Another Disney Resort that is separate from a theme park resort is Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. It is kind of tied to Walt Disney World in marketing but it is on the East Coast of Florida approximately 2 hours south of Walt Disney World property.

Sequoia National Park, Mineral Kings, •Historic• Kaweah River Bridge 1923 Mineral King, a huge granitic canyon in California's Sierra Nevada mountains, now part of Sequoia National Park, was a mining site starting in about 1870. By 1879 a 25 mile long private toll road was built from the small community of Hammond on the lower reaches of the Kaweah River into Mineral King, but it was not profitable. In 1884 the road was deeded to the County of Tulare, which also did not have funds to improve or even adequately maintain it. By 1910, however, automobile trips to scenic places in the mountains became increasingly popular, and small resorts sprang up in the Mineral King area. Construction of a new road with a bridge over the Kaweah River began in 1911 and was finished in 1913. The 1913 bridge was a redwood and cedar truss structure spanning 115 feet. It soon showed signs of sagging, and by 1923 the County had to replace the old bridge with the existing concrete arch structure. The Mineral King area, including the road and 1923 bridge are included in the Mineral King Cultural Landscape on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003 Oak Grove Bridge, an arched bridge made of reinforced concrete, is situated on Mineral King Road, which has long served as an approach road to Sequoia National Park. The modern quality of this bridge contrasts greatly with those located within the park. As part of an effort to create an aesthetic in which structures fit in with the natural environment, the National Park Service had bridges built with a rustic quality. This was achieved through the choice of building materials: Lodgepole and Clover Creek Bridges (HAER Nos. CA-140A and CA-140B) had a stone veneer over a reinforced concrete arch design, while the Marble Fork Bridge (HAER No. CA-141) had a deck-truss log design. Pumpkin Hollow Bridge 1922.

If you look at the topo maps of the area, you can see that this would have been an epic resort. Look at the photo at 7:05. The lodge/base would have been at 7900-8000', while Farewell Gap is 10,700'. The top of White Chief Bowl would have been 11,000-11,500'.

@@DavidVitrano correct you are about Disney and the Olympics. squaw valley is my home, livelyhood, family and playground. I don't think anyone there (especially at alpine meadows) wants to see Disney buy us. It was bad enough when KSL bought us. I think Disney would completely change the vibe there and lose alot of employees that they are already struggling to keep. Also to the north east is granite chief wilderness Wich is protected and next to that is the north fork association Wich is a 10,000+ acre private area. Best bet in the area may be buying out white wolf or sugar bowl, which already has a mount Disney.

Mixed feelings on this. Mineral King is very unique and frankly doesn't need to "pulsed" with a ski resort. California has numerous other ski resorts, and there are other locations in the state that our friends in Burbank could have built something like this.

Saying Sequoia had the worst air quality is misleading because at the time of Walt's announcement California's fledgling motor vehicle anti-pollution program was only a couple of years old.

These reports of Sequoia valley having the worst air quality of all National Parks is actually from a report in 2015 by the National Parks Conservation Association which gave the park an F Grade in relation to healthy air. Having a Disney Ski Resort there today would arguably only make the problem worse. - Luke

The narrator is being polite and non-controversial. The Sierra Club and the legislation that special interest group promoted is what delayed and killed any possibility of this Mineral King by Disney Ski Resort. Ronald Reagan went with the flow. As usual, Walt Disney's positive and optimistic vision and modern American architecture provided the greatest opportunity for success. It would have been a fabulous place to vacation. Many of the Disney ideas and designs have re-emerged in American and European ski resorts many decades later. His emphasis on client experience is but one.
