Lovely review, loved the "Grim beard! DRUNGEON CHILL!" bit, but I do gotta disagree on the acting bit - I think they knocked it outta the park for what they had. The self-absorbed president, the dutiful big bro, the outrageously cocky protagonist and his rival, all super fun and acted well, even if the writing's sometimes a bit, uh...not too great. Their sets are pure 90s, though. The power ranger-ass armor, the BIG NUTS and drawers, the teleporter that's just a plastic ring chucked on the floor, I love it. I'm definitely gonna throw this onto my list of stuff to play! It sounds and looks genuinely fun. Edit: 37:12 Hey that's me! Neat. I think that this game's very specific mood is part of what people who complain about Modern Writing miss. There's no winking irony, no insecure little fourth wall breaking asides to the camera. Disruptor is completely sincerely corny and straightforward. Your character is a proud and capable young man who wants to prove himself. Your buddies are full of affectionate ribbing and teasing but still care about you. The only woman is attractive, reasonable and supportive. The villain is a vile, tyrannical traitor. You can see how Insomniac returned to the sci-fi setting with Ratchet And Clank, and despite having more child friendly cartoony visuals it has a lot more cynicism and satire than Disruptor did, at a time when that kind of writing was refreshing and bold. People just miss self-assured blunt confidence in story telling. Cheesy acting and all.

@@Trevelyan2 Hey, don't act like you've never wanted to singlehandedly crush a tyrant to save mankind and have a woman immediately make out with you while you fondle your one glowing ball. At least they had her state that elections had been held, which implies that enough time has passed for a relationship to blossom between the two off screen. Its comically unearned, but its a lean game. As in you need to be drinking lean to think its profound. hah goddem

Fantastic review and format! I don't remember when or why I subscribed to you, but your layout, vocal style, and thoughts make me wonder why you haven't captured a bigger audience as of yet. I had zero prior knowledge of this game and it was great to basically get a full FMV walkthrough and simultaneously relive the insanity of mid-90's CD gaming alongside an exploration of the game's genre innovations and design failures. I'm legitimately tempted to fire this up (along with Codename Tenka, also unknown to me) to see how my thoughts compare. I'm also impressed that at no point did you mention the incredibly POWERFUL chins on display, which seem to be an early FMV requirement for actor selection. Looking forward to your next review!

Insomniac's quality and attention to detail is undeniable even in their first attempt which didn't cash in. I remember to see this game in the video game magazine in the 90s and the review praised it for it's excellent design and gameplay. I wish to see Insomniac returning to FPS like they did with the Resistance series or how they began with this one. This studio is so good that it transforms everything it touches into pure quality and excellence. Thx for the review!

To be fair, the psx came out with no dual analog controls, then later had a dual controller that was only compatible with select games. The only console before it, that had an analog stick on it's original releases controller was the N64. The only game that had dual analog capabilities before it, was Goldeneye, if you plugged in two controllers and selected the control scheme. It was new territory altogether. Hexen was A solid port. If you change the game perspective, Forsaken(Decent's predecessor)is almost like A floaty first person shooter. Oh, and Baroque, but that was Japan only, and not solid in controls, but I love the Wii/PS2 version. Super hard though. Anywho...Analog...very much changed the game when it came to Fps....games. Took them a bit to get the kinks worked out in the default control layout, and ability for us to change them in the options, though. Used to be that every game was inverted as well. Then the option finally started showing up in most games. Then, it was made as A secondary option for most games after that. Crazy how things change.
