This week I headed up to another one of Minnesota's remote dispersed campsites. I had a great Father's Day and a wonderful three-day weekend. I caught fish, went on a bike ride, cooked in the Dutch oven. This was the perfect weekend. The video ran a little longer than usual because of the extra day to shoot video. I wish I could make three-day camping videos every week! Thanks for following along on the adventure.

You know what I really like about Ken's channel? Authenticity I mean, how many outdoor and travel channel's have you seen that got popular and then all of the sudden our hosts starts talkin like Troy McClure from The Simpsons? I have a good amount of faith that Kenny, even if he gets KZbin popular, will still stay true to who he is. I do not pay money to KZbinrs, but folks like Kenny always get my subscription and the thumbs up.

@KennyOfAllTrades

It is so cool to have you acknowledge the effort.There was so much editing in this video. 99.9% of it was done with one Gopro camera. Just the short bike ride took hours to capture. It was 3 separate rides in order to film one clip. 1st, a chest mount, then back to the camper to switch over to a tripod hand held, then back to the camper to get the drone. Filming the cooking portions, I probably look like a chicken with its head cut off, running around trying g to capture all the different angles. I had around 30 hours into editing on this one. Working a full-time job, plus having a weekly travel channel, can be a struggle. I'm glad you recognize the effort.

No I haven't. I've been making these kinds of little trips since I was a kid and don't recall anyone messing with me. I've had stuff happen, like domestics ibreaking out in the Walmart parking lot overnight, or having a crabby state worker yell at me for overnighting in a parking lot that was listed on the internet as "overnight parking". Once I get deep in the woods, I don't usually have issues. When I'm close to town is when I have issues. But no one has ever messed with me.

Cast iron pizza is so easy. One only needs to know that you make it like a Cornish pasty/New York-ese folding pizza/Italian Calzone. Half way through fold the pizza in half, and bake both sides .... Lift out and hold the crimped crescent-shaped dough portion in both hands, and all the pizza and cheesy goos are held inside the crunching region. Eeezy Peezy.

It was just a little hazy last weekend. It wasn't bad at all. It all depends on the winds. Last week it got bad. I kept getting bloody noses. The air quality was considered extremely hazardous. Here's what I think is weird....there are forest fires burning... but it smells like a house fire. It's thick, smells like burning plastic, and leaves a film in your nose and mouth. It's not like a campfire, that's for sure.

I’m 64 now and have started solo camping since spring of 2022. I’ve camped all my life since I was 8 yrs old. Didn’t really take my kids too much, Which I regret. When we did go it was mostly me doing everything and not husband #1 or #2😂😂😂which is why we stopped going. And why I’m solo.😂😂😂I’ve even slept in a bed in my car! Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina….plan on doing more but not in the 20’s.

It is awesome that you also enjoy going solo. I've had a few people voice concerns with not taking their partners. But once a person sees how relaxing not having to entertain another person who doesn't love the outdoors as much as they do, they realize how much more enjoyable solo camping and road tripping can be. And don't get me wrong, I love taking my girlfriend out when she is able to tag along. And she also enjoys the travels. But there's something about being completely alone in the middle of nowhere, no conversations, no distractions, that is what makes me happy. I don't think I'd be willing to do that long-term. But escaping civilization on the weekends keeps me sane. I'm sure after 3 or 4 months of isolation, I'd be ready to go back home......maybe...

@KennyOfAllTrades

This is the radio for you! It's a UV-5 Boafeng radio of Amazon. It is cheap as they come. You can send and receive on multiple bands, including FRS GMRS and HAM. However, one does require the appropriate licenses to broadcate on HMRS and HAM. You can use it as a scanner to monitor some police and fire. Most public utilities use the frequencies this radio receives. It also picks up AM and FM bands. If you want to learn more about this radio, check out the channel "Not a Rubicon" he has a ton of information on these radios.

Yes. I have a Hi-boost. It does work well. But here's the thing, it only works if there is a signal in the area. So, when I'm out camping at a spot that has one bar of service, maybe it's even bouncing in and out of service. That is when the cell booster shines. But if there is no service available, then there is nothing to boost. From my research, the two best names my research found were Hi-boost and weboost. I did a complete video on my installation. @@KennyOfAllTrades then you do my shellacing - and you will never have to wash, scrub, sand blast or anything else. Once shellaced - eternally shellaced. Not ceramic (chips) or porcelain (cracks) - but pure shellacing that gets right down into the pores and further hardens the cast iron with mini-steel crystals - with the carbonized salad dressing (oily, gooey). 16 layers makes a super shiny, super smooth, eggs don't stick no issues with tomato sauce. Use and wipe out - with dry or wet towel - done ! Hang and dry out.

I agree. In Itasca County, there are over 1200 lakes. Only 10 boat landings have these single sites. And half of them are walk in tent sites only. You would think there would be more.

If you fogged a campsite like that here in California, you would go to prison. But its cool! The Sierra mountains here. A lot of places I love are is still closed now due to the extreme snowpack. But as that snow melts, the mosquitos hatch.
@KennyOfAllTrades
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
Is it because of the product used? I know some people are more sensitive to repellents, sprays, or anything not natural. I'm totally cool with that, and i wouldn't fog in a regular campsite out of respect for others. But I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I still microwave plastic bowels and have my mom blow cigarette smoke in my ear when I have an ear infection. It's all good. The great thing about this world is we can, and should all be a little different. That keeps things interesting.

✨ Hey Kenny.... Joined your channel abt. a month ago. Really enjoy your videos ! That was a bummer about the cheesy bread! I could tell you was really bummed about it ! So sorry my friend. But if you don't mind, one thing I do know about baking, not cooking....two totally different things as far as timing goes. The cheesy bread is considered baking and that requires precise timing. We're as just cooking doesn't as much. I would say that the cheesy bread requires you to check it abt. evey 5 minutes. Because it's hard to guage the temperature in that cast iron oven with coals both on top and bottom. As far as just cooking something, most things you have more leeway with temperature range's and time. Which means that it's harder to burn if cooking as opposed to baking. So don't feel bad Kenny because baking over a campfire is a lot harder to do as opposed to just cooking over a campfire fire. It's just that you really have to keep an eagle eye on it when it comes to bakeing say any kind of doe for cakes or breads. But don't be discouraged. But maybe try it again at home (cheesy bread) but in the oven where you have more control with temperature and timing. And not distracted like I think you maybe said you was doing something while waiting for it to bake. Not cook ! 😆 It's all good brother ! Keep the nice camping vid's coming bud ! 👍🌴
@KennyOfAllTrades

You are 100% right on the difference between cooking and baking! I think of myself as ok with a smoker or grill. I'm a fairly average cook. But as a baker......well....thats a whole different level. The good news is that it smelled amazing!!! It reminded me of going to Pizzia Hut as a kid with my "Book It" certificate. It is funny how a smell can bring back a memory. Thanks for following along with me.

Mandi is my girlfriend of 10 years. She has been along on a few adventures. We don't live together and work opposite schedules. That's a big reason i travel alone so often. @KennyOfAllTrades
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
Lol, Nope. My first job was hand picking weeds from a bean field. It was a few miles long. We would stack up about 8 wide and start walking. By lunchtime, we could make it to one end of the field, turn around, and walk back just in time to go home. I hated that job! My back would hurt so bad. That was how I spent my summer when I was 13 and 14. The following year, we were replaced by workers from down south. Those guys could MOVE! They were incredibly fast and showed us young kids up.

how do you find all these great places to camp?
@KennyOfAllTrades
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
It's taken me years to find these spots. I put on 40k miles last year just on weekend trips. In the beginning of the channel, I show more of the journey locating these spots, but too many people complained that I was driving too much. So now I focus on the campsite. You have to be willing to not find a apot too. Last week, I got off work Friday night and spent over 7 hours looking for a campsite. Finally, at 1 a.m., I called Walmart home for the night.
