Laura is 100% right. I went to from 1/4, straight into 1/1 scale (see my profile picture). While fulfilling, it was impossibly to display it all (MUCH harder than smaller pieces). So lots went into storage, and then eventually sold off when some hard times hit. That is the fate of the collectors journey.

I've reached the point in my collect too where I have a ton of stuff but need a mature or professional way to show off my trophies. I sometimes feel lost in my collection and your vidz are a ray of light in a sea of plastic. Please keep doing videos with these type of next level collecting topics!! Thank you, keep em coming!

Despite the fact these episodes have made me feel bad about my crowded detolfs, I've still enjoyed the conversations. Your wife had some very insightful comments about the addiction/collection process. I try to make sure I never complete a collection because it stops me for looking for something new and I can flip back to add some more stuff when I get bored of whatever is my main focus. It's that 'I'll just get one as a showcase item' that somehow accelerates into 'but I only need 2 more to complete it' :D. I've got a suggestion for a future topic, 'Have you made plans for what happens to the collection when you die?' None of us are getting any younger, it's something I've thought about more often as I get closer to Kup than Hotrod ;)

What's really cool Bobby is that for much of your collecting career, you've been online, and we've all been on this journey with you. I think you had me somewhere around "I'm taking an Ollie"... and it's been a great ride ever since. As somebody who fell down the 1/4 scale hole within the last 6 months, I can tell you it gets expensive fast... it often starts with Sideshow 1/4 Premium Format at $500, but pretty soon you're looking at XM 1/4 around $900, and then pretty soon you're thinking, "well, I can do just one 1/3 scale prime 1..." (which I recently did, with the Knightfall Batman), and that pops your $1000 cherry and it just escalates from there. Be prepared brother. I think you hit the nail on the head though, with quarter scale and above you really do get more choosy about who matters to you. Every quarter scale display is pretty unique because nobody does all of them - it's really more about you at that scale, and that is pretty dang personalized and cool. Good luck in your quest, and start the reviews with that Premium Format Batman in the study, my man!

No offense, Bobby, but I also think 1/4 scale is a very bad idea. It's your money, but I think it is a huge mistake. While small scale like 3.75 inch figures are hard to display, the really large ones are as well. They will eat up space so fast, you won't know what hit you until it's too late. 1/6 is perhaps the maximum. I personally prefer to stick with 1/12 scale or MP scale as the maximum size. You get sizable pieces that are also not too unwieldy to display and you can space them out to look presentable while still being able to amass a decent amount without over-crowding. This is exponentially harder with 1/4 scale. And it's spacial, not "spacio". I've done some interior design, so I can't help myself. lol.

This (along with part 1) was a really interesting conversation and gave me a lot of food for thought regarding my display (and hoarding) habits! Also, and I know it's none of my business, but since it was brought up I don't recommend going 1/4 scale. It's just too much, both money and space. These things always get out of hand. This coming from a guy who already has a preorder in for MP44...

Fuck yes! 😁 My Terminator collection in his favs at 14:37. Thx, Bobby. 😍 Love the "Fo(u)r Dummies". Works so well and my 2 cents on 1/4: It's your collection. If you wanna do it, you'll find a way. But spacing, from what I've seen of your space, could be tricky. Nevertheless: Looking forward to the next episode. 😊✌

I still think if you can have your whole collection displayed, you succeeded. No matter how cluttered. No matter how cheap the shelving. Personally I can’t reconcile spending anymore than the bare minimum on shelves. Every dollar spent on shelving is a dollar not spent on the collection. I have simple Home Depot particle board shelves bolted to the wall. Not one person who has seen my collection has ever said “those are cheap looking shelves.” As for 3.75; all my Star Wars 3.75 (save for a few dioramas) are displayed carded. I love the MOC look. It’s like being a kid in toys r us again every time I stare at my collection.

Robert D's personal utopia would to have tiny custom detolfs to display the Mechfan Toys line. The detolfs would have to be small enough so that every MFT figure looked like Omega or Constructor crammed into a regular sized detolf. This is Robert's end game much like 1/4 scale statues are Bobby's....... Great show guys, these "3 Dummies and 1 Wise Voice of Reason" videos are the best......

Great discussion. Bobby congrats on the Evil-Lyn. I have her as well displayed with my Pop Culture Shock Battle Cat. And those 2 are it for my 80's era He-man. Next to them, I have Sideshow Baroness, Sideshow Storm Shadow, Pop Culture Shock Lion-O, and a Vinyl Toynami Go-Lion Voltron. I wanted this scale to represent the 80's era cartoons I grew up with. With scale, we all have to draw a line somewhere, for me, due to spacio XM, Prime 1, Legendary Scale is out of the question. Save your best 3.75" figures for the Jabba's Sail Barge. And if the end all be all must be the Han in Carbonite... I think you already made your mind up on that lol. Madness, as you know, is a lot like gravity, all it takes is a little push.

This is funny because I moved to a teeny-tiny place a few months back. Very little space with pre-shelved closets for leagues; so unfortunately that's where my collection resides. I originally had dark wood curio cabinets with sliding glass doors, but they're just too large and heavy to move into this place. My point is I'm always having to rethink display options based on my surroundings.

Growing up my cousin had his jetfire displayed on a top shelf and I thought that was the coolest thing. So when I got mp-1 I put him on my shelf as "decoration". Then I picked up ft snarl and I put him on my shelf, the top is right at eye level, when I set him down and saw the die cast feet plant into place I got chills. I like what the guy said, "you remember them in scenes not really armies." And that's how I display my TF collection on scenes. Every so often I'll change it up and rotate characters in or out. This is why I care how the back cleans up. Cause if I want a head on look of prime punching megatron, megatron's back has to look presentable. Doesn't have to be perfect but presentable.

Is never a problem with enough detolfs! I understand the dilemma with the glass void with some of the smaller figures, but I feel spreading the larger characters among the cabinets eliminates that feeling for me. Tbh, and don t let your wife read it, cos u ll be hearing it till your deathbed😉: but i think she s right. Yes, i said it: she - is - right: there is no end. I remember thinking "yeh it s a high price, but i just need this ONE masterpiece soundwave for my desk." then it converted to classic decepticon badguys and then everything masterpiece. Now, i ve tumbled into the hot toys rabbithole aswell with: "if only i had this deadpool, i would be satisfied, just look at that detail of the gun! It comes out and shows a bullit, i NEED that". After you're done with the characters, 1/4th scale, lighting and shelves will be a thing like u say, after that you will probabely swap out pieces for even more poseable ultra-masterpiece pieces, like a transformable flame toys or something. The hole will never be full, especially as you have such a cool social circle also in the collecting hobby. It s the best never ending addiction 😁

The problem is that when you think you are close to complete your collection, someone comes with a new figure that you don't have and you thought you will never get, or it has an improvement to an existing one and you think the new will fit better with your other figures... So the sky is the limit for creativity and greed, but the wallet is the limit of the average collector. :)

.....hmm. Maybe I should have sent pics of my TF collection. As not one picture or comment was made about "action/battle" type displays on large wall mounted shelves using an entire collection.. an I am talkin MP here, not legends! But I am prob a bit of an oddity, as my collection runs around a single set of deep custom shelves that run around the entire top of my bedroom. I have decepticons and autobots on each side doing various personality/character accurate things with custom display elements, and as you get closer to the middle where each side is together it becomes a battle/war display with them in action, posed and displayed that way. Does no one else do that but me??

But, they refuse to spend any money on their display shelves or units. I never understood that... You can literally spend $25.00 to $40.00 on some very nice Floating shelves... Or less than a $100-$200 on some nice wall units. Less than most pieces they own, and they don't do it? It makes no sense.
