My aunt used to take toddler twins (her grandkids) to Disney regularly. She's no longer with us, but I KNOW she would 100% agree with you. She would never dream of going with a plan. She never forced anything. She told me about how you can spend hours on main street with a toddler. She had entire trips to Disney where they never got past main street. She loved those kiddos dearly, and she was the one that took me to Disney growing up, so I can vouch for her way of thinking. I had the best times with her following along when I was little. When I got older, she would run around and collect faspasses for the family. Anyway, just had to say how you made me smile, Dave, because your advice echoed the refrains of my aunt who loved Disneyland and kids so much.

This goes out to all the naysayers about the Toon Town remodel and how they didn't like the new theming. The new Toon Town is exactly what Disneyland needed. A place where kids don't have to stand in lines and that they can safely explore without limits. Well done !

Flexibility with a little one is a MUST! ❤️ The first time we took our oldest son to Disneyland as a child, he LOVED just meeting characters and riding the carousel in Fantasyland. He slowly grew into more and more rides and eventually grew up to insist on proposing in Disneyland! ❤️ All our adult children LOVE Disneyland and we can’t wait for our first trip this summer with our granddaughter! 💕 The day will be time to explore with her and we’ll enjoy our time in the park at night! Disneyland is just magical for everyone - at any age! 🤗

I think if you have a Magic Key and go all the time it makes sense to just wander around. Do a few things they want, like a regular park, but don't try to Jam Pack the day and everyone has a an easy stress-free day. However, most people do not get to experience Disneyland that way. You're spending thousands of dollars and you may only do this trip once every few years, you are going to want to do as much as possible without stressing yourself out. In those cases it is best to have a plan.

This video is really helpful. I've been to Disneyland countless times throughout my life, but in March of 2024, it'll be the first time I'll be taking a kid. My boy will be 2 and a half by then, and I definitely would have been trying to plan out everything ahead of time. Letting him lead the way is a good idea to make sure he stays happy and we all have a good time 😂

I love your approach. I think a lot of parents would do themselves a lot of good by getting a very basic knowledge of developmental psychology to understand what life stages are able to understand what levels of structure. At Sophia's age, there's no point in having a plan. You can have some ideas of what will happen, but a plan? Her brain isn't ready to understand what that even is. It frustrates me to no end to see parents of very young kids act exasperated that *their* perfect magical day has been somehow ruined by the kid they claim to be there for.

For everyday we were in Disneyland, we set aside time to have our daughter run around the play area within Toontown. Letting a kid have that freedom of not being restrained for a long period of time was great! Also, Soarin' has a height requirement to where WEB Slingers doesn't.

I take my 5 year old, 3 year old, 2 year old, and soon one more often and I agree with you! Never have a plan! We just do whatever everyone wants to do in the moment! I only keep a loose plan for food because even with snacks we all get hangry fast and having an idea of where/when we might eat helps us to be able to eat quick when we need to. Only thing I didn't agree with is the tablet in the stroller, my kids love having that time in the stroller to rest and decompress, whenever they have an activity in the stroller they get way too overstimulated and cranky and we end up leaving way earlier than anticipated.

While I agree about the no plan thing, I think the one thing I always plan for is food. Otherwise my toddlers (two under age 5) will want to play and go on rides until they are hungry and grumpy. So I try to plan in breaks where we will stop to eat and calm things down a little.

My mother REFUSED to take me to Disneyland until I was 5 years old. “You wouldn’t have remembered anything” , “strollers are for fat, lazy people”, and “I would be in no mood for any tantrums, or crying”. My mother was ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! I’m now 52, and totally understand her correct decision. I remember my first Disneyland visit very well! Great memories! I just spent 3 days at Disneyland and 1 day at Universal Studios and I must say that it was exhausting. Probably since we only go once a year, we have to jam in as much as we can each day. I certainly wouldn’t want to do this on a daily basis. I can’t understand why people want to go there a couple of time each week all year long, but I guess that it’s done differently when you don’t have to jam in everything in 3 days. Even still I couldn’t make this my only go to place.

That’s interesting that all rides offer rider switch. When we were there in February the cast member at Web Slingers said there wasn’t a height requirement so we could take the baby on. But man, I wish I hadn’t taken the baby! It was way too overstimulating and loud for an 8 month old!

FreshBaked. David, Sofia. Is'nt "Gadgets Coaster" the best coaster in the park? Can I just say it's the same if you take a toddler or the wife/ partner/ girlfriend to the park. You have to let them "Run" and do what they want to do. Stand well back when you mention it's time to go home. Because they can lose their "Chill" as well! Liz told me, that you came home and slept for 2 day's. Sofia had just worn you out. Cheers, Chris Perry.
