CPU HACK: I bought the same Razer Blade 15 model a couple of months ago and had same CPU problems with Ableton. I adjusted CPU power plan and now it’s super quick, I never go above 10% CPU even with tens of channels. Go to: Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings. Scroll to Processor Power Management and increase Minimum Processor State to 90 or 100%. I think it’s placed at 10% by default (to claim better battery life). Love the channel Geezer! Reid you really should consider a custom built computer (not one of those flashy ones, but you can get a great case designed with low noise as a priority and adjust the case fans to lower rpm's to decrease noise even further to the point where you could have a PC that will last for years to come) to me the longevity is the greatest part of building a computer. You can also tailor the storage solution to your exact needs so you never run into those omnisphere,serum, vst loading problems. I would have told you that a laptop is not the best choice for a productivity PC however you can still build a PC that is portable, quiet, powerful for years, and snappy for well under 1600 for the PC itself.
@ReidStefanMusic5 жыл бұрын
Nickolas B I’m curious, did you watch the video before commenting????? As I said, Custom built PCs are NOT RELIABLE for recording engineers who need GUARANTEED tested/approved compatibility with pro audio equipment like UAD Apollo interfaces. Custom built PCs are SCIENCE PROJECTS for people who have extra time to waste... I don’t have time to play with computer parts, most music professionals also don’t have time to play with computer parts. Therefore I only recommend tested/compatible devices like Apple, HP, or Razer even tho they cost $1000 more than “science project” computers
@nickolasb36425 жыл бұрын
@@ReidStefanMusic Yah I watch almost all of your vids all the way through(I use raw hits 2 for 80% drums on 90% of my beats, dope kit btw) I listened to the part about compatibility but doesn't UAD gear support any windows system. I woudn't call them science project's either they're actually quite reliable the most common part that would fail on a "custom pc" would be a water cooling system for the cpu but I would NOT recommend a water cooler anyway for almost any pc as you have to replace about ever 2 years. I understand the aspect of not having to worry ever cause you can take it to the apple store etc but If I were you I would at least consider buying the low storage option of the PC you want, and upgrade your storage to something like the Samsung 970 Pro for booting, FL Studio, VST's, Ableton, Sounds, etc because it will noticeably make your in-DAW experience snappier. I appreciate your reply Reid! #runningandduckingthesehoes

@@nickolasb3642 i think Reid just has bad experiences with windows laptops. Custom built pcs are the polar opposite of most windows laptops. @keveszatmari98314 жыл бұрын
@@dannyboycinco I've been there mate. The truth about windows is that you really have to tweak some settings till you make audio work the way you want. Especially with laptops. Ableton has a whole article about optimising windows for music production, I recommend reading it. Fans are loud, but for me it's not overheating. Try to clean the dust out and apply new thermal paste on the CPU heat sink. Always use your laptop plugged in to avoid performance issues.

@@drugaruka There will be a new Mac Pro in the Future! There are rumors that it will be more upgradeable too.
@drugaruka5 жыл бұрын
Royalclass09 I sure do hope so. Upgradeability wise, I’m not so concerned, I’ve had the 2011 mbp since day 1, it has served me well for 8 years, I’m only upgrading due to it not being able to handle newer programs and it is a 2.3 i5 :)

Hey Reid, how are you getting zero to low latency when recording with your setup? Are you just using regular pro tools (not HD) and relying upon your Mac Pro’s processing speed as well as your Apollo interface? Thank you!
@ReidStefanMusic5 жыл бұрын
Ryan Hartnett Apollo interfaces give you latency free inputs at all times. I mute my mic in my daw when recording because my interface is already sending it to my headphones latency free using the Console App
@RyanpcHartnett5 жыл бұрын
Reid Stefan I see, so are you adding compression, reverb, and delay in the UAD console so that the vocalist can hear those while performing and then there’s no processing going on inside pro tools?
@ReidStefanMusic5 жыл бұрын
@@RyanpcHartnett i do all this while i have my pro tools template open which is loaded with all the various plugins needed to make a finished mix. That way when i play back my recordings they go thru my pro tools template but when i record the singer hears my latency free UAD Console chain on their voice in the headphones.

Also Reid: For some reason ableton never even used 20% of the CPU, but it stilled cracked and glitches hard in ableton (showed 120% there) . I fixed this by always setting the processor state to 100% manually. This saved everything for me. Before I was able to load 2 Serum, now I can load 20. i.imgur.com/KvslRSZ.png

Marten - thank you so much for this!!! I divorced Apple not too long ago after 10 years because of their recent fuckery and complete FU attitude towards their customers - Charging customers for their manufacturing/design faults is utter bullshit! I purchased 4 new apple products and within a few months they ALL developed hardware faults. I had a 2016 MBP that had 6 hardware faults alone, I finally got a replacement - a 2017 ChinaBook Pro - that lasted 2 months and an entirely new HW fault popped up. Long story short, I finally got a full refund and started the process of leaving them. I then purchased an AMD Threadripper system which is an absolute beast but Ableton was not running so well, CPU would idle at 20% and 4/5 instances of Serum would bring it to it's knees and the glitches would start, even with the highest buffer settings. This has solved my issues, it is now idling at 2% and currently with 26 tracks of midi/VST's it's around 30% - thank you, thank you, thank you!

@keveszatmari98314 жыл бұрын
Heard it still has some DPC latency issues. Do some research or buy the XPS 15 9550, I own it and it performs good in Pro Tools and Ableton. Although the fans are super loud compared to my 2013 MacBook Pro 13". Always use it plugged in though, I experienced some performance issues if it's on battery or 60W thunderbolt 3 supply. Those issues caused plugins load slower, Serum crashed any DAW.
