'Ohana doesn't hold a candle to Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue. I have never had a bad meal at the Hoop-Dee-Doo, but I have at 'Ohana. Hoop-Dee-Doo is the best dinner show at WDW.

I've been to Ohana and Hoop Dee Doo once each. My experience at Ohana was so lackluster that I couldn't believe this was the place so many people talk about, and that I had refreshed the ADR page daily for trying to get a reservation. The food tasted maybe microwaved and we felt so rushed we could hardly talk and definitely couldn't enjoy the food. We were lucky enough to be there for the fireworks, which was nice. The staff was clearly frazzled. The waiter came over to our table every 10 minutes asking if we were done and he could clear plates. I felt terrible that I had hyped that meal all day. Hoop Dee Doo on the other hand was amazing! I wasn't even hungry but ended up eating quite a bit because it all tasted so good. The chicken was crispy. The bread was melt in my mouth. That show made me laugh until I cried. It was a great experience.

I've been to both. The best memories made were at Hoop-Dee Doo. If you want to eat the Polynesian Village, skip the long lines, chaos of service and go to Kona Cafe. Ohana's was forgettable to the least. Hoop-Dee Doo is way more fun, and besides who doesn't like eating out of a bucket and acting like a kid in public.

I would think Spirt of Aloha would be a better comparison than Ohana since both Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue & Spirit of Aloha are both dinner shows. Ok never mind. I hadn’t seen the entire video before I left a comment.

Pro tip for hoop de doo! I am a pescatarian so when I go I ask for their dietary menu. They have a whole menu with other options that range from salmon to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free dishes. These take a little longer but are made fresh as ordered and are rather big helpings so you can share! I usually do this and eat the side dishes brought to the table as they bring the fried chicken and everything as well

Hoop Dee Doo's vegan grilled veggie platter with sweet chili sauce and wild rice is great, and some of their other options are also vegan. I had a vegan strawberry shortcake for dessert.

We went to both of these places on our last trip to Walt Disney World a year ago. The one thing we did on our trip that my wife can’t stop talking about is the Hoop Dee Doo Review. It is going to be a must do for every trip to WDW from now on. She asked for the alternative menu and ordered what she says is the best salmon she’s ever had anywhere. And, we eat a lot of salmon. Ohana’s was another highlight of our trip. After eating there my wife decided that on our next trip to WDW we have to stay at the Polynesian.

There is also an internal bus that connects Wilderness Lodge directly to the Fort Wilderness Pioneer Hall bus stop. I don't think they advertise this a lot, but we used it extensively on our last trip while staying at Fort Wilderness.

Just went to 'Hoop-dee-doo Review' in January- for what it was worth, it was all about the experience- The show was outstanding, the food was incredible, no complaints at all about what I got for the price. It was great sitting outside Pioneer hall and just meeting other guests and sharing small talk before being 'called to dinner'. Im a big horse lover, and it was awesome to see the carraige rides outside, and pet the horses- I felt removed from the hustle and bustle of Disney for once, and though it was a bit of a stretch to get there, this experience was well worth it. Service and show wise, I didn't feel rushed, had more than enough to eat, and felt comfortable at all times- the cast really went out of it's way to include everybody in the ongoing antics! If you want a feeling for what western style entertainment was like back in the day, this is a really good representation!

Yes! This is exactly what I was going to say as well. AJ mentioned it at the end and says they don't recommend it, but my family has been to both Spirit of Aloha, and Ohana several times, the show makes it worth going and the food was pretty much the same.

Have never been to Ohana, though I'll preface this by saying Fort Wilderness has been a staple for my family whenever we visit WDW. But while Ohana clearly has better food, easier access, etc., I have to say the Hoop-Dee-Doo Review will always win in my heart. And let me explain why. Years ago, while I was still young, I had an adopted Uncle -- Paul Mast -- who was a straight-out performer/musician. He could sing, act, and play piano, and for a short time he was one of the performers at the H-D-D-Review. He played the part of Six-Bits Slocum, and it was a treat to watch him perform (especially as the "bear" in the Davey Crockett parts). Sadly, Uncle Paul passed away a few years ago, and I miss him dearly. He will always be one of the main connections I have with Disney, and especially the Hoop-Dee-Doo Review.

Another thing to consider (especially if you are on the DDP) is value. Hoop-de-Doo is two table service credits. 'Ohana is one table service credit.

I’ll be at Tambu Lounge with a Lapu Lapu and coconut bread watching this! 😍 Both places are great but too much food in one sitting for me and the show is definitely not for me because I get anxious when there is forced audience participation... so I’ll stick to the lounges.

This was our thought too. Actually, it's not really fair to compare these 2 since if looking at the Disney Dining Plan Ohana is 1 table service credit and Hoop Dee Doo is 2 credits- they are in completely different price brackets. But we get why some people would want to know which to choose if they can only choose 1 of these 2....our pick would always ber Hoop Dee Doo ;)

Don't forget that if you're at the Magic Kingdom you can get to Ohana via either monorail or boat, but you can also get to the Hoop Dee Doo Revue on a boat. Wife and I stayed at the Contemporary on our Honeymoon and I was glad I had an excuse to show her the Disney Boats that I remembered from staying at Fort Wilderness as a child. Also, it was a very much un-rushed evening of entertainment.

Although you're right about the food at 'Ohana, I think that the entertainment at Hoop-Dee-Do Review makes it a winner all by itself. I've seen it three times and once I was tagged to be in the "Davy Crocket" scene. My brothers and their wives were there. I thought they were going to laugh themselves silly. My vote goes to Hoop-Dee-Do.

When I was really young I starred in Hoop-Dee-Doo-Revue as a last minute "emergency act" something happened and they needed a covering act so they sent someone into the crowd discreetly and asked my parents if I could come up and star in the show. The thing made it even more special for me was earlier that day I was at the star wars show and I waited for two shows and didn't get picked for either one, I was of course sad and disappointed, I was being polite and they picked the kid next to me being rowdy and pushing me to the side practically. It was truly a magical moment to be up on stage and be apart of the show. It's also where I got my "first kiss", one of the actresses was supposed to pretend to kiss me but she did kiss me on the cheek and I got really flustered but I still went on with the act. It's one of my favorite memories to today.

Another option - unless the boat schedules have changed in the past year (possible) - get to the Contemporary (Cab, Minnie Van, Uber, Lyft, bus from another park, however), then take the boat from Contemporary to Ft. Wilderness. This only works back to another resort if you are taking another "private transport" back to your resort, or if MK buses are still running. (Short walk from Contemporary to MK).

hoop de doo has always been one of my favorites. (my dad says i should work in the show when i’m older) anyways, one year my mom thought we should change it up and go to ‘ohana. i was 10 at the time and my sister was about six. we both gave eachother that look that we didn’t want to go, but we were grateful and went anyways, the show couldn’t even happen because of the rain but still we left disappointed and still hungry because they didn’t have a lot of food us kids liked to eat. of course that was 5 years ago so idk how much the menu changed but we all said we would never do that again.

Went to Ohanas last week. I really really miss this Ohanas. The grilled shrimp, and grilled boneless chicken were my favorite. Now they just do chicken thighs, and the shrimp wasn't grilled, but cooked in some kind of marinade looking sauce. Was so disappointed in that. Everything else was the same though.

You will love it. Went this summer for the first time in 20 years and can't believe I never went before - it was tremendously fun. Even more surprising though ... the food was really good. We had a group of 9 there, and everyone absolutely loved their meal.

@@jcvalenti A lot of people love fancy food, but I love home foods, and fried chicken, ribs, and mashed potatoes? Right up my alley. My favorite restaurants I've tried so far has been Sci Fi Diner at Hollywood studios, Columbia Harbour House at MK, Nine Dragons at Epcot, Beaches and Cream at the Beach Club Resort, and Trails End. My least favorite has been Beauty and the Beauty castle, Prime Time at Hollywood, and Le Cellier at Epcot. So, I like simple and so I'm excited for this.

An error in this video, it is not a double internal bus to get to Pioneer Hall. Whether you park in the lot or take a taxi, it is only 1 internal bus and you can take any of the coloured routes, so just hop on the first one. Same with the return to your car at the end of dinner. It's not that difficult or time consuming.

I go to Ohana almost every time I'm at Disney, (which is usually 2 to 3 times a year) and was at both Ohana and Hoop-Dee-Do in August, and I will say that Hoop-De-Do was really great food! Actually some of the best ribs and chicken I've had on property in a long time! Ohana was badly over cooked! Both the steak and chicken were dry and hard, but was at Ohana a couple of weeks ago, and the steak and chicken were cooked almost perfectly! I don't do Hoop-Dee-Do enough to compare, but AJ is right when she says that Ohana is really a hit or miss... Sometimes cooked well, and sometimes not so good.

I have been to both. I enjoy Hoop-Dee-Doo better because it is inside (not muggy, air conditioner), I love other things offered at the campsite area (hay rides, horse rides, canoeing, boats, campfire, movies), and love the all you can drink sangria.

Pretty much no video on this site I'd disagree with more than this one. How can you assess atmosphere without mentioning the fact 'Ohana feels like you're being crammed into a military messhall after waiting in a mustering area for a half hour ? Or that they throw your food at you the second you sit down (even when you tell them you don't want to be rushed), or that they basically make it known they want you out in 30 minutes or less ? That's certainly been my last few experiences there. Also food quality wise, our last trip to Hoop Dee Doo was FAR better than any of our last few trips to 'Ohana. Given that the ONLY way you can go to Hoop De Doo is for the show - which is spectacular - I don't even really understand comparing them head to head. They are totally different creatures. I mean why not do "Disney World Throwdown - Cosmic Ray's versus Victoria & Albert's" ?

You can get Mac and Cheese side at hoop-de-dooh if you ask for it, since it’s offered at the kitchen right next door where hoop-de-doos food is made. The fried chicken is usually much better than AJ experienced, but the baked beans are awful. As she said, the cornbread and strawberry shortcake are AMAZING!

We went to both Ohana and Hoop-Dee-Doo just this Sept 2019 and the skewers we had at Ohana were so burnt we couldn't eat them. The food was terrible. The food at hoop-Dee-Doo was excellent and so was the show. We will not be going back to Ohana but we will be going back to Hoop-Dee-Doo!

Hoop-dee-doo was a bad experience. At one point they asked everyone to bang their silverware on the tables. It was the loudest sound I've ever heard -- almost painful, and I could not hear a thing when my wife shouted to me that our 5yo son needed to use the bathroom. She had to take him there herself.

We didn’t enjoy Ohana when we went this year. I don’t know what happened, we used to love it. When we went in May the food didn’t taste the same, the service wasn’t great, the lady that usually does the entertaining was not there. It’s disappointing because O’hana was always our go to restaurant. Next time we will try a different place.

"Ohana could be in contention if it was "Ohana of the past. We went over the summer and it was a one and done. We were so thoroughly unimpressed with the food, presentation, and value. Hoop Dee Do on the other hand is always great. We've been four times this year and haven't had one complaint about the food. The only difference is the cast. There's one combo that's gut bustingly funny. We had reservations for Canada for my birthday in November but I cancelled and booked Hoop Dee Do just yesterday. All I can say is.... RIBS! ALWAYS ask for more BBQ sauce because you don't know what you're missing if you don't dunk your fried chicken in it. It's a completely missed opportunity.

We dined at Ohana in April and found service very rushed. It was clear they wanted to turn tables over quickly. The shrimp and chicken did not have much flavor as it had on many previous visits. I would prefer a regular buffet with multiple choices than to return to Ohana again unless service and main courses improve. It was a old favorite for us since 1994 and was a very disappointing and forgettable experience. .

This would only be fare if it was Hoop de doo v Spirit of Aloha Dinner show as they are both 2 dining plan credits and entertainment

It's a hassle at Ft Wilderness if you're lazy. Great views through the campgrounds.

I guess since we enjoy doing different things at WDW, we never really noticed it. We have fun seeing different resorts, and looking around Fort Wilderness is great. She's right - though ... if you want to eat in 15 minutes or less, 'Ohana is definitely the better choice.

Lazy? I booked Hoop-dee-doo for dinner and we left the park with an hour to spare and took an Uber to get there. Ended up waiting over 45 minutes for the internal bus and was late for the show. Nothing to do with being lazy, the transportation sucks. I wish I had known about the boat, or that the Minnie vans went straight to the hall.

Sad I have major allergy''s and there is nothing to eat and either place for me. I feel so bad that my husband won't go because he won't eat without me. Someday since Disney is starting to change there will be a place like this that I can eat. God's blessing to you and yours

Homestead Blessings , my daughter has allergies as well. My other daughter is vegan . We talk to the chef before dinner and they make something that appeals to both 😀

I have one allergy and I got a call about a week before my trip asking me what my allergy was (it is not a typical one, so not listed in the reservation options for allergies) and offered to have the chef create special foods that I could eat. Disney is actually VERY accommodating when it comes to allergies if you talk with them ahead of time.

@@michelle1 I as well but with these places being all you care to enjoy and brought out in a bowl that touches all foods. I have severe allergy's and have ended up with me going to the hospital. I have gotten foods made for me at other Disney places but with these two I didn't think i would be able to. Thank you God bless

They do a Chip & Dale nighttime campfire event instead. You sit by the campfire and watch movies and toast marshmallows with C & D.

Honestly O’hana’s dinner has really gone downhill over the past couple years. The food is just meh now and they try to rush you in and out with little service in between. We have crossed it off our list after having gone for years. If it had been just a bad night, but it’s been a repeated experience now. Sad.

Karen Downey we always have a DVC suite with a full kitchen so we rarely do breakfast out unless it’s a character meal and since we’ve had such terrible experiences with dinner we won’t do breakfast. If you want a wonderful family style meal...Liberty Tree Tavern was great!

Disney recently revamped ALL their menus. You can now find vegan/vegetarian options (known as "plant based") that have no meat, no eggs, no dairy and no honey. From what I've been told, they are all really good, too. (I haven't tried the non-meat options, though.) I think ANY restaurant you want to visit will have great options for you! --bonus - without the meat, they are also usually cheaper than the other options!

If we can only do ohana once are we better doing breakfast for the characters or dinner ?? I am a big lilo and stitch fan but don’t want to just go for them xx

The breakfast food is typical Disney food - Mickey and Stitch waffles, eggs, sausage/bacon, fruit, etc. but it does offer pineapple bread. The real draw is the chance to meet two of the harder to find characters - Lilo and Stitch. Dinner has no characters, but some find it a better selection of food since it has more of a Polynesian feel with its meats, noodles, pot stickers, etc. You can look at the menu on the My Disney Experience for complete details. The other difference is that breakfast is cheaper than dinner since the food is less substantial.

No rating for service? In my experience, with everything else said from this video remaining true, some of the service I have received at ‘Ohana has been bad enough to still make Hoop-Dee-Doo more desirable.

For us, Hoop-De-Doo beats Ohana. HDDMR is the ONLY place I'll eat fried chicken!! Ohana seemed kind of stiff to us. Like you said, the beef was overdone. It was too dry and tasteless to enjoy. Love the show at HDDMR. Ohana's show was a lady with a ukulele - no comparison there. We will return to HDDMR!! Ohana, eh, maybe.
