Doc is blowing me off saying low wbc numbers mean almost nothing in Blacks because we are "different". Basically had to beg for a blood panel. Livid. Why don't they listen to us?
@InteractiveBiology Жыл бұрын
I hear you man. This can be a challenging issue. So there are two parts to my thoughts on this. Part 1 - Research does indicate that healthy black patients often have lower average white blood cell counts compared to other groups. In fact, my white blood cell count is also on the lower end of the spectrum, but I'm a pretty healthy and health-conscious guy. So there could be some truth to your lower WBC count being normal. Part 2 - Regardless of what I said in Part 1, that shouldn't prevent your doctor from responding thoroughly to your concerns, especially if you have symptoms or if your WBC count is lower than your normal range. If you have new or worsening concerns, you should be heard and follow up is important. The reality is, it's YOUR health. And if you have concerns, you need to make sure to get the help you need even if you have to see another doctor. Those are my thoughts. I hope they're helpful.

@@InteractiveBiologysadly, doctors are now using this as a blanket statement to completely shut down patients concerns and factual findings, which is dangerous. Almost a form of gaslighting aka medical racism. Similar to, all black women have a high pain threshold, which we all know is nonsense. @@yungg5703 Generally, people of color have a lower white blood count than other races (and are fine,) so that can be a factor in low wbc count. Certain medications can lower the white blood count. For me it was a part of what comes with active Lupus and medication has helped regulate that. You would probably have to talk to a hematologist for further insight. If you do have a low wbc you can be prone to infections so take care of yourself and make sure to wash your hands frequently.

@@ba8501 Thank you! Yes, I work in a hospital as well so definitely need to be cautious and careful but I just am seeking answers and you sounded similar to what I may be experiencing. How did you know you had SLE if I may ask? When did it occur? Similar symptoms?
@ba8501Ай бұрын
@@yungg5703 it took some time. I started off with stiff joints and other pains. Initially it was just diagnosed as RA but I also had the antibodies for SLE, RA and Sjogrens. Every thing was fine for few years but after a lot of stress and me making the mistake of sitting on the hot sun several times with no sunscreen (I am a person of color) I had a huge flare up and ended up in the hospital. It started with a rash on my body that progressed to my skin basically flaking off (which was very painful) rapid weight loss, nausea, cough, joint pains, dry eyes, light sensitivity, malar rash across the nose and cheeks, and I always had persistent anemia. Anyway, due to the rash ( I was very sick in bed for about 3 weeks before,) I ended up with a MRSA (or was it MSSA?) infection when the bacteria got into my blood stream from the broken skin and I got sepsis. While there, a team of doctors did a lot of tests to rule out everything and finally they came to the conclusion of Lupus. First they thought it was just Discoid Lupus but then later on, after more tests, it was diagnosed as SLE. A whole saga. It can take years to get the right diagnosis.

They look for anything that is showing mutation. Possibly ( CLL) I'm still in the monitor blood. Anemic one time. My red cells went way low. Felt so horrible. Iron deficiency anemia. I got to transfusions ( iron) and thankfully that straightened that out. So I still monitor and I've had the COVID shots and flu and covid boosters. Also got covid twice once before the vaccines and then 8 months after my shots. When I got over covid at home thankfully, I went and got my booster and flu shots at the cancer center where they monitor my blood cells. So far still doing well. Fatigue is the worst part though.

Hiii…I have a 3.5 count and the doctors have me running doing 10000 tests. Been mostly plant based diet for 10 years - its a bit scary!

@@instaclau7164 I went 80+% carnivore, and its working. Heals the gut. No more vegetables, especially raw. No nuts, seeds, seed oil, starch. Also, oil of oregano is killing off, what I'm 99% sure of, is mold toxticity. I also have candida overgrowth.

Hi, I don't give medical advice on this channel. That's the kind of thing you need to speak to a medical professional about because each situation is unique.
