I really want to see more investment in Paris. It definitely feels like it's been neglected for far too long, especially the castle park. I want to see a third park built, but so much needs doing to the current 2 parks first.

Paris deserves so much more love. Studios needs a rework first however before a third gate and I'd love to see the actual Disneyland park receive the indiana jones E-ticket ride it deserves Edit: Of course they -are- doing that studios rework, but I think they'll finish all lake lands before a third gate. Then again, a third gate will take years to make so maybe they can start! Let's hope we don't get left out...again :D

You're absolutely right, Jack. Some of this "investment" might be just baked into normal operating costs for all of the parks (money you would have to spend ANYWAY). It's like if I said: "I've made a million dollars at my job"... where I've been paid $50,000 salary a year for 20 years. Disney is definitely trying to prop up their appearance.

Actually no, investment is an asset on the balance sheet. Operating costs are expenses that only can go on the profit and loss when the cost is occurred.

If they were better, they should be able to build 10-15 fantasyland level attractions for a billion. The fact that they can’t build an attraction for under 100 million is getting ridiculous. They need small improvements that keep them in the headlines instead of only building guardians and tron…seriously get two attractions for a billion.

Seeing as how much of this COULD go to Cruise ships, hotels, more Downtown Disney style areas, I’m not sure this is going to be as exciting as people think it will be. Personally, I want to see the majority of this cash invested into WDW since it’s the flagship resort and still has 2 half day parks. MK needs all the attractions and capacity it can get. Animal Kingdom needs more lower tiered rides as well as another E ticket and more animal exhibits. Hollywood Studios is so E ticket heavy but suffers from not having lower tiered things. Epcot needs a Spaceship Earth refurb, a redo of Imagination, and something put where Wonders of Life is. And let’s not forget some occasional investment in the waterparks… Disneyland is more than fine. A complete park as it is. I wouldn’t do anything but small upgrades on rides. Disney California Adventure could use more… Walt Disney Studios Paris needs a lot of love… Disneyland Paris deserves a few new attractions… Hong Kong needs its own Disney Springs and additional park attractions… Shanghai doesn’t need much with the Marvel attraction coming soon…

I’m biased towards WDW so that’s where I want to see the investment go, but more specifically in the expansion plots at the current 4 parks. We need more capacity and it’d be great to get that without knocking down current attractions (and if anything, pull a test track and update any outdated attraction if it’s really an issue)

I just hoping Disney as a whole doesn’t get sold to Apple. I understand that times are changing and not every company can last forever. Just look at Warner Bros having to brought by AT&T and later Discovery to survived. But I want there to be some aspect of Disney left for the future. As for the Disney Park investment. I think it's well intentioned but we'll see what happens. Personally, first and foremost Disney needs to prioritize paying their cast members appropriately for the amount of work that they truly do cuz it's A LOT. Then, Disney needs to work on the problems that are the reservations, Genie+, and no incentives to stay on Disney property. That's where I'm at. Beyond that though, one park I DREAM of going to is Disneyland Paris. It's so beautiful! However, they haven't updated or done anything new to the park since ruining Discoveryland. They only work on Walt Disney Studios park now 🙄🙄. It'd be awesome to see them give the park a make-over. Make it even more beautiful (cuz Shanghai has given it a run for it's money if not beat it), update the technology in some classic attractions, take out ones that aren't working and put in some new ones, and bring Discoveryland back to it's former glory. Hell, maybe even embrace the French and European culture even more and replace Main Street USA (cuz like why is it there when they protested and boycotted Disney's Americanization of their culture?) and give it something more culturally relevant to them like they did with Gardens of Imagination in Shanghai. Like give it some love and elbow grease and it'll see a major profit!

Of my international bucket-list parks, the one that's a Disney park is Tokyo DisneySea. It just looks mind-boggling. Of course, the Tokyo resort is exceptional in that it's not Disney's money, it's OLC's, and they seem to have deep pockets. It sounds like the makeover of Walt Disney Studios Park is a bust so far, and that's a pity, because that place definitely looks like it needs work.

The reason as to why now is very simple Jack. Its September. Their year end is coming up. They will want to put a provision (a promise thst they will spend a certain amount of money) in their liabilities in their accounts. In order to put a provision in the accounts you have to explain to investors why you are doing so as you haven't actually spent the money yet.

I am curious to see what they end up doing whether its creating a new land or even a new park. At the same time, I do think that Disney spends all this time and energy into these massive projects that either do really well or end up flopping really hard. I think Disney World desperately needs to work on their budget hotels. The all-star resorts could easily be rethemed, they even have a bunch of stuff from the star wars hotel that could easily be relocated to keep the idea of a star wars hotel alive while bringing down the cost per person per night. Utilize the courtyards by adding mini golf and interactive play structures. I suspect that a 5th park is complicated by the amount of forested land they'd have to level. More upcharge activities like Broadway style theatre and a rec center/arcade that recreates the more timeless and unique parts of Disney Quest with far fewer mass produced cabinet games could add a lot of value without a massive footprint.

I say that if Disney wanted to build a third park in Paris, it would have already done so. My one and only time at EuroDisney I didn’t have enough time to what I wanted to at the first park. At the second park I did, but there was still other stuff I could do, and that was while they were building Toy Story Land, so they didn’t even have that open yet. Instead, Disney is just expanding their parks. Expanding DLRP, expanding WDW, and DLR. Take Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, Pandora, and any one of their many many many conceptual expansion lands, and they’d have a fifth park already. But they don’t care about crowd control and crowd capacity. They want guests to visit each park twice each trip, making parks more crowded, and lines long, all while paying the same amount of cast members to provide service to more guests than they should. That’s the American business plan. Why pay two people when one can do the job of two?

That would be all the Disney parks, not just the US ones. $60 billion over 12 parks works out to an average of $5 billion per park. And for 10 years that's an average of $500 million per park per year. Although the US parks would likely get more investment. However, although they're announcing a big investment, they aren't announcing many actual attractions for the parks.

As part of the $17 billion going towards WDW, it should go towards financing a new fleet of monorails. And it should go towards updating the rest of EPCOT (Test Track is getting a future update, and the same could be said other attractions that feel dated like Journey into Imagination with Figment (which I hope they finally announce a major overhaul in the future). Other wish list suggestions. A Colombia pavilion expansion with a Mystic Manor-style attraction themed to Encanto. And the Mexico pavilion should include a Coco attraction if it means retiring the Gran Fiesta Tour.

I hope they start implementing their Fox properties into these parks and cruise ships. Imagine if they start adding National Geographic themed stuff, as well as Ice Age and Rio, at Disneys Animal Kingdom. Imagine if they added an Orville themed ride at Epcot. Heck imagine if they made an Alien vs Predator ride at Tomorrowland. I could even see a Bobs Burgers themed restaurant at Hollywood Studios or even at Disney Springs

I would like to see a Tangled or Frozen land at WDW Florida. They have so many amazing rides overseas and I can’t travel there. I like Star Wars but we didn’t need it at 2 USA parks. Also, overseas they have a lot more amazing Princess hotel rooms, etc. It seems like the USA hotel refurbishments are removing the cute parts of Disney. Love your videos by the way. I stand with you on that! I believe the only reason they went full fledge Galaxy's Edge on both coasts was just to try and pull a Harry Potter success which they did not wheras they knew they already had a popular turnout with Avatar. Frozen is a staple to Disney's success and it makes no sense both coasts didn't get a World of Arendelle. Tokyo can have their own but Hong Kong and Paris should of had Galaxy's Edge if they wanted to draw people out towards those parks. It really isn't fair for little girls and little boys whichever coast they live in to be told they don't have Frozen or Cars where they're at. I'm not saying Paris and Hong Kong shouldn't have a World of Arendelle but they shouldn't be the first to get something incredible and noble to the Disney company. One could argue that Epcot has it, but it's still not a Land of it's own it's still the Norway pavilion even though it's quaint and works. Why not have both or better yet a World of Arendelle built exactly but themed as a resort.

If I was in charge of the money I think I would build a fifth Park in Disney World as my top project and add elements to other parks around the world. Although it would be nice to have another park somewhere in the world, I personally would rather have more to do right here at home in Disney World.

I could definitely see investment towards Shanghai and Hong Kong to compete with Universal Beijing, naturally Tokyo has a longstanding ability to thrive, Paris definitely has some momentum lately as well. What's interesting to me is the "new audience" vibe going on in that statement. I would love to see parks on all continents, but realistically we're just not economically there yet (not Disney, but the world). I COULD see with the current trend and favoritism towards moves into Australia.... well the long rumored and abandoned and rerumored and forgotten idea of Disney Gold Coast could make a comeback, but I wouldn't see that realistically happening or whispers in the wind happening for at least another 5-6 years in that plan, or later. In my dream alternate universe where Disney wanted me and I could afford food on the table, etc, etc, etc.... there'd be a Disney park on each continent, and the castle would be stylized in the region's Disney lore.... (I.e. Mulan in china), so that each castle felt uniquely honoring of the culture the park has been plotted down in. Granted that would mean Disney would have to cover their racism in not presenting a Latin and African princess on the big screen (Nala does not count).

There’s more and more rumours being put out for a Disney Park in Australia. With the Disney Wonder selling incredibly well for its first season down here, that must be sending a message to Disney that something more permanent could work. I am maybe just being hopeful, but I really think they are going to build something permanent in Australia in the next 10-15 years. Even if it is a Disney Springs like area with a few e or d ticket rides.

A Gold Coast DVC resort seems much more likely than a park. Australia already has a competitive lineup of parks for a relatively small population (26.7 M), and Disney would prefer not to compete with Warner Bros Movie World when it combines the best of Six Flags and Universal Hollywood into one park. Plenty of Aussies visit the greater LA area every year, so they don't really need their own Disneyland park when they can visit the original. Longer term, Disney has to be looking at India's potential for a standalone park. It's now the world's most populous country, and it's the biggest untapped English-speaking market for Disney Parks. They have several theme parks, but none are particularly huge. And their demographic transition (population pyramid) is about where China's was around 1990. So I wouldn't be shocked if a Disney Park breaks ground there within the next 15 years.

You have to understand Universal is a subsidiary of Comcast, a top five largest company in revenue and AUM in the world... Disney will never be able to outspend Universal by a long shot, Comcast makes so much money from so many different Diversified Ventures that they can spend all day long. Disney is a more popular brand however they rely on their parks and their movies, Universal can make good movies and good parks and has billions of dollars coming in from all kind of other assets... This is evident being that Universal is building a new park from the ground up that will be superior to any Disney park, and Universal will go behind and upgrade all of its Parks elevating them to the Epic Universe standard.

I grew Up down the street from Disneyland and missed having an annual pass 7 years out of the entire time it was available. I personally like the fact that they're going to finally spend some money on the parks. However, Disneyland is in dire need of maintenance and repair, including remodeling and restructuring. Because there's so much area of land we cannot walk around and the walk. Ways are so crowded as it is like G if they got rid of Tom Sawyer's island that river and the boat, there could be like a whole land right there or 2 major attractions. Of some type with a couple of smaller ones and more foot traffic everywhere and less crowded. As somebody who grew up down the street, able to experience, people move a rocket rods and the sky away. Skylight Tran, it's nice to know that. In the Disney forward project, they are wanting to bring back the skyway and the people mover. Now everybody thinks it could be a third gate. It's been said they will not bring a third gate to California, it's already been stated due to studies a 3rd gate would bring too many problems, but expansion won't. The city of anaheim, not disney put the research studies they did themselves on what the impact of expanded land at Disneyland Resort would imply and it is well accepted within the entire Orange County community! Within the proposal is to remove the road West st that is between the resort and the hotel side to then give full controll to Disney to build, expand and create whatever deemed necessary to add the expanded lands. There will be 3 ways to enter as Fresh Baked on youtube has covered. The downtown disney path leading to the monorail station. When riding the tram to the resort you notice a gate along the street that is right at the stop light between the parking structure and the hotels. This will be where there will be some way cross over from Disneyland when the expanded land happens. Which cal also remove the road between the parking structure and give them all the room to build right up to it instead of out to the walls with the road in between. If anyone remembers when the tram operated and would take you across the street of West to the parking lot back by Paradise Pier now rethemed into Pixar Hotel. That area will be the cross over for the expanded land for California Adventure. Now that it has already been discovered not a 3rd gate due to the expanded land wording they gave the real question off of the concept art is what exactly is the rides and other attractions as 30 are proposed in the expanded land at Disneyland Resort. As long as it isn't 2 e ticket attractions and a bunch of nothing like Star Wars Galaxys Edge then it should be well accepted.

Hi Jack! Big fan of your work. Just wanted to point out that GotGCR is not a very good example of overspending. That ride is very different to the rest. It is safe to say that a huge chunck of the budget went to the actors and voices that we see in the ride. Other rides, which are way more popular and considered to be classics, have set back Disney for only 100 million. So my point is that 60 billion is still a lot of money, plenty enough to build immersive rides. As people already know, China and HK are also responsible for investing in their parks, so those two parks wont be using as much money compared to WDW, Disneyland Resort and Paris parks. Heck, Disney can even build a new park with a budget of 5 to 7 billion USD. I am very excited to see what is waiting for us, fans.

If Disney wants to compete with Universal, they have to appeal to their core audience more (teens and adults). They now have the IP (Predator and Alien) to do that for an entire park or at least half a park.

They've already went that direction, meanwhile the international parks are going to become the best for sticking to the real properties of Disney every generation age loves and dreams about. Competing with Universal is not working and why the heck should they compete with Universal when Universal isn't competing at all with Disney but learning from them.

The slam dunk move for Disney is to take its private island property and build a proper Disney scale - but elevated Water Park, if not a full on Disney Theme Park. Stock in its cruise line and demand would absolutely soar and they could build more ships, if the only way to get to that park is to take a cruise there. I suppose they would have to work out a way to maximize revenue vrs cost (why I suggested a water park) but its very easy to see how a cruise with an overnight stay would command interest and grow both streams.

I'm not going to hold my breath on anything massive. What I would like is a bug chunk going to build their first park in Australia. I think more investment in the Cruise Line options down here is more likely though. Maybe they can do a Castaway Cay like thing with an island around here.

Hi Jack - you might consider a video exploring the scenario if Parks and Resorts is spun out. How much CAPEX will they be able to reinvest in their company as a slow growth corporation? They would have to pay substantial dividends to become an attractive investment for long-term investors. Might be something interesting to explore and compare against this $60b figure.

First, you're spot on. As for where, I think I would allocate based on where the revenue is generated. WDW is the biggest cash cow and seems to have let stagnate for a while so the biggest chunk should go there and at all 4 parks. Prioritize based on revenue and the business climate in each environment. Again, WDW is facing a massive competitor, DL and DLP aren't that I know of.

If Disney spends double on their parks I means they will have to raise ticket prices much more than their regular increases.

With 60 billion to spend I'd like to see the Toyko's Beauty and the Beast ride come to WDW. I have personally written to WDW and BEGGED them to bring that best attraction here. Also, bring Zooptopia land to WDW. And I would revamp the Living Seas ride in Epcot with more vibrancy. My family first saw Finding Nemo show in AK and was very impressed with the visual colors of that underrated show. Then, the next day, we went to Epcot and was sooo disappointed with Living Seas....the queue was so dark and drab and the over-all ride itself was the same lackluster compared to the incredible beautiful NEmo show in AK. I would create another classic onmi=mover ride in AK. I would put another country in Epcot WITH a ride. I would put something inside the defunct Stitch ride. ANd then I would finish up the once promised Mary Poppins attraction in England but NOT spinning cups...just an amazing magical walkthrough in he Mary Poppins house.

Honestly, I think they need to put that investment in updating the older attractions. The tech in a lot of classics are suffering while the international parks have the state-of-the-art stuff. Spaceship Earth, Jungle Cruise, Splash Mountain, all of Dinoland desperately need a huge mechanical update. And to save money, which they should've been doing, is reduce the overwhelming amout of Marvel and Star Wars content.

I really think Disneyland needs investment (WestCot and Galaxys edge expansion please). I am biased though as that is my home park and after going to FL last year and it being so hot and terrible lol I have no desire to go back there anytime soon haha

I think you might see Disney move into the South American market as a next step. Population could support it and their new IP has a strong ties to Latin America.

What would create real confidence, it stop the blue skies, visuals and some to say yes start building now. A villians Kingdom would be fantastic and not a copy cat from another park. The IP is there, the products, fans and lends to all the storytelling. Brake ground and build or it be another generation saying the same thing in year's to come. Show confidence in your product and values 😊
