Seems like the slide show has replaced the previou fireworks as the main part of the program now.

It's basically the same show and same sequence of fireworks, the projection was just added. So I wouldn't say it totally replaced the main element which is the fireworks. Unless you're referring to other nighttime shows that got replaced with a "projection focused" show. Either way, this wasn't their best projection work since like you said, it's almost just like a sideshow of different scenes from movies. Then again, this isn't a new show, so they had to work with what they have, not to mention they didn't have much budget then.
