pearls wired together in the shape of Mickey, Sundae kits of toppings for the free ice cream, Sunglasses with rhinestone Mickeys on the side, Key chains for the dudes. This video makes me want to participate in an adults only exchange!

We really have enjoyed the adult only exchanges! We have yet to have a group that we didn't enjoy. It's always so much fun to get your gifts together to give and to see what you receive!

Every time you guys talk about the Fish Extender, it makes me want to do a cruise JUST to participate! My husband and I used to do a foodie pen pals program where we would get matched with a person every month and would send them a package with different locally found foods. This reminds me of that program, I wish we still did it, and FE sounds like the perfect way to get our "fix"!

I loved watching your adventures, you guys got some awesome gifts, l don't do the fish extender but l pixxie dust every mouseketeers stateroom at night that has a fish extender basket on their fish hook as l will hit doors with maganets that don't have a fish extender ... Wow! You guys got such cool gifts! Our favorite was the Haunted Mansion scented diffuser oil, how fun! The sauces were also a great gift, sounds yummy. The key card would be handy to take when traveling in Europe as well since many of the hotels have that similar light system. Enjoy all your goodies 😊

I'm about ready to "pull the trigger" for a Disney Cruise for April 2020! I've been daydreaming about cruising for years and watching your videos and having folks comment on my comments here have pushed me to the "LET'S DO IT!" phase! Jewelry is an awesome idea for FE gifts! I'm thinking this will be our one and only cruise, so I want it to be the best possible. Which would you recommend, Eastern or Western Carrabian? How exciting! We've never done an Eastern or Western Caribbean cruise, however we just booked an Eastern for January 2020 and we're SO excited to experience it! We LOVE that you're starting with a 7 days cruise, I think that will give you a good amount of time to enjoy all that the ship has to offer, as well as enjoying your ports.

I think it depends on what port you're sailing out of. If you're sailing from Port Canaveral and you're flying in to Orlando, there are A LOT of Disney options around there to buy gifts (we love Target, WalMart, Disney Outlet, Etc) however some of the other ports may be a little more difficult.

Hmm, that's a good question and we actually go back and forth on that. If I had to decide, I would probably say no, simply because there can be so many things to see and take in on your first cruise that I could see FE being an added responsibility that may cause you to miss something else. That being said, we've heard from A LOT of people who did it on their first cruise and who loved it. So, I don't think there is a right or wrong answer here, I think it depends on each person.
