Agree! I'm so happy to see so many people get emotional to this trailer, especially those that are Asian. I want other people to feel the same what I (and the world) felt with Black Panther. It's long overdue but it's finally coming to fruition at the perfect time.

No offense, but Mulan won't be as nearly as revolutionary as Black Panther was. You're acting like China, Korea, Japan don't already have huge film industries that release films of all different genres. High quality, big budget, historical asian epics are nothing new. The only time Hollywood makes a black movie it's usually about slavery (not exactly empowering) or a comedy, so Black Panther was something completely different.

this seems to be based on the real story rather than the animated, which i am so much happier about as the animated movie kind of discraces the real person in the proper story her whole village knew she was taking her father's place, and her mother and father even encouraged it. She didn't only bring honor to her family, but to the entire village as well. She served for 12 years and was offered a official post in the military, but all she asked for instead was a camel to ride back to her family. Mulan was the first female warrior and captain i hope it is realistic and a proper take on things not like cartoon

I agree. But isn't that because of the character itself? If the elements of her character were not so deeply intertwined with her race, and cultural background, and she was just a normal character (e.g. Ariel), and that character was played by a minority actor, would that have as much effect on the said minority group? I doubt it. So yes, we absolutely need such characters like these, and stories like these need to be told and need to be more mainstream. Not sure if the approach of an actor from a minority group portraying neutral characters is the way to go for achieving multicultural representation.

I thought it was a pretty damn good teaser. The complaints about the possibility of no singing. Well, the new Jungle Book only had 1 song from the original. No one complained then. Making a new version but having scene for scene with the original soundtrack has been done before. It seems this is more a new take on the original animated movie. Also, keep in mind this movie is geared towards the Chinese market. I haven’t see many Chinese movies but it seems they don’t do many “musicals”. In the end, the fans of the original still can go back and watch it. This new movie won’t take that away from them.

The new Junglebook had 3 songs from the orginal actually, which I believe was all but one of the songs. The original cartoons did not have many songs. I agree that it isn't necessary to remake them all as musical necessarily, but your example is a poor one.

I don't think that's fair, I think it's fine for people to want to see the songs remastered as they have in the other adaptations. I know plenty of people who were upset to hear there were songs removed from jungle book and cinderella, there were articles everywhere about it. That shouldn't matter though, this movie had a much bigger impact than the jungle book so it makes sense we see more people disappointed. As long as people aren't protesting or boycotting the film over the songs, I see no issue with the disappointment.

I'm honestly more intrigued by this trailer than the other Disney remakes so far. It looks like it's actually trying to do it's own thing with the story (like The Jungle Book remake), rather than just being almost a shot-for-shot remake with maybe 1 or 2 new songs (like Beauty and the Beast or Aladdin were, and Lion Kings looks like it will be). The others are perfectly competently made but The Jungle Book remake worked because it felt like its own thing, so if this film is along those lines it could actually be interesting. EDIT: Apparently this version will actually take more from the original legend than the animated film, so I guess that'll help it stand out. I'm optimistic!

Thank you. Mulan is about love and devotion to family as well as her will. We don't need to turn it into a social commentary about gender stereotypes (cringe) or introduce animal sidekicks, musical numbers or other Disney tropes. I don't even want there to be a love interest. This trailer seems to do everything right. And the actress seems to have a perfect subtle balance of grace and intensity. I cried, too.

Best reaction to Mulan I've seen so far! :) Achara, you were making my eyes water as well. I totally get it. This trailer hit all the right marks, and I felt it, too. Can't quite articulate it, but I felt it. Mulan is such a great character and story. There is also feeling of inclusion and representation with this teaser that is positively felt in a powerful way to those who can relate. I see different reactions from those outside vs those inside this perspective. The latter are being moved in a deeper, more personal level. Being proud of who they are seeing on screen and having the genuine emotions erupt, it's a beautiful feeling, even if just vicariously felt. I would even go as far to say what this film is offering is important on a level that is felt without words needing to be said, which is proof of its significance. My reaction when I first watched the teaser was almost identical to Jaby. I just wanted to clap and and give a firm "yes" as approval. The teaser itself delivered everything it needed. I'm with Jaby, I'm sold already! I really like the feel this trailer had. I loved the animated movie, too, but I really like that this has a more realistic and mature feel to it (as you guys said). This was one of those films I was initially worried (but hopeful) about, but after I seen the trailer I became full on excited for this movie! Excellent choice for the actress, Yifei, as Mulan as well! Looking forward to seeing this in theaters in 2020!

Mulan is about sacrifice, duty, honour, and also breaking the mold to do the right thing, instead of just blindly following custom. It's an epic tale, but also nuanced. One of my favourite Disney movie growing up. Also idolized Liu Yi Fei growing up (even though she is slightly younger than me, she started acting when she was 16, and is a household name in Asia) . Hope they don't screw it up!

It's the small things like a gesture that might escape most moviegoers but mean the absolute world to people that belong to that culture. Being black I remember picking up on certain gestures and phrases while watching Black Panther that meant the WORLD to me. Seeing my culture up there on the big screen in a superhero movie where we weren't side characters or "supportive black friends" (looking at you CW), but main characters brought tears to my eyes. It's a cause for celebration for my asian brothers and sisters around the globe and I'm so happy for you!!! 🤗
