A very lovely tune indeed. A favorite Disney movie amongst many, but I still prefer The Lion King. This was truly a hard piece to arrange in a manner I would accept. In the end, the result was worth my time, and I hope you enjoy this video!
Big shout out to the composer of this song, Alan Menken, one of my heros.
Your Pianist,
Kyle Landry

You nailed it when you said "if I like it.... I can play ANYTHING". When you like something enough to the point of obsession, then you don't rest until you do it. It's really the key to accomplishing anything big in life. The people who are the best at something are simply the ones who enjoy it the most. You should feel proud of yourself for figuring this out so early in life, good for you kid.

This was amazing! However, I felt that the beginning especially was a bit metronomic. While this would usually be great, you're playing the melody with very little harmony, a melody that most people know sung. I feel like you could have taken more liberties with the line. As you go along and add in more voices I completely understand the need for structure, but the beginning not so much.
@warfarein
@warfarein 10 жыл бұрын
To me, this was actually a very smart decision because it helped highlight the differences between the first part and the second, when Mr. Landry just goes nuts with everything. But, hey, to each their own.

Listening to it again, I can appreciate what you're saying. It's 0:41 , 0:48 , and the same parts later, 2:17 and 2:24, that bother me. I blame this on listening to the original vocal one too many times, as well as probably just my novice ear not understand the brilliant musical arrangement he's doing there :)
@warfarein
@warfarein 10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, those spots did sound especially rigid but I think that's just the way it is. Though, I'm with you on the fact that listening to the original vocal version too many times makes it difficult. I'm in the same boat... ;)

Arpeggios are kinda overdone, but this is an otherwise amazing arrangement! Nothing gives me chills quite like that key change. Beautiful playing.

This is actually so incredible- it's one of my absolute favorite Disney songs. You play it so well! Going to go and try to learn this right now. Thanks!

I don't care who you are, if you unlike this video you should die a terrible death and repeat about twenty billion times. Keep playing piano and go pro dude. You are amazing.

Hey Kyle, thank-you so much for posting video. I had given up on music after I decided to go to college for accounting but this song made me realize that piano was not something I could quit. About a year ago, I bought this sheet music and made up my mind to learn it. Now I can proudly say that today was the first day that I managed to play it through up to speed. I am a jazz player and my reading was terrible when I started on this piece, so for me, learning it was like climbing mount Everest. However, since I started with this song, my reading has gotten so much better and continues to improve with each new song I learn. (like a snowball effect) Thanks to you, I proved to my self that with enough work I can "go the distance" on any song I set my mind to. Thank-you for helping me rediscover my love of music and I am looking forward to the day that I can play your rendition of spider dance. (I'd say four more years of practice at the minimum for me!) Can't wait to see what you come up with in 2019!

I'm still impressed, but I find the arpeggios a little cheesy to be honest.

Stelios Yerolemou Just felt like a distraction from what was actually going on in the song. In general it's bad musicianship to be needlessly flashy.

I understand where you're coming from, but I disagree. I believe that Kyle included the use of arpeggios to help make the song seem more busy as this was the style that he wanted to achieve for his arrangement.

Stelios Yerolemou That's fine. The ones that bother me are the two from 2:30 to 2:45. The rest seemed to fit alright.

You have a point but it's artistic expression, I guess.

He is my inspiration to keep playing the piano. Though I hate practicing, the way he plays motivates me to keep playing so I can hope to be at least half as good as he is.

Some people have no idea how much practice it takes to play a perfect performence. Its not just something u receive. It takes months, even years of practice. If u want to be such a good pianist as kyle is, what are you waiting for ?

What is with the random and unwarranted key change halfway through a verse? "Oh yeah, I'm bored! Why not go up a minor third?" It doesn't make sense! I do like the beginning though.

Unwarranted? It's in the song, dude. This is the movie version, we all know Disney has a key change in 90% of the their songs.

You're right. However, there are a lot of problems with it in this arrangement. First of all, the modulation in the original movie track is only after a lengthy dialogue, before Hercules resumes singing. Second of all, this arrangement's modulation happens right in the middle of a verse with no preparation. I'm not against a key shift, but it has to be approached properly and at the correct point in the piece. In this context it makes very little sense. This arrangement is flashy; however, I feel it is poorly done, aside from the first verse and chorus.
