Walt Disney loved Eleanor's performance so much in Cinderella that he wanted her for the part of Maleficent while Sleeping Beauty was in production. She originally turned him down because she had a case of tuberculosis and was weakened. She recovered of course, and gave life to Maleficent. (I learned this on the sleeping beauty commentary, as Andreas Deja was speaking because he had visited with her many times and she told him the story)

Honestly, Maleficent is one of my favorite Disney Villains! She just has a great elegant look, and her voice is very commanding. Did you know that the animator who did Maleficent in 1959 (Marc Davis) also animated Princess Aurora, as well as Cruella de Vil in 101 Dalmatians? There are similarities between the three of them! :)

Ocfan207 Maleficent became Jealous of Aurora when all the attention was focused on and her. And when she wasn’t invited to the party event, because she wasn’t wanted that’s when she became jealous and then cursed Aurora. On the Other hand Lady Tremaine became Jealous because of Cinderella’s Kindness and beauty as well as being much more graceful than her own biological daughters unlike Maleficent it took her a while to show her true nasty colors to Cinderella after her father died within a year or so. Putting her through Psychological abuse and torment while Maleficent showed her true colors almost instantly especially when she was pissed. And Cursed Aurora to Kill her. Lady Tremaine eventually attempted to do the same thing to Cinderella but in her own Horror cinematic way. In Cinderella 3 a Twist in time. By teleporting Cinderella in to a Nightmare Version of a Pumpkin coach based off the first film. And sending her Pet Cat Lucifer to Kill her. Making her being in her Own Worse Nightmare out of a scene of something that you’ll see in Friday the 13th Or Nightmare on Elm Street.

IMO Lady Tremaine is the most evil of all the Disney Villains. She doesn't have magic to use as her weapon like Maleficent does, but rather Tremaine uses psychological abuse and cruelty to make Cinderella's life a complete nightmare, so to me Lady Tremaine is basically a REAL person, or at least could be a real person in our world, so that is what makes her so terrifying and evil over Maleficent. Maleficent is a fairy tale villain because she is a witch and has magic, so while she is still quote unquote "evil" it's not the same type of evil that Lady Tremaine is, they are both different forms. I actually never thought of Maleficent as evil she was just depressed because she was wronged by King Stefan and The Queen for not inviting them to Aurora's birth celebration. Maleficent had more of a logical reason to do what she did because she was depressed, whereas Lady Tremaine really didn't have a logical reason why she did what she did to Cinderella, it was more out of jealousy above anything else. So again Lady Tremaine is the most evil of all the Disney Villains.

Jay Dubbs I would have to agree that Lady Tremaine is the most evil out of all of the Disney Villians because someone like her can exist in reality. Because she abuses her stepdaughter Psychology which is just as bad as physically because it can wear you out and kill you out of stress. That’s true that Maleficent was depressed and mad that she didn’t get invited to the birth Ceramony of Aurora so she decided to get revenge on King Stephan by Cursing Aurora as well as being spiteful of her beauty in the future. Even though Lady Tremaine didn’t possess any magical abilities to torment Cinderella. She did later on in Cinderella 3 a Twist in Time possess the fairy godmothers magic wand. Which she used to reverse time to the events that took place at the end of the first movie. As well as brainwashing the prince with the godmother’s magic wand thinking that he did dance with Anastasia when it was really Cinderella. Because she put him under a spell much like Maleficent in this scene in of the movie. Than later on near the end she transformed Anastasia in to a Doppelgänger version of Cinderella. Than made Cinderella vanish in to a nightmare pumpkin carriage and sent her devilish cat Lucifer to Kill her as well as the mice. And she also bewitched the slipper so it could fit Anastasia instead.

It's considered an insult because Maleficent holds a noble title which is why Queen Leah used "your Excellency" which is used for royals. Besides, Aurora and Cinderella also share a resemblance. this could explain why she was so cruel with her, she reminded her of the one that caused her downfall. Also, in Cinderella 3, a twist in time, Lady Tremaine was able to use the fairy godmother's wand with no problems at all (and so did her daughters, but with less proficiency) as if she had experience with magic, wich is never explained, but if she was Maleficent, to handle the wand would be easy.
