I certainly prefer the prime time cafe because the waiters are just pure gold! We always ask for this one guy called Christian and he is literally the greatest human to ever live, he is just so funny and will happily sit and join us during our meal and just talk to us! He’s great.

Wow! Two of my favorite full-service restaurants at WDW. I've dined at both, at 50s Prime Time with a group of 4 and Sci Fi with a group of 9. We all enjoyed the experience & meals at both. There are differences, though. 50s feels "smaller and more home" since the design is small dining rooms, Sci-Fi is much larger appearing with all the tables in one large area. Sci-Fi is VERY dark so use your cell phone light to read the menu & eat your food. 50s is brighter, just like a brightly lit home dining room. Food and service were above average in both locations. Kudos to the staff at Sci-Fi for accommodating the dietary needs of one of our group who could not eat anything on the menu (she has food sensitivities). The head chef came to our table, discussed her needs, and prepared a special meal just for her (which she said was delicious!) We had good experiences and would return to these restaurants again.

As someone who grew up in the 50's these are two of my favorites. At 50's PrimeTime the furniture is authentic 50's, and I have seen my birthday (date *and* year) on a calendar there. I try to do Sci-Fi on every trip if only for the video and the Oreo Milkshake. The video is mostly trailers for movies so bad that it's hard to believe people actually made and watched them, but for that reason they're funny! And Oreo Milkshakes are not easy to find!

We just recently went to sci-if drive in for a date night. We shared an order of onion rings and the bbq burger meal. The food was actually good. I ate here as a kid so I didn’t know what to expect but I liked everything we ate. We also had milkshakes which were very thick but mine wasn’t very cold. I think I would have preferred to have gotten a milkshake for less off of Disney property. But considering the theming it was nice to sip a milkshake and watch what was playing. I would recommend! As always the portions are big so split your food.

I went to 50's Prime Time for my birthday lunch back in 2016. I absolutely LOVED everything there. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was fun, and I actually loved the dessert there too. I even had one of the "relatives" come sit at my table and start some small talk. Overall, I really loved that place, and I definitely want to go back on my next vacation to WDW. I also would like to try Sci-Fi due to the fact I didn't get a chance to go there previously.

Out of those two, I have only been to Sci-Fi. We had a group of 8 and they were able to sit us in cars that were close to each other. Note for people like me who have...a lot of extra skin. The seats can be tight. Remember, you are in a car and the seat and table top are fixed in place. As AJ stated, there are some tables and chairs scattered around, so if you are not able to fit, you might want to ask for that ahead of time. This is not to be mean (because I am in the same boat), but to be realistic. I am sure they can work with you if you let them know ahead of time. Yeah, you may have to wait but the ambiance more than makes up for the inconvenience.

We recently went to sci-fi - the kids loved it! It’s quite dark which is different and the serving sizes were ridiculously huge. They were also nice to let my 10 and 12 yr old order from the kids menu, but they still took their dessert to go - really the kids meal is a normal adult serving (for us aussies anyway). Food was tasty but obviously not intended to be high end - one of our favs this trip. T-Rex was the best even better than the crazy priced royal table.

I went to sci-fi dine in last time I went on a Disney trip with my family and the food was ok but my main problem is if you're "Pooh sized" those car booths are not the most comfortable. We didn't realize there were other seating options so our group just kind of squished in.

Not sure if anyone will see this comment as it's Sept. 2020, 2 years after this video was done. We have lunch ADR at 50's PTC as the menu is better for us since the parks reopened after the COVID shutdown. Looking forward to chicken noodle soup and pot roast. Yes, my grandmother had that exact dining room set but in red and chrome with red "leatherette" seat covers. Probably vinyl but it really WAS the 1960's back then. HEY! ELBOWS OFF THE TABLE BUDDY!!!

We loved the Sci Fi Dine in. We wandered in without a reservation, expecting to wait a while. In 5 minutes, they took us back and we were blown away - we had no idea what to expect. My husband said it was the best Reuben sandwich he's ever had. It was such a massive surprise; we just sat and had our meal like a couple of 10-year-olds. I guess we were in the right place at the right time. We would definitely go back. When Disney does surprises, that's where the magic really happens.

50's Prime Time is probably my favorite restaurant in Disney World. I have by no means eaten at all of them and have never been to a signature restaurant (except Be Our Guest back when it was reasonably priced, so that doesn't really count). But I absolutely LOVE the atmosphere and the way that servers mess with and harass you. I think it's so fun and cute! I've never had the vegetable issue cause I just clean my plate every time but I love the homey familial irreverence; it's great! And I really like the food especially for the price but I think I have low standards for food.

I've only been to Sci-Fi, but we had a great experience there. One of the cast members gave my daughter fresh popcorn when we checked in, as we waited for our table... when our server came over to take our order, my daughter wanted more popcorn! We've had better experiences food-wise at Sci-Fi, and my kids love the dark theater ambience. The food at 50s Primetime used to not really appeal to me, but now I could see myself trying the stuffed pork chop or the salmon entree -- just not a fan of pot roast, fried chicken, meatloaf-type foods. We have reservations for both in a couple of weeks. I have been to both and really enjoyed them. I lean towards 50's Diner because of the interaction with the servers. My husband told on me for hiding my green beans under my chicken bones. The server got everyone's attention and got on to him for being a tattle tail first. Then he focused on me and fed me green beans with my fork, all while making an air plane sound. People from other tables were recording our experience with their phones. It is one of my favorite memories from a Disney restaurant. The cast member thanked me for being a good sport.

50's Prime Time is our favorite. Not a lot on the Sci Fi menu my wife can eat. The sampler has actually been on the menu for a few years now, as that is what I get every time. Sampler might be an understated description as the portions are fairly good sized of each of the three meats. Our favorite story from Prime Time is when our server walked up and was talking to us as he partially unwrapped a straw. He leaned over and shot the paper into the next room at whoever was dining there, then popped right back into place and talked to us like nothing happened.

I had lunch at Sci Fi during my trip last summer and was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was! The atmosphere was great, our server was probably the nicest server we had during our whole trip, and over all it was such a great experience. I've also been to 50's many years ago and didn't really care for it. So between the two I'd definitely say Sci Fi is the one to go to.

Ate at 50's Prime Time two weeks ago. As a couple, we were stuck at a small two-top away from "the fun". That caused our waitress to kind of ignore us in favor of the three groups of four she was also serving. She kidded a lot with them and gave them trivia challenges to work on. With us - nada except one or two times getting our elbows off the table. I had the three-way combo plate. It was good, but not memorable. Partner had salmon, which was pretty good. We did enjoy the apple crisp with ice cream more than AJ apparently does.

I enjoy the 50's Prime Time cafe, but sometimes the cast members/servers get a little overzealous in their roles. It's fun, but it does get annoying when you're trying to eat and they keep slapping at your elbows (no elbows on the table!). One time they forced a teen girl who was clearly mortified to stand up and apologize for whatever it is she did wrong. She cried. It was pretty awkward. However, my son loved seeing me get told off for not eating my vegetables!

The only problem we find is that we usually get a 'restrained' waiter while the other tables in our 'room' end up with the mad, exhuberant one who makes jokes etc. This year the 'mad' one was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves think, and as our daughter is autistic and has sensory problems, she actually ended up in tears before she'd got halfway through her main course. She wasn't feeling too well that day, which didn't help. Give them their due, they not only boxed up her half dinner, but at the end after we had our desserts, brought us a whole box of fried chicken to take away so we could experience their chicken 'as it should be'.

I feel like people who know they have sensitve kids that cry easy, humorless adults, autistic kids who can't deal with sensory overload etc., should know better than to go to a restaurant that is clearly advertised as having that type of environment. Like, you KNOW what you're walking into before you make the reservation and you make it anyway. Then you complain about it?? That's like peole who know they have scaredy cat kids and take them on The Haunted Mansion then complain about, "my child was overwhelmed by the dark and the scary images". 😒 Stupid. Geez people you know yourself and your kids better than Disney does so if you know they wont like atmosphere of 50s PT dont go there to eat. Not rocket science.

Sci-Fi for me! The waitstaff (waitcast??) used to interact with the movies more back in the day (when one of the clips shows an actor was stabbed by a HILARIOUSLY big syringe, the cast would scream in terror), but sadly more more since I think they stopped that practice due to the kiddos. Note that I still scream myself when the 50ft man throws the syringe, and some of the cast called me "old school". The cast also took care of me when I had a dehydration issue (5 hour flight + all day at Universal drinking butterbeer means I derped myself into dehydration) by giving me all the powerade I could drink and my meal for no charge. Love the Sc-Fi!

I only went to 50s Prime Time, but it's the only restaurant I remember because it was a _blast._ The food was great, watching the servers/actors was great, and the theme was just wonderful. I think I had the meatloaf, myself. That sampler platter you showed has me salivating, though. My tip, if you're at Disney for a while and you're starting to get a bit tired of all the seriously AMAAAAAAAAAAZING food and hype and all that, if you just want to have a little break from your vacation food-wise, to have some good home cooking, then 50s Prime Time is the place to be.

Been to 50's Prime Time once and Sci-Fi Dine-In at half a dozen times. At 50's we didn't get the full spiel, but I arrived later than the rest of my group, who might have told them to tone it way down before I got there. At Sci-Fi we've always had wonderful wait service and since we don't have "fancy" palates, the food is pretty good! My only complaint about Sci-Fi is that even with an ADR, we've never had less than a 1/2 hour wait for our table and the waiting area is about the size of a compact car!! That's always fun during the daily Florida Infrastructure Wash-down, when it seems like there's 10 pounds of potatoes in a 5 pound bag!!

I have been to Sci-Fi twice and Prime Time once. The atmosphere at both is nostalgic and fun. I enjoy the movie and trailer reel that Sci Fi plays and the general look and feel of Prime time makes me want to have watched more of the "Danny Thomas Show" on Antenna TV. Food is always fine, not great, but I think that is the point. The veggies at Prime time are basic, but usually very good. Sci-fi is more of a burger and shake restaurant, and I have never had an issue in either visit. My only problem with Sci-Fi is I wish the trailer reel was not the same one for the past 20 years. At Prime Time, I was mentally prepared for the interaction, but I can see how if you are NOT prepared it could become a forgettable experience. It is not like Ed Debevic's (I have seen that comparison, but it rings false)

I've only been to Sc-Fi and I have been there 3 times. I absolutely love the atmosphere, even though the movie roll hasn't changed that I know of. I remember clips I saw in 2005 and it was probably the exact same ones I saw in 2017. I really like the burgers there. For our next trip we are definitely going to go to 50's Prime Time. Really looking forward to it!

Been to both and 50s is easily the best to me. You mention slim picking for food in the Studio's but failed to mention Mama Melrose. Certainly the best single credit restaurant in that park and Magic Kingdom. Love your videos!

Thanks for posting. You review was dead on. 50’s Cafe is one of my favorites. Sci-if is my husband’s. Because we ditched the dining plan during our last visit, we were able to enjoy both!

I know this vlog is out of date -- but we booked lunch for our day at HS in 2020 at 50's Prime Time Cafe because the Galaxy's Edge restaurant "Docking Bay 7" doesn't take dining reservations and for lunch the 50's PTC has a better menu for our lunch (chicken noodle soup and Caesar salad is fine for a lunch). Oh, and by the way, my mom-mom had a kitchen table just like the restaurant, with the red leather chairs.

I just had to go back to this video, both of the restaurants are amazing. And the waiters and waitresses are hilarious at 50s Prime Time. I went with my mom and brother once, and my brother got a lemonade, and he finished it pretty quick, so our waiter brought him another one, and my brother finished that one too, so our waiter brought back 3 more lemonades at once, and my brother finished all them, and the waiter was like what, and took him to a challenge, and he brought back a whole pitcher of lemonade😂. To the waiter’s surprise my brother finished it all😂 It was truly an amazing and funny thing to experience

AJ - we have been to both and agree that 50's Prime Time has better food & cast interaction, but Sci-Fi-Dine-In is good for giving the kids (or some of us who are old kids) a Dine-In license (artificial driver's license) - great fun and souvenir. In more recent times, you have to ask the server, but back a few years, the cards were just offered. Apparently I am older than you as I remember the 50's pretty well & recognize the furniture, B&W TVs. & real drive in theaters. We have always either eaten at both as a couple or with other adults.

My family has been to both of these restaurants multiple times, and Sci-Fi is our favorite by a landslide! (We we’re actually eating there when this video was posted! 😂)We have never thought our food was very good at 50s Prime Time (we are southern, and we feel like grandma makes the better fried chicken and meatloaf), but the service is fun. Sci-Fi has some of the best burgers we have ever had, and we love the experience! Plus, the servers have always been very similar to 50s by giving children tickets if they don’t eat their whole plate before dessert, and they even give the children drivers license.

Prime Time > Si-fi any day, everyday. Just better for all types of party sizes. With a party of 6 at si-fi, you either don't get a car, or u do get the car but can't talk to anyone because of the layout. Cute date night tho. But 50's Prime Time is just way more fun.

I love 50s Prime Time. I've never gone with children and my group never really encourages the schtick, so the service has been normal, friendly, efficient service. The food has always been good. I agree the desserts are so-so, but the entree and appetizers have always been great. One thing they used to do but was off the menu last time we went was greens. Apparently, most people don't like greens because our server offered to swap them for green beans without us saying anything--but we love greens. (And after several days at Disney, really appreciate the extra dietary fiber.) So my mom and I both asked to skip the mashed potatoes and have double greens. Our waiter was so confused.

50’s wins for us hands down. We go every trip. We do request they drop the teasing- I hate being embarrassed! We love the food. They have so many gluten free options. Neither the food nor service at Sci-Fi was good.

beautifuldancer A few places in Disney have made me sick over the years. Can’t figure out what it is. I’ve went back to those places and been fine. It’s hit and miss for me. Sci-Fi didn’t make me sick, but the service was abysmal.

A bit late but a word of advice, ALWAYS check the menus before you enter a restaurant - even one you’ve been in before. The first time I was in Sci Fi Diner I had the best chicken pasta meal of my life but I returned a couple years later and the menus had changed quite a bit! I a horribly picky eater with sensitive stomach and even the only meal I could try was basically inedible. The menu as it is now has a couple good looking things, but you always need to check! A lovely episode and next time I make it to Disney World I am *definitely* going to 50’s Prime Time! (Well, um, after checking the menu online, of course.)

I always wanted the Sci-Fi Diner to play an old Public Domain Black & White Sci-Fi Movie in it's entirety on the screen once every one or two hours, that way you can see one of the movies that it's trailer played on there, I also wanted the 50s Prime Time Cafe to play full episodes of old 50s sitcoms (like I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, the Munsters,etc...) do you think that would be good?

Only ever been to Sci-Fi Dine in. From what I hear from my family the food has been 6-8/10 for them, but I only get the burger there which has always been solid every time. Also their seasoning on the fries is excellent. *HOWEVER,* the dessert that escapes my name, vanilla scoop ice cream on top of a hot glazed donut on top of caramelized apples, absolutely THE best dessert I have had at Disney. Better than the Dole Whip. Couldn't recommend it enough. On top of all that, the theater experience is a blast. I missed the black and white TV era by a couple decades, so seeing that was pretty magical. The atmosphere is great, their free popcorn and ice while waiting is an excellent touch...the cars are awesome but I will admit a bit on the small side, specifically the tables, but still an amazing experience.
