Disney Wish Stateroom Mistake?

The new room decor doesn't really bother me. Im just glad they kept the smaller cruise ship layout. Im NOT a fan of the mega cruise ships. Its like you're cruising in a floating mall. If i want to spend time in a mall or amusement park, there are much cheaper options closer to home. I love DCL because there's no casinos, no wild partying, and its so family friendly. There's plenty of other options if those things are important to you. But there's not many options out there like Disney.❤ .

Totally agree with you Ashley! Nautical old schoolers all the way. I’m not as excited about the Wish as I thought I’d be. I think it is mostly because of the color palette and was seems to be a princess centric design. Really look forward to being back on the Fantasy in 2022!

9 cruises on all 4 ships has helped me to learn to stay away from the mid ship elevators at all costs (unless you like drama and trauma). The Wish having only two elevator banks, not really forward or aft, is going to change things dramatically for how you get around the ship. I hope that I’m wrong, but I feel that the Wish elevator banks are going to turn into the mid ship elevator banks on the other 4 ships in the fleet (a nightmare). This would be an excellent subject matter for a future video after you sail on the Wish.

Where sailing on the Wish on her maiden voyage. I haven’t thought to much of the room changes til now. You are right about the color. I guess they want you to feel you are staying in a magical castle more then a Disney ship. Are favorite ships are the Wonder and the Magic because we like longer cruises. I’m trying not to look at the count down clock because as of today they are still 335 days before the Wish sails. But it will be nice to be able to sail again. We have booked a 5 night on the Wonder in September just to get back on the water. Thanks for your fun video.

I actually wanted to book my first Disney cruise on the Wish strictly because the aesthetics of the staterooms and the ships design is so much more beautiful and upscale in appearance. The other ships look very dated. Perhaps I guess they could have just modernized their nautical theme, however I am in love with the design on the Wish. Either way, love you channel!

I've never been on a disney cruise , but I disagree. Why should the ships look the same? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of being a unique experience? And why _shouldn't_ the ship be more disney-princess themed? I'd say it's weird that that hasn't happened until now.

Yes it will be nice to have the differentiation between the decor on the ships. For sure! However, there are a lot of disney princess decor and theming on the other ships as well.. that is why (I think) they are hyping Marvel so much on the Wish.

I totally agree! I was very disappointed that they got rid of the nautical decor in the staterooms and I think the white walls are a big mistake for a cruise line that caters to families with young children. I was overall very underwhelmed by the Disney Wish announcement and it makes me want to go on the classic ships (Magic & Wonder) even more. I'm hoping that the release of the Wish will make cruises on those ships less expensive.

I am hoping they will get less expensive as well! What you are saying with the white walls does make sense. Even the white curtain in the middle of the room will probably look dirty quick since people have to touch it daily.

Our first cruise will be in April of 2022 on the Magic, so I can't really speak to being used to what's on the other ships vs the Wish. Variety is the spice of life, however, so I would say keep an open mind and give it a shot. It will probably be a whole different experience once you get there and you might actually like it. You will love the Magic, my favourite of the fleet! If the cruise is four nights or longer, I recommend a rotation at Animator's Palate for two of those dinners. You will rotate amongst the three dining rooms, AP, Rapunzel's, and Lumiere's, do you will want to start the rotation at AP on the first night if the cruise is less than five nights so you can eat at AP twice during the rotation. There are two different "shows" at AP and both are enjoyable. The Drawn to Magic programme at AP which highlights Disney animation history is so lovely. You can make dining changes on Cruiseday after boarding. The Navigator will state where to go for dining changes and reservations. I also highly recommend brunch (not dinner) at Palo (Pah-loh, not Pal-oh!) which is a must! If you are unable to book a table for Palo brunch, keep checking! Be persistent and bring an appetite when you do go! I also recommend the chicken parmesan there. Dress code at Palo is also more casual at brunch (less to pack!), a collared shirt such as a polo-collar and jeans (not torn or ripped) is acceptable. I have always been able to book a table, often very last-minute. And don't forget the famous Disney Parks turkey legs at the late night buffet at Cabanas following the Pirate Night fireworks! And every night, check the late-night buffet nightly by the adult.only clubs. Sometimes, the food will have been prepared by the Palo chefs! Another tip, use the fizzy drink cups for the soft serve ice cream instead of the cones! Be on the lookout in the later evening, usually after 21h for Sleepwalking Goofy wandering around the decks and stateroom corridors late at night! If you are staying with a few others in the stateroom and don't want to wait, use the spa to get ready and "drop off the kids at the pool". The spa showers are much bigger and taller than in the stateroom too! Don't miss the Tangled musical. It's a wonderful production. There is also the adult only escape at Quiet Cove, and the treats at Cove Cafe are complimentary. You do not need to buy a specialty coffee or drink to enjoy the sweets there! On Castaway Cay (always pronounced KEE!), the adults only Serenity BBQ at Serenity Bay has steak on the menu. You can feed the kids first at Cookies and then bring them to the kids beach club and then head to Serenity BBQ. BTW, if it's a transatlantic crossing, about 95% of the passengers are adults! Definitely explore the children's clubs on boarding day during the open house. And if you are travelling with children, it's so very important for them to go to the children's clubs on the very first night so they can meet with their new best friends. Also, do not miss the Jack Jack Diaper Dash held in the Atrium! That is always one of the cruise highlights and I hope to see its return! If you enjoyed your cruise, get a placeholder and save on your next cruise! With all the discounts available, the transatlantic crossing on the Magic is the most affordable Disney cruise on a nightly basis!

I hear ya. I couldn't put my finger on what it was when I saw the new color palette. I love the nautical theming of the older ships. Give me red, white, (Mickey) blue and gold and my brain tells me I'm on a "Mickey Boat"! This new decor is beautiful, and someday we'll sail on it, but I'm not ready for it to be so... Different... We're getting back on the Fantasy in June after not cruising since summer 2019!

I agree. It’s missing the 1920’s-1930’s feel. It’s very bright even the Atrium. Even though it’s bright it feel cold. Silvers, golds almost like a winter palace for Elsa. Lol

Hi Ashley. My wife loves your Disney vlogs. Much fun and info! However, we disagree about the decor of the staterooms. We both absolutely LOVE the red and blue nautical decor on all the previous ships. It is totally different than any other generic monotone cruise line! But on the new Wish, my wife says she will feel like a princess on the Wish and I, her prince! It’s a beautiful new ship that just makes you sigh of relaxation. I love the traditional red/navy theme, it's absolutely nautical and I love it. I can appreciate the new pastel palette also. It has the look of Cinderella's castle from what I can see online. I will be on the wish next month, looking forward to it❤

I'll wait to see them onboard. The thing to me is I like to have differences between the ships. I don't want each ship to just be a carbon copy of the first one. Yes, some of the choices might not be for everyone, but if they prove unpopular, they'll change it up when it goes to dry dock in a few years.

Ashley This is just my opinion just like certain parts of Disney are starting To be thinned like it's not Disney I used to enjoy going to downtown Disney but they have made it look like it's something that's high end. Some of the resorts are starting to look like high end and get away from that Disney look. I feel the same thing about the ships they are getting away from the traditional look that everybody like and are making it look like it's something that they're trying to market to a more select crowd. Something more high end

Oh yes that is a great way to look at it! In fact, I just heard that one of the reasons they are keeping the reservation park system is to not have so many people in the park so it seems more quality, thus making people happy so they spend more money. My hubby and I were just talking about all of the changes and I am going to mention what you said about it being more high end. One down side to that though is that I think everything is starting to look the same :(

I've been on the Magic, Wonder and Fantasy a total of 8 cruises over 57 nights from 2001 - 2019. Everything I've seen about the Wish is pretty much "meh" to me. The stateroom décor, Marvel theming for a rotational dining restaurant, and adult pool area all appear to be a step down from the other ships. I'm glad lots of people seem to love it, but I think I'll stick to the other ships for now.

I completely disagree. The biggest letdown for me with Disney's ships where the 1980's nautical themed (lack thereof) rooms. These cheap looking rooms never fit in with the elegant art deco and art nouveau designs found throughout the rest of the ship(s). It's like you exited the Titanic and entered a 1980's sailboat. Totally not what I would expect after seeing the rest of the ship(s), nor paying the high price of sailing with Disney. The new room designs are more upscale looking and fit better with the overall new theming of the Wish.

I’m a little disappointed to see that this new class of ships is leaving the classic Art Deco/Nouveau styles behind entirely. Like, I’m the atrium, as you said, it’s too white and polished and modern. It looks like what you’d see when you walk into a department store. The Art Deco is what made me fall in love with the Disney ships. I felt like I traveled back in time, while never leaving the modern day. It’s just so grand and stylistic

@@DisneyCruisers I know! I loved the retro Hawaiian feel of the Polynesian. Its what made me want to buy DVC there. Almost like you're in that Brady Bunch episode where they go to Hawaii. Now Disney Characters and I.P. have to just be EVERYWHERE and in your face, which Disney specifically tried not to do with DCL. The Disney touches were supposed to be subtle and hard to spot, while still all around you. They even say that in the Travel Channel special they did!! 🙈

I agree. We used to hit a different restroom every time we had to go to see all the different designs. Now they changed most to black on the classics. People spend millions to make Manhattan flats look nautical and make stateroom look like Manhattan flats.

Hi Ashley! Now that you mention it - we do AGREE with you about the staterooms on the Disney Wish. We’ve watch all the promo videos about the Disney Wish and it looks amazing, but something about the staterooms seemed kind of blah. Couldn’t put my finger on it at first, but thanks to your keen eye, I think Disney did make a mistake not keeping with the traditional DCL theme and color scheme in the staterooms. Oh well, we still booked a B2B cruise on the Wish for 7-10-14 Oct next year.

A lot of the design of the Wish is disappointing. I totally agree. It looks like a value resort, especially the rooms. The nautical style is so nostalgic on the other ships. The walk up food options are too cheesy and commercial. No cabanas too. The atrium doesn’t feel nautical or too grand either. Anyway, today is a big day for Disney cruise line. The Disney Magic starts their Uk staycations, which signifies the first DCL ship to start back up! Heading in the right direction finally! Great video as always.

Can’t wait to get on the wish! I am so existed and watched so many DCL videos to prepared but unfortunately I need to wait for more than a year! I do like the modern decor on the Wish cabins. I am not a big fan of the aged decors on the old ships. I have always wanted to get on a Disney cruise but don’t like how the cabin look on the existing ships. It just feel old to me. You will FALL IN LOVE with cruising on DCL. You might even become obsessed lol. First cruises, to me, are the most magical. The new decor in the cabins will most likely make the room feel larger, which is something that the old decor definitely did not do, so that will be a great first impression for you when you board!

Dear Ashley, So good to hear from you once again. Always enjoy your posts. My husband, Dan, and I both agree with you 100 percent. The pictures we have been seeing of the cabins look like a motel and not the Disney cruise rooms we have known and loved. We prefer the Dream (only ship we have been lucky enough to sail on) decor. Just as you said, classic ship cabins feel like cruise ship rooms and not your run of the mill motel room. Perhaps they will be wonderful on the Wish. Hope so. Have you seen the information we were sent today (because we are so special, ha,ha) pertaining to the dining options other than the 3 major restaurants? The buffet is no longer called a buffet. I have not gone on any other cruise line for quite some time now, but I feel the new Wish rooms look sort of like the rooms on another cruise line (not a specific line, just generic) ie: trying to meet the competition head on. If that is true, I think it is a mistake, Disney is totally unique and should stay that way. I'm one of those "4000 miles away" people, and I really like the Magic and Fantasy. Because of that and the initial crowds and $$$ I don't see myself on the Wish for quite a while.

Hmmm, it does look like a Disney resort room. Yes, I agree. I prefer the nautical theming of the other ships. The color palettes on these new rooms are cheaper to implement and less maintenance I presume. Mo money for Disney with less creativity. As for those just clinging to the "overall" Disney experience - for Disney fans these includes the details of the decor that Disney implements not just what you have for a meal, drink and activities. It's all about the theming otherwise just take a a non-Disney cruise.

Agree with you 100%. This was a fail on DCL's part. We just went to WDW since cruises are still halted and it just didn't have the same feel as cruising and I can't wait to get back to our cruises. I will however probably stick with the Fantasy.

I agree. It would be much better if they used a more nautical themed bedding and accessories. Maybe in gold tones if not the red or blue. And why do they need to spell out Wish on the blanket. Might be a nice memento if you could stuff it in your luggage and take it home but if I’m on the Wish I don’t need a blanket to remind me. They don’t have the names of the other ships on the blankets in those rooms. All that being said, if I had a reservation on the Wish or any of the ships I would be a happy sailor. My family is thinking Christmas in WDW this year instead of a cruise. Still a little apprehensive of the cruises being locked down if a new strain of Covid rears it’s ugly head. Always good to see you. Wish I could say “but who’s counting” but not this time. 🤗

I agree, the "new look" is cheap/tawdry, and obviously cuts corners. The only improvement in the cabins is the shower door instead of a curtain. The TV might be larger, but it's less useful. The older cabinet in the staterooms had intricate carpentry details and quality construction. The new cabinets are not well built. The whole point of DCL's core design philosophy - from the hull colour, to custom lifeboat colours, to extensive art, teak (or "teak") decks - was to pay homage/nostalgia for the ocean liners that Walt loved. Where's the STORY now? Where's the HISTORY? It's like the heart and creativity at the core were scooped out and replaced with something cheap. So Chapek. They've gone to a plastic, excessively shiny, tacky, mirrored everything shopping mall look - that other cruise lines (the cheaper ones) favour. There's a reason, it's cheap. Mass produced. It is *not* a classy look to have everything mirrored, shiny, hard, plastic, blazingly white with no thoughtful details, just mass produced. All hard glaring surfaces, naked bulbs, chrome, no carpets, seats, plants or art, no welcoming, no useability, no comfort. The new restaurants - what a waste. Cheap looking chairs and an overpriced menu with no flexibility. Gimicks, not class and service. The DCL Head accidentally blurted at the Wish inauguration that she had never been on a ship before. It shows. Look at the designs of genuinely expensive/high end cruises - they all lean in to the traditional nautical/ocean liner/Cunard classic look. They have expensive luxuries like fresh flowers - not plastic flowers, genuine art - not wallpaper, quality linens - not easily bleached hospital grade towels, custom carpets, detailed mosaics, period architectural touches, crystal, history... Not plastic seats crammed into a cafeteria with chalkboards and plastic flowers. Why bother going on a cruise if all you want is the look of an overcrowded, cheap, plastic hotel? Also, the horrendous accessibility errors/gaffes on the "Wish" are inexcusable. It's SUCH a hostile, unfinished, incompetent ship for disabled folx. What makes it WORSE is the "Wish" was supposedly "inspired by" Wish kids, from Make-A-Wish. Inspired how? They removed a bank of elevators, are missing ramps and lifts (we're supposed to ignore current unusability based on a lie that *someday* it will be better...?), they made the supposedly "great" kid slide inaccessible for disabled kids, there's no place for Wish families on board like in the parks, there's no commemorative signage, no dedication photos, no info about MAW... It's obvious Disney just USED Wish families to look good... then tossed them aside. How Chapek. (We're Wish Alumni, BTW). Then there's the Wish "route", all those people going nowhere for a few days, seeing nothing new. That's not a cruise, that's just a hotel. And the lounges are so disappointing - the SW lounge was unfinished, they are crammed, crowded, and cheap. No thanks.

The new decor on the Wish doesn't bother me but yes, the nautical theming is missing. What bothers me about the Wish is that there no longer is a fully wrap-around Promenade Deck which was also a wonderful feature for the Run Disney community, there are only two sets of lifts (NCL Epic also eliminated the midship lifts leading to long queue times and yes, I use the stairs but not so easy for the grandparents or when you have small children), the featured musical is Aladdin which is my least favourite on the DCL fleet because it is severely abridged, and not impressed with the MDRs. I have no desire to book on the Wish. Unfortunately, there will be a sister ship to the Wish. The Magic still remains my favourite of the DCL fleet!

@@DisneyCruisers I forgot to mention that the Grand Staircase in the Atrium is double height! The Grand Staircase now goes up two levels on the Wish! So that's something new! I remember when there used to be twin stairs in the Atrium, and then one set was taken out during a refurbishment.

I can’t believe they chose Aladdin Becusse it’s sooooo overdone. In the parks, Broadway, for being a new ship they had so many opportunities to pick something more up to date. Aladdin seems like the easy choice

@@LatinFratGuy1 It was definitely a cheap way to get a musical production on the Disney Wish by simply moving it from another DCL ship instead of creating an adaptation of a Disney Broadway/West End style production! That is something that cost-cutting CEO Bob Paycheck would do! They could have adapted The Lion King from Broadway/West End but Disney doesn't want to pay Julie Taymor royalties for her Lion King production which is why Festival of the Lion King at Animal Kingdom is so underwhelming without her staging and costumes compared to Taymor's original stage production which is absolutely brilliant. The original 1992 Disney Aladdin animated feature was absolutely wonderful and so beloved when I was a young lad. It's just that all the subsequent Aladdin adaptations by Disney have fallen flat. Every single one. The onboard DCL Fantasy production was so disappointing that I saw it only once and that was enough. If you're a fan of the 1992 Aladdin, you must watch the original *A Whole New World* recording session with Brad Kane and Leah Salonga!

Also, looks like your daughters have grown a bit! Do they get to go on the _Wish_ with you? What about your sister and her family?

The Wish announcement just didn't seem all that exciting to me unfortunately... which sucks because I LOVE Disney cruising!I think the princess-y theme is nice but it looks like a floating Grand Floridian with a value resort feel (similar to what you said). I have a lot of the same feelings about this ship as you. It bums me out to think that the next ships on the way will most likely have this similar style. Disney cruses are very unique and special. Having the unique nautical theme gives you the experience you want to have on a cruise. I'm not paying to stay at the Grand Floridian on the water... I'm paying for a cruise. We considered switching our booked Disney Fantasy cruise for 2022 to the Disney Wish... but I just could not part with the Fantasy (its my favorite ship!) My countdown continues till our Fantasy cruise next June!

Well I guess the cabins are very different but the final opinion I will give it once I have the opportunity to go on the Disney Wish.....Now I can say something for sure, better DCL to leave the photo from Mr and Mrs Disney on a deck of a cruise that they took it ...I believe was their honeymoon(not 100% sure about this). I just think the photo is so "classy" and really make me fell I am at a Disney Cruise ship cabin....I love that photo on the cabin wall.
