"Only a fifth-grade education?" The goal now is producing high school graduates who can read, write, do math and understand science and technology at the eighth-grade level. According to critics of the American K-12 educational system, an average of fifth grade proficiency among those with high school diplomas is the reality. That means many high school graduates do not read and write at a fifth-grade level.

It’s depressing to watch the Pixie Dusters constantly repeat the lie that Splash needed to be replaced because it was racist and insensitive and evil and whatever. We’re watching a microcosmic example of how easily the masses are swayed.

This is one of the best review/commentaries of this film I have ever seen. Thank you so much!!! I've long thought this movie was unfairly maligned and should be released officially by Disney.

I'm in the replay. The 1946 poster looks the way it does is because this was Walt Disney's first live action production and he was hoping to bring in a broader audience. That's why the animation was downplayed. In every rerelease the animation was punched up and the live action was downplayed.

There's a recent book about female Disney artists where the author BASHES Mary Blair because she worked on Song of the South and didn't oppose Walt.

I've seen testimonies from freed slaves online who were actually angry they were freed. That blew my mind. The narrative was they felt abandoned to fend for themselves because some of the plantation owners couldn't afford to hire them as sharecroppers. That stuff is out there.

Some of the screenwriters on Song of the South wanted to play up race and Walt shot that down. He didn't want race to be part of the story and Uncle Remus is treated as an equal by the white characters. He's not looked down on.

Some people were angry about the recent Rescue Rangers Disney+ film because it references the Bobby Driscoll story.

Song of the South is the first major film that blended live action and animation. There had been tests before this in the Latin American features Walt made but it was to make this film. Ub Iwerks was the man who figured out how to do this. He's the most important figure working with Walt.
