It's sad these Von Rolls are disappearing by the moment. Glad I convinced my dad a couple years back to wait an hour for the Skyride at Great Adventure.

Agreed! I just went to California's Great America and rode on their Von Roll sky ride. Enjoy them while we can! kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmGqpmyMmM6HqNE

There is a sideways chairlift also in Ticino/Switzerland on the Cardada to Cimetta leg of the journey from Locarno via Madonna del Sasso.

Switzerland has several great sky rides in different parts of the Alps!

Absolutely. I was raised in Ticino and lived in Switzerland until 1994 when I migrated here… now PS ;)

Very cool video. Some history I was not aware of. Have ridden the Disneyland one many times in my life, as well as the one at the San Diego Zoo. Have ridden the Sea world one as well, but it was not operating the last time I was there. We are lucky here in San Diego to have two systems available to ride.

Yes, indeed, San Diego has two Von Roll sky rides, both of which have great views! Thanks for watching!

Agreed, it was a great opportunity to hear all about the Skyway and other great sky rides directly from the Von Roll family. Thanks for commenting!

I found this very informative and fun. I was raised in Long Beach California and enjoyed the Skyway each time we visited Disneyland. I'm disappointed that it no longer runs but that's me showing my sensitive side as I get older. lol Thanks so much for doing this video! I did like and subscribed!

I'd heard the ADA issues were not the ride itself, buckets, etc, but the Fantasyland terminal, which would have had to go through massive (read expensive) upgrades to make the terminal ADA compliant. T-sky would have been easy to install an elevator.

That was the rumor that I heard too back in the day, which is debunked in this video by Robbie Von Roll. He spells out the true reason in the video.

As for the ADA with the Fantasyland Skyway station. The Cedar Point Von Roll Skyride built in 1962 is only accessible by stairs. ADA still can't touch it as the codes wernt thought of back when the ride was built. As for the Von Roll VR 101s, regarding wheel chairs ,they can't fit inside the cabins due to a center pole.
