One of the few things I would change would be to 1. Lower the price per person. 2. More goodies/amenities if they would keep the price the same. 3. Make it available for a longer stay than just 2-3 days. Those are just my thoughts on what they could/should change if and when they bring it back.

1) yes, although not sure 2) they should throw in clothes that are delivered to your room on arrival, you did get a pin and a magic band 3) maybe, the the pacing was mostly perfect though, not sure I could have kept going. I heard they were making a new story, it would have been cool to do it back to back, especially if the new story was essentially a sequel. I also wonder if they could have done “beginners” cruises which were a little less intense or for families

Maybe they’re going to bring it back in full force? Or maybe it will be strictly a Star Wars hotel with no immersive experience? 🤷🏼‍♂️

The original star cruiser could not hold up to the general public. The bridge/starlight lounge/environment simulator/engineering will be destroyed within a month of opening to the general public. People are destructive. Also, the building and its spaces were designed for the story and experience, take that away and you have a lot of star wars trappings without something to bring it together and give it meaning. People will hate it and you'll have a worse failure on your hands.

I hope the immersion isn't removed. The roleplay aspect of both the Halcyon and Black Spire Outpost is a significant amount of the appeal of them.

Jabba’s Palace or Death Star or Cloud City or even a Curascant experience would be epic and so much more attractive and popular. Disney shot themselves in the foot, making a Star Wars experience that has no recognizable Star Wars ties to the majority of the fandom.

I’m sorry but the sequel trilogy is TECHNICALLY bad: it was an overreaction to the prequels that ended up hurting the narrative of the original trilogy by bringing back the Empire and the emperor before killing Luke Han and Leia in a quota fashion And all so they can basically replace them with an original more affordable character; Luke and his friends are in no way active nor are they effective mentors to her. She simply trains herself to be a Jedi, redeems Han and leias son(whom Luke corrupted because he forgot his lesson in the OT), defeats the emperor (because the Chosen One Prophecy was a hoax) and now SHE will restore the Jedi order(a destiny that was always meant for Luke) And it’s not like to does anything new: it tells the same story as the OT verbatim The point is it was a bad idea from the get go and it’s even more absurd that the theme park attractions are strictly based on this sequel trilogy.

Here's my pitch: You get to pick how long you stay, you get to pick whether to engage in the story or not. The story is much shorter, much more optional, and doesn't rely on apps. Check in is every 3 days, to ensure that if you want to be in the story, you are there for the beginning of it. Story sections with full actors runs 6 hours a day, two days. 8-11 AM and 7-10 PM. If you're there for those parts, you're getting to interact with the characters and experience the story, but you don't have to. Come and go at will, stay 2 days, stay 6 days, up to you. Optional paid restaurant. More rooms. Make it let's say double what any other disney resort charges

A couple years ago I did several two to three hour immersive experiences for stuff like Doctor Who, Guardians of the Galaxy, War of the Worlds and The Gunpowder Plot that were from £40 to £100 each (plus in some cases the ability to purchase costumes ahead of time). I think the idea of turning Galactic Starcruiser into something like those for a much cheaper price that could run three times a day and set entirely on board could be amazing. I also think Disney should consider taking such smaller immersive experiences outside the parks in specially designed locations around the world for Star Wars, Marvel and more. Get around the need for it to be a hotel and cost $6000 for two and a bit days and you’ll be golden.

I think if they don't want to keep it open for the expense, they should at least go for the "Halloween store" business model and have it open for the season of the force. Also the thought of not being able to go outside while you're there always seemed strange and limiting to me. But if they had outdoor sections and each could be like its own planet, it might be more relieving.

This will be a long comment because I went on Starcruiser and loved it. I'm really sad it's gone. It was a very special experience for me. So, here goes: 1: The marketing was a disaster. From a company famous for its marketing prowess, this was totally bungled. First of all, it's not a hotel! It's a living theater experience. It's two days of non-stop immersive living. The ads should have begun with the Star Wars crawl: "Imagine yourself living in a galaxy far, far away. Now, you can...." By not being clear, it just seemed like a crazy expensive hotel. I was exhausted at the end of every day. Emphasize the non-stop activities of running around the ship for clues and adventures. It's not a passive hotel! 2: PR. Where was it? Where were the actors? Shouldn't Mark Hammill be onboard saying, "This is more real than the movie. We lived in a set. This is the real thing!" Daisy Ridley, "We pretended to be on a ship. This is like being on the actual ship." There should have been great quotes from guests. As I was leaving, I saw a little boy in tears as he told his father, "I don't want to go back to Earth." I don't even want to go into the videos. The only thing worse than Sean Giambrone running around was the purple lady spokesman. I cancelled my reservation when I saw that. But rebooked when I read The NY Times review. 3: It should have been paired with a night at a Disney hotel. I think most people stayed the night before or after. And toss in either a free suite or a heavily discounted rate. Also toss in a private guide for a day. It doesn't cost them much. But I wanted to feel like a VIP for my entire time there. 4: Allow full privileges at the resorts.I wanted to use the pool at one of the hotels and it was treated like something very difficult. There is no pool at Starcruiser, so make sure people can use the pool elsewhere. 5: For the actual experience, offer two versions: the current one and the "Classic" cruise. That features Han, Luke and Leia. Keep it very similar, but with these characters. Have Han put in the brig, but who is there for the final plot twist? The lore is that Han and Leia had their honeymoon onboard, so make the first night dinner into the wedding reception with toasts to the characters. (Chewie was best man...or best Wookie.) I could go on. My highlight was being in the cargo Hold by myself. I wandered in to take some pictures. Then, the door opened and Re ran in with lightsaber drawn. She looked at me and said, "Don't tell anyone I am here." Then ran out the other door. I was filled with surprise and child-like wonder. How did that happen? A moment of feeling like a child again is...priceless.

For me personally nothing would have to change. I loved the Starcruiser and consider myself fortunate that I was able to go on twice. That being said I think there are many things that would help sway public opinion. Number one is the perceived value. A lot of people say “it’s too expensive” which for what it was I don’t think that’s true or at least certainly not the whole story. What is true is the perceived value. Look at the rooms in their current state. Then go back and look at the concept art for the rooms. The basic rooms in the concept art are bigger than the grand captain suites. Had the basic rooms been that size it would have gone a long way in making people see a much greater value in the price. At the end of the day you are only spending 8 hours in that room to sleep, the size is pretty inconsequential. But people look at the larger room and equate that to a higher price tag. The food is another area where perceived value would have helped. Don’t get me wrong I loved the food. But instead of just the ham and cheese pod make it prosciutto, it’s still the same thing ham and cheese but prosciutto sounds fancier. And the biggest issue of all was that horrible commercial with Ann Morrow and Sean Giambrone. With something like the Starcruiser this is so new and innovative you have to educate the public, that commercial did nothing to educate the public on what the Starcruiser was. There are other suggestions I would make like improve the graphics on the bridge activities and bring back the alien couple that was supposed to be on board. But overall if Disney can increase the public’s perceived value and their awareness of what the Starcruiser is I think they will do much better.

My wife and I had been planning on going for our 30th wedding anniversary - this September 2024. Unfortunately... the Cruiser shut down. Very disappointing. That said, even if Disney cut back on the experience so that it was less manpower intensive - less show and more hotel - we'd STILL go. A Star Wars themed resort? How cool would that be? I was very pleased to see your video because I'm hopeful... so hopeful...

They need to get rid of the Sequel-related theme, and transition the experience to surround the Original Trilogy or Prequels. A significant portion of the SW community are not big fans of the Sequels and this experience is way too First Order/Sequel related. Let's experience an Imperial Starship, not a First Order ship.

I think it was the cost of doing the galactic star cruiser plus that you didn't get to stay very long but they are going to need to lower and you're going to need to stay at least a week or more. If there is starting to do some new construction there it needs to look like the galactic star cruiser. To get that full experience of being on it. Evening the facility around it needs to have that feeling that you're in Star Wars. I know I will never get a chance to see it for myself I never even seen Galaxy Edge if it wasn't for KZbin I never get see it at all.

I think the obvious first change is to have it as just a Star Wars themed hotel for 3 weeks of the month. That solves the commercial success issue. Then for the week(s) where it's the full experience, have ones specifically aimed at families and ones in the off-seasons aimed at adults to cater for those that want to fully immerse and don't want screeming kids in cheap stormtrooper halloween costumes running around. On the question of costumes, have more varied costumes available and encourage all guests to wear them wuth incentives like 10% off all purchases or something. Offer a bigger/better experience for those that don't want to be Jedi. Not everyone wants that, so how about having a Mando experience option where you go through the process of taking the crede and donning your amour. Lastly, and this is the big one, change the period it's set. Disney knows the Rey/Ren period is not a commercial success, that's why they've clearly changed Galaxy's Edge to include characters from other eras, so stop forcing us into it. The Mando-verde is clearly where the fan focus (and money) is, so set the Starcruiser then with appearances from Mando, Grogu, Ahsoka, Bobba Fett, etc. They could even exoand on this and have different cruises throughout the year in different time periods with different stories. This not only allows guests to pick and chose what they want to experience, it gives a better reason to go back. Honestly this is all really obvious stuff.

So it stopped me from going was the price point versus the amount of time that you actually get to experience everything. Additionally, I’m not a fan of the sequel trilogy era. I pretty much like everything before that so they’ve done pretty much anything from prequel all the way through post ROTJ would’ve been stoked to go get the price point was a little bit better. I understand they keep wanting to support the timeframe and galaxies edge but to be honest they should redo that as well. Technically, they’re already paradoxical themselves as Mandalorian and book of Bubba Fett happen before/long before Kylo Ren ever came about….

I think 3 things doomed the starcruiser: 1. The price (people got sticker shock) 2. The marketing (the marketing doomed it. Seriously, when we saw the intro video we swore we'd never do it. We were totally wrong, and it was one of the best times of my life) 3. Setting it during the sequel trilogy (we can't blame Disney for this, when they started planning it, TFA had just done $2B.) The marketing was seriously awful on it. Like, stinky bad. Also, everyone I see calls it a hotel. It's definitely not a hotel. It's an experience that you happen to sleep at. The only resemblance to a hotel was I had a room to crash in once all the activities were over. I'm not sure how they'd fix it, as it was already super excellent. I enjoyed every second, and if it were still open I'd be trying to go every year. It was that good. There are lots of Star Wars fans who badmouth it who never went, and all I can think is how they completely missed out.

My wife and I went almost exactly a year ago with another adult couple. Like you mentioned, the experience shouldn't be spoiled. I avoided everything about it, treating it like a much-anticipated movie. On arrival I had no idea how it would work beyond knowing that I had to download the app. Honestly, I thought it would be glorified dinner theatre. Obviously, I was wrong on that count. I absolutely loved it. The spontaneity of how the story unfolds, the exploration, the actors, sets, activities/events, the FOOD, were all exceptional and blew us away. Having foreknowledge of the activities would have partially soured the experience rather than letting oneself be immersed in the scenario unfolding organically. That being said, I was anticipating a repeat trip in 2024, this time bringing the kids along with us. My plan was to take a different route through the story and really ham up the acting/cosplaying. It'0s one of those things that's very hard to sell through advertising. Describing my own experience at the workplace convinced a handful of coworkers to pull the trigger on it. They were glad they did but likely wouldn't have gone without word of mouth. Lastly, I tried very hard to get in prior to its closure but the hold time was about 10 hours and by the time I got through they were completely booked. The demand is there. The price is steep but worth it. Their cost (doing some napkin math) showed that they likely turned a small profit each trip. Maybe one day we'll find out why they pulled the plug. Here's hoping it reopens.

Turn it into a Star Wars themed hotel. Do away with the 2 day immersive experience. Build a tower on top if possible for more rooms, add a pool, better theming on the exterior and lower the price. They can keep the entertainment just have guests book a time slot with priority for guests staying onsite. Guests not staying at the resort will have to pay for a pass. Some people might just want the experience without having to sleep in bunkbeds. Could be a one day experience for most people.

The price only seemed high until we stepped on board and realized how much work was put into the experience. I think it really hurt them when they were never able to shake off the misconception of a $5000 Star Wars hotel. It definitely was not a hotel. There’s no gym, or pool, or check in on any day. It’s 2 days of LARPing on another level.

Oh also I wonder with the increasing ability of AI NPCs for video games, I think Galactic Starcruiser could easily be reimagined via a digital version where you can talk to the crew and ask them anything and they’ll respond to you (see Inworld Origins for what I mean), though at that point one could probably just do the same with some other Star Wars area like Novarro in The Mandalorian or a fully immersive Mos Eisley…

They failed on the price because it shouldn't have been aimed at people "willing" to pay that price point. I am "willing" to do many things but "able" to do them is a totally different story and $6k for 2 people is absurd and trust me I was willing to pay that much but couldn't physically do it. The tech also was only semi successful as it only worked part of the time, and for a premium price tag the product best be complete.

Heck, the price is what stopped me from going because I don't have $4000 to spend on a vacation like that, and I would hope I could stay more than two nights if I'm spending that much

I think your point about price doesn't really match the Starcruiser experience. There are lots of expensive experiences like that but they are usually highly limited in quantity, and if they don't get booked, don't cost much money for the company to maintain. I wouldn't be surprised if lots of them sit empty most of the time. A big, cast-heavy experience pretty much requires a nearly full hotel at all times to be profitable at a level that Disney cares about, which was difficult for them to maintain. I would LOVE a complete Star Wars themed hotel, maybe with opt-in ($$) experiences in addition, but going to Disney for either a couple of days, or having to book a second hotel stay was always a sticking point.

What it needs: 1. No forced immersion 2. No Sequel Trilogy references.

Can't wait to see what Disney does. Mt cousin went last year right before it closed and he said it was fun but the price is crazy expensive. for me to go the price would need to be more affordable.

The price isn't going to get any cheaper, and I don't think it should (other than occasional specials). It would only serve to lower the quality of the experience. Let's face it, a lot of fans will be priced-out of this experience, but it is what it is. SW fans cannot get or experience everything they want. Although I want it, I can't afford a $25,000 original mail-away Boba Fett figure, but whatever, that's life. I will however suck it up and pay $5k for this fun weekend tho! I just wish it was not Sequel-themed.

A few things that I would need to change. 1 I don't care how positive of a spin you put on the viability of a $6,000 for a weekend 'experience' the vast majority of star wars fans that would want to experience this would be priced out at that price point. 2 a more diverse range of food is needed. There are people like myself who cannot do the super fancy foods that were shown. I mean yeah there's gold fish and chicken tenders but honestly the food options were a major turn off. 3rd there nee# to be an option for people who have no desire to be dragged into the massive interactive world of star wars shy of hiding from everyone in the hotel room. It could be as simple as a specificly colored wrist band or some other kind of visual marker that basically tells the character actors 'do not interact with this person unless they come to you. I'm Autistic with high social anxiety and while the idea of being in a themed hotel is neat to me I have exactly zero capacity to waste my spoons on forced interaction.

The price is definitely a stumbling block for Disney, you mention in the video that other hotels/spa ect charge this kind of money, however they are still all very indulgent activities that can only be afforded by the well off/rich. Disney was never supposed to be solely for those people with deep pockets. Also i feel that the star cruiser is more beneficial for Americans, I live in the UK, so for me to travel to Disney World, I'm already forking out at least 10k for a 14 night holiday, then spends at Disney, then on top of all that I would need to pay 5k each for me and my son to experience the hotel. That's just not feasible for most outside of the USA. The idea of this is fantastic, but the reality of it is, that only a small percentage of people can justify the expense.

I hate to say it but I have to disagree. The issue WAS THE PRICING! A 7-day cruise for a family of 4 costs $6000 at a minimum. If you tack on airfare to get to Disney that can range from $400-$600 round trip adding an additional $2000. So even if you stay only at the StarCruiser you’re spending $8000 for 2 days! For a family with kids old enough to appreciate that event it’s unreasonable. Your picture shows 4 adults and one child. Yes, “easier “ but a two adult and two teenagers 13-17 who are not working and charged the same as an adult not the same. I’m as hardcore as they come but this experience shouldn’t just be for the “hardcore” fan who has disposable income but accessible to ALL fans. Disney could easily give the hardcore fans upgrade options for things like junior and full suites, dinner with the cast, exclusive tours, cosplay costumes included, even a VIP unique event on the GS, etc. IMHO the price should have been $1,000 for adults and $500 for children under 12. Closer to $3,000 for a family of 4. The place would have been constantly booked and lasted for years.

This has to be one of the worst takes on why the Star Wars hotel failed. It failed due to the price, the lack of Star Wars authenticity, the over saturation of Disney-era crap. I’m sorry dude, you are so wrong.

I personally hope it isn’t closed for good. It look really cool, I never got a chance to go. Though the theming could have been a little more on par with what we saw with things in galaxy’s edge, it still was cool. My biggest complaint as to why I think it didn’t work out (beyond the price) the experience was scripted. Meaning, if you went a second time, you know what was going to happen with the story, events, and the activities in the ship. Which would get old fast if you went multiple times. Where it should be an open exploration and just what it should be, just a cool themed hotel with Star Wars activities
@DerektheDalek
@DerektheDalek 3 ай бұрын
I think the idea for anyone who had the cash to do it a second time was the idea that there were different threads one could follow - Resistance or First Order, Heist or Force Sensitive etc. I think if they had been able to expand those and maybe doubled the main cast size (so they could take the pressure off the others) they would have a lot more options for replay-ability.

I'm sorry to say this obi-dad but I don't think that re-opening this "hotel" as may well call it, is a good idea I understand what you are talking about with those other ridiculously over priced hotels and restaurants but then the people who choose to spend their money on something like that, may or my not be pointless, is their choice to make, however to only make it that only the super rich can enjoy it, anything like that regardless of a enjoyable experience is not fair to everyone especially if it's just a one time deal, with the disney parks themselves it's completely different sure tickets are pricey but within reason and that doesn't apply to the gift shops anything like that, what you buy in the parks are completely separate from the gate tickets and to put it simply I think they should focus their efforts on something that does not cost an Arm or a leg just to have the experience
@Justin.Danford
@Justin.Danford Ай бұрын
My guy, it was 100% the price. The other examples you mention of absurdly priced hotels/dining fails to account for context. Spas and Vegas are a completely different type of personnel than Star Wars themed attraction. Not only are you limiting the potential clientele to a specific genre of fans, the vicinity to family amusement park is much different than vicinity to glitz and clamor and Vegas/gambling/or purposely priced out solitude. The ambition to draw a line connecting these types of attractions with a family based genre attraction is exactly the hubris for why the hotel failed. Not to mention as a “ride/hotel experience” unless you are offering an insane value, you’ve priced yourself into a one and done experience for an already limited pool of people. The idea was untenable.
