Yes! That’s what I’ve been saying. People are complaining about dreamsnaps, how it seems to be pulling extra photos in from previous weeks, etc. But if top percentages of submissions are earning more moonstones, then we should be happy these surplus photos might be padding the pool, and also making our own on-topic submissions look good! 😂 For now I am hoarding my moonstones, waiting for the shoe to drop and for dreamsnaps to be “fixed” and people to realize we actually had it really good.

The random submissions increase the pool of players increasing the amount of people winning high ranks because ranking is based off the percentage of total submissions. Also they’ll never fully be able to control how everyone votes ever so there will always be something to complain about. Heck there are probably trolls out there who vote for “bad” photos because they see everyone taking it to serious. At the end of the day it’s free online currency.

I just feel like 300 or 12,000 we got something they didn't need to give us and it's fun to create. I really hope this doesn't change, but I feel like they gave it to us after everyone complained about the Wall-E bundle costing too much and if we keep saying we don't like how it works they might just get rid of it. Here’s one thing I noticed that is definitely affecting results… originally, I was seeing a lot of repeat photos, but always against a different photo each time. The last several weeks, post-update, when repeats come up, it’s the same two photos paired up that are coming up. I’m seeing this a LOT. So if you’re up against the SAME photo each time, you’re either losing every time if your up against a fantastic one, or you’re winning the vote unfairly every time if you’re up against a raspberry bush. This was a flawed system from the start, for sure, we all pretty much agree on that… but since the update, it’s definitely worse.

I think the reason that so many people did well the first few weeks and not so well these past few weeks is cause of the amount of votes that people are doing. In the beginning it was new and people were excited but now it seems that people are spending less time voting and that changes the amount of people reaching that 4k percentage. Just my thoughts.

People don't do it for the end score, they do it for free moonstones. Higher scores mean more free moonstones. In countries where the currency's worth makes the price of moonstones expensive, the stakes rise. Plus it's a special kind of frustrating when you learn you might've gotten a low score due to faulty programming interference as opposed to a stable design.

Everyone thinks the random submissions are the issue. I’ve been saying it’s voting this entire time!! This proves it thank you! Random submissions are helping us if anything because it’s making the pool of players bigger which increases the amount of people winning 4K because it goes off percentage!

I like increasing the amount to vote for each week, but a 10 sec timer is way too long. In a lot of your voting videos you even vote for multiple pictures in less than 5 sec. 10 sec per photo locks somebody into sitting there for almost 17 min just to get their moonstones. People would likely not really vote and just scrap the 50 moonstones.

Agreed, I don't like the idea of a time of a timer restriction. However, people voting blindly could certainly be an issue. My recommendation would be monitoring for people who vote too quickly on the regular and having quality reminders pop up.

Agree as well. I can tell a bad snap instantly and don't need time. And if they're both good... I take my time and decide. Having a forced timer would be like having to watch ads to progress.😒

I think the voting random thing isn’t that big of a deal. It’s literally just a game, there is always next week, and there is always other players that do actually look at the pictures. The few that vote randomly shouldn’t mean punishment for all of those who play.

I think it would help the voting if there was a bonus for voters who had voted for any dreamsnaps that places in the top 100 or 250 or something. That way, in order to get that bonus, you'd want to make sure you voted for a snap that you thought was good enough to place high.. therefore you'd actually have to vote for the one you liked best, and not just spam the button. I see it as a win-win.. even if you only get the minimum, it's still free moonstones, and the fun in making the photo is a big part of the reward. But I am sad when a snap that I love does poorly, because I want people to love them as much as I do!. I also wish that Disney would flat-out publish the top ten snaps somewhere on their platforms!! It would be inspiring, even if they didn't say who had done them.

This is how Shining Nikki does it. You get accuracy points when you vote for pictures in the lead. Then your Accuracy score gives you bonus gems at the end of the week. It doesn’t just prevent rush voting, it also prevents Downvoting (which is when people intentionally vote against nice pictures).

I think a huge part of the problem is simply a lack of voting. I think the majority of us vote enough to get our 50 moonstones and that’s it. So how on earth would everyone’s submissions be seen enough and get enough votes to place decently?

Last week we were voting for pirates… at LEAST half of my submissions were critter based, or spooky… it’s as if the system was showing me submissions for previous weeks. It was bizarre.

Voting yielding a furniture pouch for voting X amount of times would be a huge incentive to the newer players especially when it goes free to play. I have been playing since the game released in early access and just last week broke 1K items unlocked. It was frustrating and the chance to get some extra items is really big.

Interesting take on things. I don't think it would be right to force people to vote on X number of images to get extra, as right now the most basic rewards are level. If they do, then they should apply that to the game overall? For example, you get 1 blue and 1 green chest per day. Should people who play for X number of hours get more chests per day, or have the chest reward multiplied by the number of hours played? But I do think we'll see some changes somewhere down the line, but even then people won't be happy.

We know it’s broken because their computer will pick any picture you have in your stock if you don’t do the dream snaps. That’s why you see many self portraits with the characters and many of the other ones where you had to take a picture. I wish they would fix it. It’s really annoying to have to go through those when you’re trying to vote for the real ones.

That is one theory, but it isn't confirmed. We can't be sure, that there isn't a lot of people who are just goofing around and submitting whatever random photo, because they don't care.

It's weird because you can't submit a picture without doing the tags and there's always alot of photos I see that don't have the tags for that week. Or I see pictures from last week's challenge. Overall, it's broken somewhere.

@@BlueBirdxHearts The tags can be pretty broad any for decoration challenges, it covers a fairly large area(so items can be hidden behind things, or in the distance and still count).

I've seen results where their photo's were beautiful, but they ranked low for one reason or another.. Reasons like they showed their backside rather than there front in an outfit challenge, they had the minimum amount for the required tags and nothing for the suggested tag or they thought they'd add in something visually cleaver to them, but the voters didn't catch on to it or they just didn't like it. The game's cycle of submissions is messed up, but what it is doing most of all is making those that are voting on a daily bases, to have to weed out the senseless entries which takes my voting time and that slot away from legitimate entries that I could be voting on in their place.

First time commenter on your vid’s. Thank you for all your help. I’ve only just gotten into dreamsnaps with your videos. Before now they really just confused me. I think I did about 4 weeks (scattered) all getting 300/600 MS. Fall week was the first week watching you and I got 1500 MS. I vote the minimum but this week you’ve inspired me to vote more. I also previously would exit out if there were two basic submissions (or previous week snap). Now I’ll vote on them just to clear them from the “queue” hopefully letting the better snaps come through. I’m hoping for a good result this week. I’m sure one week I’ll work up the courage to post in the image feedback on discord. Thanks again!

Does everyone really imagine they’re gonna keep giving out massive amounts of moon stones once the game is out of beta and free to play? Remember the only money those new players will be giving them is in moon stone purchases. I definitely see this as a short term way to reward all the beta testers and make you feel like you got a lot of value for paying for a game. That’s now free. Which to me means they would not be overly concerned with how fair the distribution of moon stones is, much less with tweaking it to make it work better. They just came up with a way to dump a whole bunch of moonstones on anyone willing to do even a minimal amount of work who was part of the beta And semi-randomizing the distribution by making the choices you’ve suggested, makes sense, if this is just functioning as a quick, short term, reward

I think that we are all trying too hard to figure this out. Obviously there is a mechanic behind the assignment of moonstones. But we are really trying too hard, is not sane for our minds. There are a lot of people voting randomly just for extra moonstones, there probably are kids playing and voting as kids do, last but not list, there surely are a lot of people that have different opinions and should like or dislike different pictures for different reasons. Find a mechanic should be a waste of time considering that is people to vote and not just an algorithm that assigne points.

I don't really think that voting affects our ranking at all. To many people entering and no way to even see half of the entries, much less spending the hours it would require to see all of the entries. I try to vote every day, but I certainly don't hit the end like in the first couple of Dreamsnaps. Here is what I think really and truly gets the moonstones, having more of the 'suggested' traits on your person, for a clothing issue and having more related items to the suggestions in a decorator event. My pirate outfit had 4 & 9 of the clothing items. I just stood in front of my pirate ship, at night, in the glade. I got 4,000 moonstones. I have 9 & 23 in the Bedroom Beauty event. I will see if that makes a difference as a lot of people are doing the Beauty theme, but there are a lot of good bedrooms that aren't Beauty & the Beast themed.

I know many of us me included take our dreamsnaps seriously but come on we need to stop all the complaining about our results and claiming how the voting is rigged or broken because we don't even know how dreamsnaps fully works. The voting is based on the voters opinion. Just because you think your photo is the best doesn't mean others will or more likely what's happening is your photo is going against a photo people just like better. Doesn't mean your photo sucks just wasn't as good. We could have trolls voting too and purposefully voting for the worst photo. We don't know how people are voting. Just make the best photo you can and have fun and if it flops you have next week to try again.

I think they need to implement a i don't want to participate in challenge just give me minimal moonstone option. That way you don't get those no effort photos creating the randomness and it will also make voting more enjoyable. They still count in ranking the submissions i.e. there would still be 100k submissions per time even if 30% of those chose the minimal moonstone button. Those ppl could then also get the vote moonstones without voting as they are likely the ppl more likely to vote randomly regardless of quality

Honestly, without even calculating anything i already know dreamsnaps is rigged. I saw people get 4k with VERY simple photo, like they just randomly taking pic in a certain place but somehow they got lucky. A few rank 1 winner too kiiiiinda doesn't deserve that high because i don't think the pic is that great and kind of messy compared to what i saw in discord with great lightning+cool background and such.

I am pretty sure I saw someone who ranked top 5(it might of even been first place, though I don't recall the exact score), who took the photo standing in front of a wall(I think it was one of the npc buildings and not even their home too). So literally no decoration at all and they were just wearing a dress with I think it was Donald standing next to them. It was like a 600 moonstone photo.

For me I've scored higher on weeks I put more effort into them, so to me the voting has seemed pretty fair. I personally think the results might seem random because the images can be quite small depending on the device and that can change how they look (you can take a picture of your image with your phone or save it and scale it down on your monitor to get an idea how it looks on smaller screens). Not to mention people just have different tastes in what looks good to them so people are going to vote differently. I've certainly seen some pictures on reddit that are highly liked by others that I personally didn't care for that much. Though of course the coding might have some flaws too who knows 🤷

I wonder if there's enough voting going on to give a fair ranking. I would say you'd need at least a few hundred votes per picture to get a fair average - and based on your statistics, I dont think that's happening. I'd be surprised if most photos are even looked at 50 times. To get those 50 free moonstones, I think they should change it to require about 100 votes - not sure that would be enough, but it would definitely help.

I think the randomness factor is ok. That is the perils and pitfalls of bad voter turnout. It also helps me deal when I don't get 4000 moonstones. I was devastated the first time. Now I just take the moonstones and don't think about it much after that. My amount of votes has lessened because my life got busier. I am going to try and vote a little more in my down time.

I've won 8 weeks in a row 4,000 moonstones. My pics are pretty good but not the top. They are symettrical, pretty basic, have lots of tags, pleasing to the eye. Top mid range pics. My highest rank was 11th place for dapper. My lowest was fire and water 900 because i didnt have suggested tags and then 2500 for ballroom because i didnt try that hard and it was the first pic. I'm confident i'll get 4,000 for my pirate pic even though it looks like everyone else's.

When you say they are not the top, is that you actually seriously comparing your photos to others and looking at the details, or just taking a quick glance at them? Since some number of photos are people potentially looking at small views of the photo, for only a second or two, a 'pretty basic' photo might look more pleasing than a better photo with a lot of details that don't show up at a glance.

@@saltycat662 I am convinced that the tags help the score, because I made a literal trash pile and got 1200 moonstones. It was during the pet challenge, and I was holding my pet in the photo, and a lot of people didn't follow the theme at all, so that might factor in. However, 1200 is pretty high for just piling every item with the tag on the screen with no consideration on how it looked what so ever.

@Lilitha11 I compare my dream snap to other photos I see on discord, that other streamers review and vote on which I then am able to see a bigger picture and the details. When I do my photos I also try to make sure they look good enough or pop in someway whether through lighting, color, items, etc. in the small view. I take it all into account. When I vote I rarely click to enlarge the photo. Their is usually a clear winner between 2 pics so I don't find it necessary.

I did not take your pole.......but what I do is when I log in everyday and do my dailies and make sure I vote on 20 pics a day...till we get the new dream snap...then i repeat that...140 pic I vote on....If i log in more then once a day I will vote again....so I can vote up to 60 a day...sometimes I can only get on for 30 mins here and there but I always make sure I vote.

my theory is that based on all mandatory + suggested you score a specific spot e.g. if you meet all criteria your picture is placed on a certain place let's say 20000th out 100000 pictures and what you get from voting adds up hence why I saw for the dapper challenge at least 15 people with a rank that matched mine since more or less they scored on clothing the same mandatory+suggested points or votes (depending on the score vs rank). I am most probably wrong but I have been testing on my second account vs my main less items and I've noticed that if I only place mandatory that do not have the same tags as suggested I rank lower but if I add more suggested and only meet the minimum requirement I rank highter and I only have 350 furnitured registered. I think items have familiarity too which means that maybe if people place an item that for example is shown in the challenge descrption photo might have more weight than other items which might either give you automatically more points or make your photo repeat more often. To support the theory - we see a lot empty photos while voting that look effortless but with the same repeated items - it makes sense if these photos are shown more often to get the same fair chance of votes as to people who scored automaically based on the challenge description. I could be wrong but I feel like it makes sense too. This also might explain why a lot of/most people haven't come across the pictures in top 10?

The number of items certainly plays some kind of role. Though it seems more like a quarter of the value of your score. You can't score extremely high just by putting a ton of junk in the photo.

I don't think the game keeps track of specific items in the photo, so there shouldn't be any way for the game to know if two photos are similar or not. It might be able to group photos be the number of suggested/recommended items, or it might have like a tie breaking system where very similar photos that rank the same are compared to see which is better. How would the game have any idea of how the picture looks though? I highly doubt they are running an AI to group photos.

My ideas Up to 100 moonstone so twice as many votes still 5 per vote Or 4 photos per page I already thought photos which are getting lots of votes are already being matched against another either lots of votes. So yes this should be happening. I wouldn't want a timer as they have this in wayfarer for pokemon go & its too long. If people aren't voting on either photo as they are both not very good this will probably mean the next person wil get them. Something to think about

I’m curious your thoughts on the people that have gotten 4K or higher since DreamSnaps Started. I have received 4k or higher every week on my PlayStation submissions except one that I completely omitted the suggested tags. I also do a submission on switch and those I experiment with, so sometimes they don’t do well. For PS I always try to have as many points as possible and I think this has contributed to my high rankings. When I do only the minimum amount of points on my switch I do horribly. I feel most of our scores are contributed to points in all four tags. I’ve been in top 100, 8 times. I wonder if/how you could test this?

I think Playstation is a different scenario. PS players are only against other PS players, not against all platforms. being on Playstation, I see A LOT of submissions that are weak, so I think that a good picture will win more easily. To be honest, I also have some amazing results on my PS5 and I am pretty sure I wouldn't do as good on PC (just by watching other submissions on this channel)

@@DunksduGamingQC I tested this theory the best I could. I tried to do the exact same DreamSnap on PlayStation, and on switch for the fun with fall week. I ranked 18 on PlayStation and 98 on switch. In my mind, there’s an average of 10,000 people that play on PlayStation and 100,000 people that play on everything else. So if I continue with that logic, my switch submission actually did better than my PlayStation one. I also have to take into account I’m playing on a switch light, and the quality of my dreamsnaps are considerably less than everybody else. It’s all very interesting to me.

I also play on PlayStation and thought that a high tag count does improve your score, because whenever I haven't got 4K, my tag count and score was low. Unfortunately last week on Frightfully Festive, I got 1500 moonstones with a poor score, despite having 70 items in each mandatory and suggested tag (a lot of them hidden so the photo was not cluttered), so that theory is out the window... 😅 It makes me feel better having a high tag count though, lol! 😆

I think it would be fair if you are offered a certain amount of moonstones each time you go over a certain voting threshold. Then increase each amount of votes to reach the next level. People love free moonstones. I think this means people will vote for more than the required votes to get 50 moonstones. Then you might have more chance to have your picture in the voting selection.

I don't like the idea of giving more moonstones, because it makes people grind. We don't want people grinding for moonstones to be voting, since their goal is to gain moonstones not to actually pick photos they enjoy. Even with just the current rewards there are people who just vote randomly.

Very interesting video, thank you for the detailed info! It's kinda sad to think that only max 100 people a week actually see each photo, and some of them aren't even looking at it before voting. As a PS player, it makes me even more sad, cause I'm sure the voting pool is so much smaller than on any other platform. I completely agree with you that we need more incentive for voting - And a free furniture pouch for say, people who vote 100 times, sounds like a great idea :) Also, are you sure that the third way you mentioned (ongoing/temporary ranking system), isn't something that's already implemented? I always assumed it does work that way, because I feel like a lot of the time when I do see a really nice submission - it's paired against another really good one.

I typically vote around 300 a week, however, this week I voted 550 times! I’ve never seen MrStarinsky or my own submission, but hopefully at some point I do!
