Bonnie and Damon steal the show for me every time, and this time takes the cake. This scene was just HEARTWRENCHING. Both Ian and especially Kat absolutely slayed it. Between him repeatedly saying that he's never going to let Bonnie be put in that position again where she has to risk dying in order to save him, and his face as he finally climbs into that coffin (he's not happy or at peace that he's doesn't have to live without Elena anymore. Instead he nods to himself as if convincing himself he's doing the right thing, while staring at the spot where Bonnie stood earlier)... it's patently obvious that the only time he was 100% honest about his motivations for desiccating was in 7x14 at Bonnie's bedside, when there was no one conscious there to require lying to: He's desiccating because he's convinced himself that the #1 danger to Bonnie and Stefan's safety is his presence, it's actually one of the most selfless things we've ever seen him do. I mean, if it was really about missing Elena and not about keeping Bon/Stefan safe, why offer himself up immediately to Rayna to be killed, in the future timeline? That seems like the OPPOSITE of selfishly doing everything he can to force everything in his life to revolve around Elena because that's the only source of light and goodness he has ever or will ever known. Like... please. lol My absolute favorite thing about this scene though is how Bonnie is finally able to articulate her pain, rather than hiding it. And the pain that she's feeling is the result of being on the receiving end of the "Gonna sacrifice myself to protect you, no matter what you want" attitude that Bonnie has applied to others time and time again. I mean, isn't that amazing??? It's such a crucial moment for BOTH of them.

Damon didn’t want to tell Bonnie his plan because he knew Bon would talk him out of it. He knew he’d remain in hers and Stefan’s life and they keep trying to die to protect him, and he’d rather hurt them that have them die for him, because at least they’d be alive to be hurt

He didn't know that Stefan needed him actually he did that for Stefan and the writers focused on illustrating that aspect with his words to Bonnie both in the letter and visiting her in the hospital. Speaking from an elder sibling prespective, believe me it kills us to see our little ones sacrificing themselves for us and live in agony. Yeah we need support, love and respect but when it comes to getting hurt to rescue your older sibling no older sibling will want that. Damon did this one to prevent them from risking their lives saving his. Damon was willing to face Julian to help avenge his deceased nephew Jacob "Stefan's aborted son" that actually proceeded a chain of events including Rayna Cruz, the vault, Sybil, Arcadius and then facing hell fire for Stefan without even revisiting all that but he till his last conscious second refused to let Stefan die instead of him.

Kat slayeedddddddd this scene! She really is the star of this show to me, i mean how many actors/actresses have chemistry with almost every single cast members so much so that she lights up every scene. I believe even the writers are scared and are very precautious with who they pair her with just so that she dosen`t outshine the leading cast members. Paul another great actor, when he is hurt or when he cries damn he just touch i`m sure every viewer!

This is beautiful. The emotion that Kat and Ian put into this performance is outstanding. From the time that Damon decided, at Bonnie's hospital bedside in 7x14, to take himself out so that Bonnie and Stefan would not be in harm's way due to him, he has been the most selfless that he's ever been in the series. In fact, his decision to desiccate to protect his brother and Bonnie is just another example of how much he's grown this season. I love it. I love how Ian, with very little words in this scene, was able to show that Damon was also hurt by his decision but then with his little nod when Bonnie was done speaking, he resolved himself to see it through, as if to say "it's better this way--they'll be safe". Regardless of what he put in those goodbye letters (telling them what they expected to hear in an effort to keep anyone from trying to stop him, imo), anyone watching the hospital scene in 7x14 saw him come up with the plan to desiccate and his reasons were very clear. He himself said why--to keep Bonnie and Stefan from risking themselves for him.

Bonnie and Damon are the best thing to happen in the past 2 seasons. I can't believe the writers slipped on this dynamic. the way that they are ride or die for each other makes my heart soar. Bonnie is definitely the catalyst to Damon desiccating. in 7x14 Tyler plan and simple played out to Damon that Bonnie would be hurt because of him and guess what she was. he sat by her bed side and basically said she would never stop saving him and that it would cost her, her life. Damon is saving Bonnie's life without her even knowing it. I really think the writers are considering a romance between the two. You can clearly see Bonnie has feelings for Damon that goes beyond friendship.

LETS BE REAL here for a sec Damon is dessicating for Bonnie and Stefan. Specially for Bon who is a human and he cant stand the risk of losing her, so he felt the best way for him to get away with it is put himself down so she wouldnt sacrifice herself for him again. The least Damon wanted was hurt her, it was the most selfless thing he ever did. +Anna Marie Damon isn't the type to go full disclosure with his feelings. What triggered his wish to put himself out of the equation was Bonnie's refusal to let him die with Tyler. She risked her life for him AGAIN and nearly got killed. And he just can't let her risk her life, he cares too much about her to let her come to harm because of him. Yes, what Damon did is very hard, but he is doing it for Stefan and Bonnie.

+Anna Marie Who was he trying to fool when he was talking to an unconscious Bonnie? He had no one to lie to, no one to pretend to, and he said he was doing this for Bonnie and Stefan. That's what prompted the decision. What he told Ric felt a lot more like him just wallowing and indulging in the image of him everyone has. Besides, why would 'Ric deserve the truth' but Stefan and Bonnie don't when he's barely spoken to Ric and spent the whole season bonding with Stefan and Bonnie? I felt like that Ric thing was meant to set up Bonnie's reaction more than anything - to prime the audience for the way she would see it - and I'm curious to see what he wrote in his letter to Bonnie since we don't know. But who knows. At most, it's a combination of both reasons, but it DEFINITELY isn't just because he's miserable without Elena.

Stefan was marked by Raynas sword because of him. Bonnie nearly died after being attacked by Tyler. So Damon wanted to be selfless for once. A safe life without the destructive Damon Salvatore.

This scene was so heartbreaking and sad, one of the best TVD moments in a long while, well done to Kat for such an excellent performance. However, let's but this scene in it's true prospective. For once Damon was being selfless only Bonnie doesn't realise this. In the last episode (7x14) when Tylor gave him a few home truths about how his actions always harm the people he loves, and when Bonnie is hurt by Tylor, this brings it home to Damon. When he couldn't heal her and found out it was because Enzo had given her something that meant his vampire blood could not heal her. While she was unconscious in the hospital he made that speech. So Damon was now going to take himself out of the equation, so that he could no longer put Bonnie and Stefan in harms way, knowing they would die in a bid to save him, and nothing he said or did would stop them. When Bonnie informed him that Rayna could not be killed because the people she marked would die. Now the only thing left was for him to desiccate and get out of their lives. Damon in this episode told a few untruths, he revealed nothing about the real reason for desiccating because he knew that both Bonnie and Stefan would stop him, even though Stefan did think some of the stuff he stated was BS. He did leave Bonnie's letter with Stefan. One she has yet to read, and since she didn't read the letter or hear what he told her while she was unconscious, she went to Damon after finding out from Enzo that he had asked for Elena's coffin, suspecting what he was going to do, and thinking he was being selfish. When she got their and saw the two coffins she knew she was right. Therefore, Bonnie's speech to Damon was rooted in the fact that she thought he was choosing not to live out his life and friendship with her and be there for Stefan, but instead lay beside Elena until Bonnie had died of old age. This hurt her, and she saw it as a betrayal since he didn't even want to tell her to her face this is what he was going to do, by the time she knew he would be be long gone. Bonnie doesn't know the real reason, since she didn't read the letter or hear his speech.

The way Bonnie just whimpers that Damon is her best friend and that he hurt her and breaking down in tears right in front of him as he just takes it lightly is not okay and the reason why it had to be this way is laying in the coffin behind Damon. Goodness, Elena was probably turning in there as this conversation was going on. Why does Dries and Plec continue to ruin what could be right with these two dynamic characters?? If it had to be this way then Damon saving Bonnie from Kai was pointless, because no matter what the scenario is, Damon always has to choose between Elena and Bonnie and what Bonnie just went through was truly a pain worse than death.

+XxColor-My-Se4xX That's exactly why. From a writing standpoint, it is amazing what they did, from a viewing standpoint, it could suck watching it happen but in retrospect, it was kind of amazing. I mean, Bonnie brought him back from hell twice, but as he said to Ric, he was never happy without Elena. Damon has textbook depression and Elena was his sunshine. He cares about Bonnie, but he isn't just miserable, he also is constantly made to feel he is the problem in his friends lives the way Elena did in season 2, finding out that Klaus was after her. Bonnie is suffering but at the same time, Damon is too, just a lot quieter. I still don't know what Damon thinks Elena waking up will be like though; Bonnie was more the star than Elena ever was and she died for them over and over, and she suffered for them endlessly and when they wake, it will be to her final sacrifice and they will know of her years of self-loathing and every moment they look at each other will be filled with the same melancholy feeling that Damon is going through without Elena. Not to mention the fact that when Delena wake up, they will take the cure and none of their friends will ever get to see them again.

+XxColor-My-Se4xX I know that was amazing Kat Graham was amazing. I love Bonnie and Damon the way she told that it hurts so heart breaking. I remember when they use to try to kill each other. Here's the thing she would have had 3 years to get over Damon. Now that Damon awake the relationship would be different kind of like when Clark left in season 8 after jimmy's death. In season 9 Lois accidentally puts on the legion ring and as a result time travels into the future by 1 year. In that dark future kryptonian's rule the Earth and Clark has been gone for a year. Long story short Chloe and Clark meet again for the first time after his absence but because Clark left Chloe back in season 8 she no longer trusts him. If anyone ever watch season 1-10 of Smallvile they would come to realised that Chloe trust and relies on Clark and for her to say she no longer trust Clark was a site to behold. That could be Damon and Bonnie I really hope not.

That's why his letter was meant for that scene rather than this one. Damon takes Tyler's advice. No one has to take a bullet for him while he's desiccating. When Stefan's actually taking bullets.... that's when you wake Damon, otherwise it's just about Stefan's loneliness and nothing more. Had he known the armory was coming for Bonnie, Damon would've stuck around and likely killed all of them. This is Damon being the bad guy, and letting Bonnie hate him for it. But at the end of the day, he's keeping her alive. That’s why she talks about dying with Enzo by her side. Because she's wiling to take that bullet for Damon, and he's choosing for her. He will not let her take a bullet for him. Same sorta thing Stefan did in S2 when he left town with Klaus. He chose for Elena because he didn't wanna see her get hurt by Klaus. And he checked out on Damon in the process.

Gotta say you're reaching on that last part. Yes stefan tried to keep elena safe. But he went with Klaus to save Damon. He always chose Damon over his own self happiness, even if it meant losing elena. In fact in S3 he lost elena for good to Damon for that decision. But when Damon went to the prison world, he never tried to get elena back he went across the world looking for a way to bring his brother home. He lost Caroline, for his brother and in the end he lost his life for his brother.

It’s the reason he turns down Elena’s help to save him in S3, but gets upset that she wasn’t there to save him in S5. The reason he has a problem with Damon moving on with Elena in S3, but has no problem moving on with Ivy in S6. The reason he tries to desiccate Damon in S1, but gets pissed at Damon for desiccating himself in S7. Stefan wants what he wants when he wants it, and never mind what others want. That's why Enzo keeps searching while Stefan gives up. Stefan lost his life for his brother because he can't live without him. Had Damon died, Stefan would've killed himself.

You can't say he left to save elena but then immediately say he is more about himself. He left to save his brother and stayed away to save his girl. That's a hell of a sacrifice. His circumstance with Klaus in s3 is a far cry from them leaving him drowning repeatedly for months when he only took a short drive to drop off an immortal. Like I said reaching. His problem with Damon going after elena in s3 is because SHE WAS HIS GIRL! This wasn't the case in s6. I'm not even gonna touch that s1 and s7 Damon foolishness you typed. Stefan like all vamps can be selfish but these ain't it.

If he was about him, why didn't he go for elena when Damon vanished? He left not only her but all of mystic falls and traveled the world to find a way to bring him back. He even got farther than anyone and tracked down the leader of the Gemini covenant months before anyone mentioned them in the series. When he thought it was a dead end and Damon was gone for good he didn't kill himself. He tried to move on, epically failing

He was given a location of the covenant and gave up when he didn't see the house. The idiot who hid four coffins from Klaus with the help of witches couldn't put two and two together, he actually needed a teddy bear to show him the way. Had Damon actually died in front of Stefan, he would've killed himself. Instead, he goes to the bar to get his ass kicked on a regular. I wouldn't say he failed at moving on.

This was so heartbreaking and showed such growth for Bonnie as a character I'm still crying on the floor tbh. I'm not going to write a long meta on why this wasn't about elena because I don't feel like talking to the brick wall that is the Delena fandom today. If they can't see through Damon's actions that's on them, they can live in their fantasy world until it comes crashing down around them, that's fine. But I think it is definitely pretty telling that the second that this video went up, they were on it trying to bring everyone down, trying to insult Bamon shippers because of some preconceved notion that they have some kind of power over us(which is pretty Ironic since we still get screen time and Nina couldn't be further from the TVD set). Even though I disagree with his decision, Damon isn't dessicating because he cant be without sleeplena. It's to protect stefan and bonnie from themselves. Anyone saying different is an idiot and wasn't paying attention to these last two episodes. You missed all the guilt and fear he has, he doesn't want the two most important people in his life to die because of their willingness to do anything for him. Old why he doesn't realize that they all need eachother. Look at where they're at specifically bonnie without him??. He's using elena as an excuse so they let him off easy but as you can see in the defan scene earlier and this one it doesn't go down that way.

I understand where you coming from, and I love Bonnie's relationship with everyone because she's the show's "messiah," but Damon really genuinely suffers all the time emotionally. He is depressed in a chronic way, not because she's gone, but rather the opposite. He's only not depressed when he's with her. On top of that, he also has to deal with people constantly acting like he's the problem because he doesn't pretend to be a better person than he is, which makes it all the worse to live. DE is always about grand speeches that never back up what actually plays on screen Like Elena making him a better man when he still killed, murdered, and hurt people while she was in his life. How Damon reacted in the scene is up to the individual person and how they watched because no not everyone thought he was "chill" about it. Where in my post did I say he is in love with Bonnie? It's ignoring Canon to think that his only care and motive for desiccation has only to do with Elena, And not because he cares for Bonnie apart from Elena. He already choose Bonnie when he saved her over Elena and that is canon, as well as telling Elena that his trying to save her in Season 6 had nothing to do with Elena and had to do with Bonnie. So his decision to desiccate himself is the same. Why it so hard to understand and admit that Damon has other cares besides Elena. Trying to sell that he has nothing else to live for and care about besides Elena is what makes DE toxic and co dependent and unhealthy in Damon's line of thinking.

Damon isn't the type to go full disclosure with his feelings. What triggered his wish to put himself out of the equation was Bonnie's refusal to let him die with Tyler. She risked her life for him AGAIN and nearly got killed. And he just can't let her risk her life, he cares too much about her to let her come to harm because of him. Yes, what Damon did is very hard, but he is doing it for Stefan and Bonnie.

Like the two times he brought up Elena that we know of were when he explained himself to Stefan (I'm not a good brother without her) and in his letter to Ric (I'm miserable, blah, whine), but the only, only time where there was no one conscious around, no reason to lie, no reason to bend the truth, etc., he said it was for Stefan and Bonnie. No mention of Elena. No mention of misery. No mention of her making him better. Just not wanting Stefan or Bonnie to be in danger because of him. Which almost brings me to believe that he took turns making his explanations revolve around Elena because he figured it was what people expected, what people would write him off for and not argue with because there's no talking sense to that. And it's super sad. But not as sad as the DE people getting excited over the false idea that Damon chose himself over his brother and best friend - seriously, how can you claim to ship something because 'Elena changed him!' and then get vicious defending the idea that his decision was entirely selfish and about only caring about Elena? Please re-evaluate. Damon choosing to protect Bonnie and Stefan speaks way better of Elena's influence over him than him choosing to abandon his friends and family for her does. Y'all are so fake with the 'Elena makes him better!' - you don't care at all if he's better or worse and getting happy over your false (and shitty/regressive) interpretation of this scene is such hilarious proof.
